Reggae started in Jamaica 🇯🇲 in the 60s
There are so many sub genres to reggae- Ska, Soca, dancehall, ragga dancehall, etc.
Reggaeton started in Panama 🇵🇦 in the 80s (Nando Boom/El General/La Atrevida)
Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 popularized Reggaeton worldwide in the early 2000s thanks to Don Omar’s “Dale Don Dale” Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina” Ivy Queen’s “Yo Quiero Bailar”

First part is right but the second... Very far from the truth. Panamanian used to translate Jamaican lyrics and sing them in spanish. In PR we loved Jamaican music but couldn't understand the language. So we took Shabba Ranks "Dembow" joint and started to rap in spanish on top of those awesome Jamaican rithyms specially dancehall and ragamuffin. Mix it with Salsa and all the those puertorican rithyms from the island and the rest is history

One Jamaican man created the riddim, not all of Jamaica. The riddim may be the core of the genre but many other components created the genre. That was the work of many hard working Puerto Ricans. The name Reggaeton already is homage and respect to one of its stylistic origins. It's owed nothing else.

Puerto Ricans were already doing Perreo(Underground) on the island in the late 80s and 90s. Panama never owned any beats because the riddims were Jamaican. They were literally just dancehall translation to Spanish. Puerto Ricans already had a strong hip hop presence in NY and doing freestyle and house music in the states. They combined the dembow riddim, Perreo, NY Hip-hop, and other Latin Caribbean genres. Thus, Reggaeton on the island was born. Influence does not equate to inventing. Yes reggae en Espanol was an inspiration but not Reggaeton. As a Puerto Rican you should know that.

Black and white are used interchangeably in the states to define race and ethnicity. Black is the race and African American is the ethnicity. White is the race and technically Euro American would be the ethnicity, but no one says that ( we know why lol). Since Puerto Ricans are also Americans, that makes them an ethnic group within the US. Puerto Ricans are of Spanish, Taino, and West African descent. So they come in all shades.
