What you said is literally true about everything and most importantly is Sim-racing. Sim-racing was a worst game that tried to distinguish between what people wanted to play and what people tried to play but in reality is total failure. I have playing all of them and none can satisfied me at all because its just ARCADE game in disguise of Sim-racing, thats all.
Those "Sim-racers" are just wannabe Pro-racers while in reality cant even distinguished between driving in real-life is not same like driving in racing games except REAL Pro-racers who drives a lot of cars and make their own achievement and titles in real world. Arcade and sim-arcade games doesnt even care about that and they just play happily without need of sim-racing did on each races and each tracks, its become painstakingly boring and dull to play.
What we need right now is a racing game that doesnt need any kind of paywall-locked, cutting contents into DLC, and no-major issue when launched like all these game released since PS3/X360 era. Battle Pass (Racing Pass) is fine as long as it doesnt forced you to buying it for another paywall-locked contents (skins excluded). I already tired with all new racing games, they just being LAZY and NO INNOVATION at all, thats a fact.

They're not dead but boring. Developers are afraid of taking big risks now. I mean... look at Blur and Split/Second: Velocity. One had real cars but also power ups and really unique driving model, the other had really interesting feature of changing tracks and using traps on maps. Now we just see safe clones of NFS/Forza/GT without any new/crazy/fresh features. Even game modes are really basic (or taking battle royal like in Fortnite - forza case).

They took a big risk with Unbound in its style... but it was just regurgitated cars, mods, story line and "tweaked" physics. Heat was good, but the story was lacking. Blur and Split/Second never had a "story" it had a goal, simple, yet elegant. For a classics NFS fan myself I loved Blur and Split/Second. Kuruh's go to is MW05, mine is High Stakes. the saddest thing is, it's not just games, its all racing related media, initial d was great, now the author is making a series where a stock gt86 gains time on an r8 going in a straight line, or whatever the fast and furious series turned into. It's a shame, but I guess that's what happens when you get a niche sort of genre like racing

what's even sadder is in the racing anime/manga is other than Initial D, Wangan Midnight and some other less known like Overrev is there is still other racing manga that is not very known to other people outside of Japan, heck probably even within Japan. Like not even the new one like Inochigake demo Tarinai Nosa, GT-giRl and Osaka Mad Family (of which I still WAITING for the first chapter to be translated), but even the older one like Shatokan Boogie, Goddamn and Countach are still not been touched by someone for a long time.
And that is the manga/anime alone. Let alone other media like movies that focused on cars. Back then I remember a movie that focused about a death race and that is like what, from mid 2000s and that is still interesting. Nowadays, not a lot of directors wanna touch about racing genre aside of FF series which become a has been and like ONE that I can think of which is Ford v Ferrari.

Raycevick hit the nail on the head with this one. For me, racing games are getting closer and closer to a day-time job, from the chillout sesh after a long day it once was.
Honestly, why does it either have to be THE most mundane experience in the world, OR the most exhausting experience in the world? It's just feels unintuitive to choose between playing a half-assed arcade game with the controller and the fully "fleshed out" *simulator* where you have to set up the wheel and pay up hundreds of dollars for "lazer-scanned" tracks (woohoo, right guys?) to get the best experience.
It's off-putting, to say the least, to really not be inspired and interested at all by racing games anymore, with it being the "thing" back in the day. Keep finding myself just playing the old but gold titles now and again, but very rarely.

