  • Ofala Festival is one of Igbo, Nigerian and Africa most popular Festival..
The festival marks the end of a period of retreat sometimes called Inye Ukwu na Nlo when the Obi remains incommunicado and undergoes spiritual purification for the good of the community. At the end of the week long retreat the Obi emerges during the Ofala to bless his subjects and say prayers for the community. Ofala is celebrated annually beginning from the coronation of the Obi to his death.

The Onitsha people, where Nnamdi Azikiwe come from do not hide the fact they have the greatest connection to the Edo kingdom, from time immemorial. Well, look at the Obi's hand and see what he is holding! The almighty ADA!!!!!! Nnamdi Azikiwe was so proud he is an Edo descendant!!!

No edo come from ibo. They were called igodomigbo. Obi of onitsha clearly said they were going to edo for trade and they always came back to the east after trade. They stopped going to edo when the edo people became wicked and started ensalving igbos who came to trade and sold them off. Read old book about this written 200 years ago. Edo were selling igbo and there are still igbo people in benin till now. A small ethnic edo can’t claim igbos who are one of the largest tribes in Africa. Ancient igbos extended even up till benin kingdom. The kingdom of nri extended to benin. Nri kingdom predates benin kingdom
