Garbage Trucks of Europe: Italy

  • First we have an AMS SP-L owned by Switch 1988 collecting cardboard in one of the Northern areas of Genova. It's my understanding that Genova has at least two haulers, Amiu for the central areas by the port, and Switch 1988 up north in the mountain areas.
    Second is Amiu collecting more cardboard with one of their little trucks in central Genova. These trucks are responsible for almost all the waste in this area of Genova, because they fit down these little pedestrian alleys. Not sure who the manufacturer is, but they have at least two models, the R105 and R108. The R108, (seen here), is equipped with a packer very similar to the packer on the old Revopak.
    Thirdly is a Farid Micropac collecting food waste in Rapallo, a little ways east of Genova. Then is another Micropac, collecting cardboard from a business.
    Then is a Farid Minimatic collecting trash in one of the five small towns of Cinque Terre. That was the craziest thing I've ever seen; there's what LOOKS like a normal public litter bin that residents bring and put their trash into it. Then the trash just falls right through it, into a large metal container. Then when the truck comes, the driver pushes a button on a remote that raises the entire thing up, then a door opens and the trash he ejected into the hopper of the truck, much like a pup-to-rear loader transfer. After he does that, he sits there for a while and lets anyone with extra trash or large businesses bring their trash over.
    Then is a Farid Minipac collecting more cardboard in Genova on a Friday evening. And with an extremely handy pedestrian bridge right over that stop, I managed to get an excellent hopper shot of that truck.
    Then lastly, is one of the garbage boats used for collection in Venice. Workers wheel these carts around picking up trash, then bring it over to the boat to be emptied, and so on. The trash is emptied into a container, which then is likely hauled by larger boat or train to the mainland.

    Really different set-ups in Italy, the hoppers tend to be so elevated. Pretty mean overlooking view of the truck around 8:30, showed everything we wanted to see. Cool how the packer travels almost horizontally =] Water collection at the very end was neat; love how the bottom opens up the way it does.

    Nice video, you have been to Genoa, Rapallo and finally Venice, beautiful cities ... at 1:39 is a Rossi Oleodinamica R108 (built in Rimini, RN, Emilia Romagna, Italy) of the waste collection company AMIU of Genoa.
    The R108s are small but excellent, in Italy we have many difficult roads especially in the city centers. In the company I work for, we collect paper and cardboard, we also had an R108 I liked working on it. But by collecting only cardboard, unfortunately they were filled immediately, instead of mixed paper and cardboard, you could even load 700 kg. Thanks for filming it. Greetings from Turin, Piedmont, Italy ... good job everyone !!

    if you wonder what happens with the boat when it fills it goes to a port and it unloads in a truck and heads to in an inceneration plant and waste is combusted and turns into energy

    Nice job, my favorite of the series. I really like those little top pack rear loaders. The only annoying this is you can't really see the inner workings, but the shot at 7:12 too care of that lol. The barge was really cool too, looks to work really well. Are the carts wheeled around by hand?

    • @XabiExplores
      @XabiExplores Před 2 lety

  • @Trashman242
    @Trashman242 Před 10 lety +1

    oh wow this whole video was the best, but that trash boat was my favorite...works so smoothly and it had me laughing because of that. obviously I've yet to go to Venice, as that system looks like it's been in place forever. is there a compactor for the larger boat-mounted bin? it looks like that area near the opening would fill up too quickly without one, so it must have....something

    • @WasteManTony
      @WasteManTony  Před 10 lety +1

      ***** the box is essentially a self-compacting unit like in the US, but the packer is inside the body and not in a little hopper like on the roll-off units here. It's then removed like a POD and shipped to the mainland by train