I saw something with more Split Second, Mad Max and Motorstorm DNA in it. Blasting across ramshackle tracks, bits of buildings falling down, evading dystopian, militaristic authorities, using homemade weaponry to take down their vehicles like harpoons, dropping spikes onto the road, etc.
You use money you win from races and other modes to buy parts for your car to upgrade them, add new weapons, upgrade the weapons, etc. Of course, having real cars would cause a ton of problems, but with fictional vehicles you can do lots of cool stuff without any worry about restrictions.
Not just cars but motorcycles, trucks, and crazy stuff you saw in motorstorm, with equipment and parts from old construction equipment welded on to make them capable in different ways.
Game modes could include not just racing, but a goal to destroy a certain amount of military vehicles, maybe causing as much destruction in an area as possible. Incorporate a pinch of Far Cry/Just c=Cause in it and give it a story about taking down an authoritarian regime. Nothing incredible, but something fun with a little extra motivation and drive to have that "fight the power" and destroy a bunch of stuff to free society or something goofy like that.
I dunno about you, but I'm frothing at the mouth for a game like that.
At a certain point it becomes less and less of a racing game, but I'd be down for an over the top driving game that inspires more pure racing games to be more creative.

He forgot the game that's very easily the best in its current state: TRACKMANIA 2020
It's not the base game, the devs, outstanding physics or sth like that that makes it great, but what they're doing is offering the perfect playground for the community and the community does tons of outstanding stuff ranging from variable driving styles, beatiful scenery, creative route mapping and all levels of difficulty to complete stupidity which results in more fun than I've had in all other racing games of recent years combined. It even has the most competitive racing league in eSports, but also a very competitive daily format that everyone can enjoy. The physics are mostly easy to start with but hard to master and while you start playing and learning you actively notice your improvements in skill which is also super satisfying.
It is different from other racing games in that it has no collisions and is basically speedrunning only, but speedrunning in rounds against other players can be just as enjoyable and if you include Hot Wheels Unleashed in this video, Trackmania 2020 more than deserves its spot in this video as well, just not as a tragedy but as one of the sparks of hope in the genre.

It needs to stop trying to invent the wheel each game and just focus on a polished, good and fun experience that plays into the identity of NFS. God I wish those concept art were for a future racing game coming out. My eyes widen out of pure shock and awe, I felt my body begin to tingle in excitement and amazement! WHY MUST I FEEL THIS WAY FOR CONCEPT ART THAT MAY NEVER TURN INTO A REAL GAME!!!! Those concept art reminded me of this anime I watched called Redline, where humans and humanoid beings race each other across multiple planets in a solar system, with a verity of vehicles, from spaceship powered muscle cars to hovercrafts! It was a wonderful anime that I was glad to see! That what those concept art reminded me of. The one time I felt excited for a new racing game was GT7 ( I was like cool, they said they are bringing back some of the features from the first set of GT games and all of that and of course it look beautiful!) Unfortunately it had a very rocky start and even now, wasn't able to satisfied gamers. If there were to be the next greatest racing game to be made, I hope for it to be like those concept art or something similar to Redline!

It's not the same and very limited, because you literally jump with Wei Shen, but Driver's was more stylish, letting you navigate through the map and each car had a different conversation between characters

Forza is a gamepass seller now, and it's so child-friendly and makes so much money from new fans that the old fans don't really have a voice anymore. GT7 has had a great formula for years until the confusing release of GT Sport and then the microtransactions in GT7. NFS finally decided to be different with not just car customization as they've already been doing, but mixing the cel-shading, graffiti effects, and realism, yet they forgot to actually give us a game and instead gave us Heat 2.0, which they dropped the ball on, gave us 9 new cars and just told us to do whatever and they'll be back in 4 months to update the game. And indie games usually focus on one niche area of racing that migth interest some more than others. There's no soul anymore, these studios just want our money.

