- I'm not sure if I’m entirely happy with how this turned out. It seems sloppy and sucky so I’m just gonna chuck it into the world and make a run for it.
Not even sure what I wanted to do with this edit but I'm a sucker for parallels, so this edit was more like a parallel scavenger hunt for me I think??
This also isn’t a shipping edit, just FYI, but feel free to view it in however you like :)
I’ve been kind of obsessed with their dynamic because I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. Their past and reasons for being close is never explained at all, it’s only subtly hinted at. And you’d expect that the last person in the household to give Viktor the time of day when they were kids would be Five, or at least I would assume since he has such this hefty superiority complex. His whole personality and his actions towards others just make you think that he wouldn’t be the person that he'd be Viktor’s bestie, but for some reason, he was. Even became a confidante to him. It is just perplexing. I just love their sibling dynamic because it's unexpected and I find it very sweet.
Few things I want to point out:
1. I find it kind of funny that the apocalypse revolves around them pretty much, Viktor being the cause and Five being the one trying to stop it constantly. Not that there’s anything to laugh at, it’s just ironic since they have a close connection, that Five has some sort of soft spot for the cause of the apocalypse he was stuck in for 45 years, and somehow doesn’t hold any resentment against him because of it.
2. They both have similar traumas and loneliness that derives from their trauma. Viktor’s cage was a soundproof vault. Five’s cage was an apocalypse. I’ve been kind of waiting for them to bond over their loneliness or at least mention it. Hopefully, they touch on it in season 3.
3. Also, think it's dope that their powers are visually similar in terms of color and how it radiates off of them in waves. It’s cool.

Vanya will always be the bomb, and Five will always have to witness her aftermath. It's a beautiful tragedy between these two. Two sides of the same coin of chaos and death.

I really love these parallels! Their fates are so intrinsically tied to the apocalypse, and they both were initially so isolated from the rest of the group.
I agree that it's weird to think that young, hot-headed Five would spend much time with 'timid little Vanya'. I think it may be because Vanya was 'ordinary' so he never felt threatened by her. Reginald's toxic comparison of all the kids' abilities could have driven him apart from the others. Maybe he related to Vanya being held back from missions just like Hargreeves was holding him back from trying to time-travel, or maybe he just knew from Day 1 that Vanya was the best listener in the group and he could always rant about his problems to her.
I can't wait to learn more about them in future seasons.
I'd also love to explore the parallels between Luther and Five. Both of them were physically isolated from the rest of humanity for a considerable amount of time, and they came out of that experience very differently. Luther clung to his daddy issues while Five grew up pretty fast, which is funny considering how both of them look right now. I guess I've been thinking about their dynamic a lot since I found out about the comic spoilers below.

Completely agree with what you said in the description, their relationship is the most wholesome in the show (in a sibling way ofc), they were both alone in their own ways and when he came back they both had someone to talk to and bond with again.

Unfortunately in the comics they don't have scenes. And the situation is very different from the Netflix version. Little spoiler: Five doesn't like Vanya.

Aidan revealed that they had a crush on each other as kids, five still has a soft side for her in s 2 where she doesn't remember anything
