- After seeing an edited video of the 2002 game between Italy and South Korea (which I believe is still under investigation) I thought I'd make my own version. This one includes all situation that may require the ref to interfere. It is however only the images from the broadcast so a lot of situations may not be perfectly clear. Did the ref take a bribe?

Was the game fixed? Give each situation a score. For correct rulings do nothing (ie. a penalizing situation occurred and a penalty was given or no whistle-worthy event occurred and nothing happened). If you disagree in a situation give the team that gain an advantage a point for each degree of advantage. If no free kick is given to Italy in a situation that deserves one, award South Korea one point. If a simple free kick is given to South Korea when the Italian player really deserved a red card give Italy two points. If an undeserved free kick is awarded at an extra advantageous position or time award an extra point. In a hypothetical extreme situation where a player from team A makes an offense that deserves a red card but instead receives a free kick at a very dangerous position and the opposing team B gets a player sent off give team A a maximum of 7 points. Tally up and let me know how you think the first half turned out.

This game had bad refereeing but was nowhere near the Korea-Spain match. You could even say the Italians underperformed and got smothered despite the bad calls. Spain on the other hand made them look like babies and still somehow got 3 goals disallowed for no real reason.
Moreno did a better job not letting Italy to reach the score because he knew that to prevent scoring it's better than having to cancel 3 or more goals.

There are a lot of fouls in this game.
In World Cup 2018, South Korea played 3 matches and received ten yellow cards. This was the second largest number of bookings received by any team in the group stages in that tournament. Only Panama were booked more (11 yellow cards). I guess football is war for them.

The facts that 90% of people miss.
1. Italy's radical plays.
3 foul(at least) that hit the face using the elbow, 6 dangerous deep tackles, but there were too many fouls that did not receive cards properly.
2. Totti's Hollywood Action Yellow Card.
At that time, controversy arose in the football community over the Hollywood action, so FIFA's guidelines ahead of the 2002 World Cup recommended strict decisions on the Hollywood action.
3. Coco's injury in the thumbnail.
This youtuber used a thumbnail of Coco bleeding to get people's views, but the fact is Coco collided with Tomasi and bled. It is disgusting to use thumbnails that make korea hateful to take care of his own profits.
4. I don't know what Moreno's drug use has to do with this game. And it's really disgusting to go around and conclude “fixed game”without grasping the exact facts.

Well yeah, I watched the game fairly, more than once. I also happened to watch the Portugese match that came before and the Spanish game that came after. I can say that I have the "exact facts" and, with those in mind, I can also affirm that saying the referee were favoring Korea during those games would have been a massive understatement. Just as saying that the game were fair would be a delusional take.
1 Korea out-fouled Italy in that game. There are still many visual archives of Korean players elbowing italians in the box, or Maldini getting a kick to the face.
2 Totti was pushed in the box by a defender who failed to get the ball. It was an obvious penalty. Adding to that, Moreno and both his assistants were way too far from the action to properly see if it was a dive by Totti or not. Again, it was an obvious call made in favor for Korea without second thoughts.
3. Fair, that thumbnail is inaccurate, but using that to discredit the rest of the argument is just as much in bad faith.
4 Possibly also fair, but like the previous point, it is bad faith to use that to dismiss all other arguments. Plus, Moreno becoming a drug dealer and him having a history of fixing other matches in Ecuador does point to him not being a thrustwothy and clean fellow, which further illustrate the possibility of him having been bought.
5 Thinking that people who have this "biased thinking" did not watch the game is foolish at best. This game is one of the main reason the sporting world began taking notice some of the shady things that could happen in Korean sports. Sure, the entirety of Korea should not be brought down to that, but that reputation was earned. There no way one can look at modern Korean sports, or even Korean society, and deny that there is a culture of "end justifying the means" there. Cheating IS rampant in Korean sports, more so than in the large majority of other countries, and what has enabled that is the exact sort of take that was written here and all of the misguided pride some people had in those failed sporting institution.

I might just be blind, but this doesn't look corrupt. These are the only clips I have seen from the match but it doesn't seem corrupt, but rather unprofessional which begs the point why they choose this referee in the first place. I don't know any backstory on the referee but it doesn't look like he has many hours on the pitch judging. The pen, the freekick when the korean player was hit by the ball not the player and when the ref changed from giving freekick to just advantage after blowing the whistle. Other then that it looks normal. Seems more like just wrong decision calls and unprofessionalism from the ref. If anyone can point out more situations I might understand. The ref was right in not booking freekick on the bleeding injury that was made by a fellow Italian teammate. Also Italys freekick was blocked by an Italian player.

I think we are judging the referee based on today rules as it seems the referee gives more yellow and red cards. It used to be tougher game and players were given cards if they were really aggressive. Italian players were fouled, but so the South Koreans ones, and first, based on this video. As some one else said, 2 Italians players should be sent off first. An Italian player got injured in the air, and it did not seem to be the Korean one's fault, but his teammate one. Some titles and images can influence people's opinion. I did not watch the game or do not remember it, but based on this vedio the Italians players were the more aggressive, and they deserved more cards, based on today rules.
