@@YoungGee805it’s 350k for the build. And it is an actual home and treated like every other home. And what do you mean no insurance? Of course he has insurance. Why wouldn’t he? And these structures are far superior to stick built in every way.

I really like seeing engineers who can practically apply what they have learned in school. Most often it is a result of what they learned before school. This is a very well done home.

Glad you were more transparent about how you made it happen: the mix of your diy family upbringing, learned hard skills, easier savings via a six figure income from your STEM based job, stock dividends, and a credit approval all paved the way for wealth building via a $1M+ income property. It helps people look past the wow factor and connect the dots via consistent, disciplined, focused, and concerted effort. Thanks for including estimates on material, labor, and design costs. Furniture aside, the cost of quality fixtures, pillows, rugs, and curtains is no joke.

Very cool house - I'm really impressed by the quality on the materials but even more so the design. Very stylish and sophisticated - I love the industrial aesthetic with all the black details, all warmed with wood. Great job!

It is cool and nice but i feel like at this price point dimensions of shipping containers are really holding back the potential. Absolutely nothing bad to say about the final product otherwise tho.
Did I hear Devon say he graduated in mechanical engineering? Gotta feeling he's an architect and interior designer at heart. One of the very best container homes I've ever had the pleasure seeing.

The Bauhaus meets the Pacific Northwest! A beautiful build, form follows function and the shipping container build was well put together! If money were no object, I’d like to live in one myself! Valuation is right on the money and I’m impressed it got built at all in such a remote place with stunning views.

Absolutely loved this build! I am REALLY not a fan of modern builds but this one, especially with the warm touches of the Scandanavian influence, really took me in! Great job of the owner to put so much of his own time and effort into it, I really couldn’t commend him enough.

How you think shipping containers survive in the sea?
Shipping containers make for some of the toughest housing in terms of structural integrity. Would hold up a lot better than 99% of homes

Why is he using such a beautiful home as an air BNB? It's a labor of love and it would be a shame to rent it out to people who aren't going to take care of it and treat it like crap since it's not theirs.

Shipping container homes are not so beginner friendly to DIY, so kudos to him for seeing it through with his welding experience and determination. If I were to build one I would use traditional framing and then just use the container metal pieces as the last piece of siding on the outside to make it look the part.

I was excited until he said it was for B & B use. I'm finding that a lot of cool construction ideas that I see on youtube is for that purpose. I have a place in nature that I have been wanting to renovate & do something fun & not too big that blends with nature & I'm finding out that a lot of municipalities forbid this kind of construction for private use but they'll allow some of the stuff we see on youtube after they've re-zoned an area for the purpose of rentals.
Then you're surrounded by noise & parties in nature & the only winner here is the municipality because they can charge higher taxes. Everybody is out to make money. We live in a world where, on one hand we say, let's save the planet, but are totally unwilling to make the necessary changes to achieve it. Let ordinary citizens build interesting dwellings to LIVE in, that will blend with the environment & won't ruin their budget. This stuff really makes me sad. All these great building ideas used for rentals. It's a huge problem that has to be addressed.

Why is it a problem? What’s wrong with rentals? Travel is a big part of life and someone doing business in travel is nothing wrong. short term rental in a city is an issue as it results in shortage of homes so that needs to be regulated. But if that is not an issue in some places, open up a travel dwelling. It’s part of life.
@@kumark214 because by allowing it, it raises the cost of property, which raises rents and leases, which are currently out of control.

What a beautiful project, a great, elegant and functional place, and the owner is a man with the vision, so all congrats to him on the amazing house and greatly finished interior and exterior of the house.
That's a lovely home. I am sure he's looking forward to using it himself, although the AirBnB income will be welcome to pay the mortgage. He's put in the sweat equity - I know from living in the PNW that he's right about the costs if he hadn't done the work himself.
Beautiful home! I work with a prefab container company local to me to build more affordable and sustainable housing along with some spec projects. So my goal is to do something similar.
