      Humor is subjective.
      And I like to subject myself to funnier things.

      @MaskedMan66 Před 8 lety

      Jamie Laszlo I don't think you have the least notion of what is truly funny.

      +MaskedMan66 Yes. I was born without the ability to recognize what's funny. But thank god I make up for it with my ability to recognize what's NOT funny....

      Jamie Laszlo Nice try, but one infers the other. You just have no sense of humor.

    Ah yes...the era of the 70's variety show. Every celebrity had one. Most were very bad imitations of The Carol Burnett Show. I remember seeing The Captain and Tennille Show as a kid and it was amazing what brain-rot passed for comedy back then. I think the operating philosophy of television back then was that intelligent people didn't watch comedy or variety shows, so pablum like this made it to the airwaves. This was a lucky find. It's not often you find a show that was worse than Hee Haw.

      Blame ABC programming executive Fred Silverman, Odiex. After the success of "DONNY & MARIE" in the 1975-'76 season, he wanted another "family-friendly" variety show (which would also promote the hell out of ABC's other series by booking cast members from those shows as guest stars- a Silverman trademark) for the fall of '76. He chose Daryl Dragon & Toni Tennille, who were uncomfortable with most of the "pablum" comedy and musical numbers they had to perform. In 1980, Silverman- at NBC- tried again.......with "PINK LADY & JEFF", which was a LOT WORSE!

    Holy fucking shit, I never in my life thought I'd hear Andy Griffith say, "HER MOUTH ISN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US" with a straight face.

    Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille hated the sketches the writers came up with for their show. They wanted no sketches at all. The network insisted on them. Toni and Daryl felt embarrassed for their guests, including Leonard Nimoy. He found it all to be enormous fun. The music was always top notch. Toni & Daryl came up with a great showcase for Nimoy's original poetry.
    These sketches were why Captain & Tennille negotiated out of the show.
