My understanding is that artists tend to rely on the ear monitors, precisely because of the delay/reverb/etc that would come from the speakers throwing them off. They are much more professional quality than typical ear buds.
EXO concerts take you on a journey. From the epic entrance performance set > sexy concept > party rave concept > acoustic performance > ballads > happy and jolly concept. All in just one concert. It's all made possible because EXO's music is so diverse and the members are so versatile that they can take on any genre and do it exceptionally. I just don't see any other group who can surpass what EXO has to offer.
EXO trained singing while running in treadmills that's why they are so stable live.

The in ear pieces are custom made. They pour “wax” into each singer ear to make a mold. They each have to use their own piece.

The ear buds is shaped by taking a mold of the person ear so that its sit perfectly in their ear without any sound leakage.there is some vid u can watch how they take the mold of the ear to make the in ear monitor. Plus the sound they hear is not the same as what the audience hear. They will hear all the countdown and the beats for the song without delay and they also hear their own voice clearly usinb the in ear monitor. Thatswhy sometimes some of the group member will take it out when someone is doing the highnote bcoz its too loud in their ear. It also help them sing in tune n not out of key. It help them harmonize better if they can hear their voice n other member voice in the sea of thousand people screaming n siinging Sometimes, the instruction n countdown from back stage also come from the earmonitor, like when they takes the lift or the cart to up or around the stage, the team behind the stage will countdown so that there is no delay in movement of the artist on stage to get the show going. Basically,in ear monitor is a crucial part of any performance
The reason why the EXO members are dressed like elves or gnomes will make more sense if you look up the "Lucky VCR" clip,
No matter where you sit, you just have to be there during EXO concert.

What I love about EXOs concerts is that they have set where they are all badass, then all cute and childish and also all sexy haha you have everything!!!! I got the luck to see them live when they came to Mexico and it was awesome!!!! Hope they have a world tour and go to UK too!!!
the thing about growing up listening to exo is that whenever i hear other groups sing live, i tend to compare their vocals with them. exo has raised my standards so high in that way. i understand that it wasn't easy to dance and sing at the same time bc even I can't do that lol. BUT the thing is, exo makes it look like a piece of cake, while being able to sound so easy and pleasant to the ears. Their vocals and musicality is on another level. I could only count on one hand the times I've heard them sing out of tune and it doesn't even sound very bad tbh 😭.