Imagine having a game nowadays, where it doesn't take itself so seriously, worked perfectly out the box, was affordable for everyone to play, and most important of all, IT'S FUN TO PLAY. Everything is trying to be so cinematic and perfect, yet they fail with that everytime. Why can't GOW for example, have a quest where you fight unicorns for example, break the mould of the game. Why can't GOW have it's full on gore back again, ripping heads off, boobs, sex mini games, literally it's core it had all those years ago, has gone. I'm not really hitting out at GOW, I'm sure it's a good game either way, but my point still stands, there isn't any fun anymore. Most companies will just fill a map with boring side quests, bloated map collectibles, and the general gaming public will lap up again and again. Where has the soul gone? Every release doesn't have to break the boundaries everytime of technology, it just has to be fun to play, no micros, no DLC just free content added as a token gesture, a working on launch game with no patches (doesn't need to be perfect either), silly game modes, online lobbies, couch co-op (doesn't matter if no one uses this, just add it, it will benefit someone). Literally ditch ranked modes, just let everyone play the game for fun, customisable lobbies can be for the hardcore players of said game. Anyways, I don't wanna add anymore to what I've already said, I just want fun games again.

32:44 This could be awesome if you had the rogue-like element be done through a racing company, as opposed to the driver(s). Outside of the races you're playing as a company manager or something and need to deal with the crew, the driver(s) and the car(s), and inside of the races you're playing as a particular driver racing with a particular car. Could start off with a beater that you're earning money to fix up and upgrade, and eventually you turn it into a full racing car and hire a second driver with their own car. Accidents in races do real damage to the cars that can force them out of events and require you to pay money to fix, maybe even forcing the choice between spending more money upfront to get back into the same racing tier or spending less money upfront to get back into a lower, safer tier to earn money more safely. A car may end up being too heavily damage forcing you to write it off and junk it, or a driver may end up being injured forcing them to sit an event out or even leave the crew since they can't race anymore. Run out of money, cars and drivers, and it's game over for good.

i think companies need to take a step back in many ways and look at the past if they want a future. i still haven't seen anyone referring to how we are no longer free in any career mode, being dragged from one race to the next instead of picking the events we want when we want. gt3 and 4, fm3 and 4. holding our hands rewarding you for losing is the big thing now, there are no losers. instead of the get good attitude of for example midnight club 3 or any midnight club for that matter. a racing gamer only needs three things to be really happy, fun, handling, and a reasonable challenge. I'm an oldie so i started out on the first gran turismo and the first forza. up to the fourth on both. after that they lost their way and forgot the three basics that made them.

Nothing but facts here. Wreckfest really is the only relatively new racing game which is really good. Just give me new Arcade-Racers like NFS Porsche - Prostreet, Dirt 2, Split Second, Flatout 2, Blur, Hydro Thunder, Star Wars Episode I Racer or even Hot Pursuit 2010. Pretty much all of them were extremely fun because they had beautiful designed tracks/worlds and a really good handling. That's pretty much all I need to have fun. I don't need and I also don't want a cringe-worthy story and/or overly social story-characters who are always talking/calling/commenting. I don't need player character poses, dances or all this nonsense either. I just want good racing games again and not some trendy, cringey RPG with driving gameplay.

I would like NFS to go with the Porsche Unleashed formula again, but not restricting itself to one brand.
Get rid of the story altogether and make the cars and the tracks the only things that matter in the game, and instead of simply going from weaker GT cars all the way up to hypercars, it could be done through decades or eras.
It would also simplify the matter of balance because you don't have to throw realism away to make something like, say, the Diablo, Murciélago and Aventador part of the same tier just because the three are supercars. The decade/era separation shows the player that no, they are not comparable even though they were part of the same market section.

I feel like a lot of people who believe the racing genre is in a lull really don't branch out from games or series they're comfortable with. You can't really expect things to change if you don't branch out and expand horizons (and neither can developers). There's still some racers being made, but just wander outside of the familiar a few times. Break Arts II, Beam.NG drive, Aero GPX, Victory Heat Rally, Fast Beat Loop Racer GT, Engine Evolution 2022, Trackmania, Cartoonite, CarX Online, Speedonauts, Neodash, Wreckreation, and Hot Lap League are some of the recent titles. (some of which are in development and a few which are Early Access)
Sure, most of what I list is arcade, but think about it. Those games often don't have licensed cars, licensed soundtracks, and they have their own unique levels (most of the time). Considering that most sim racers do use similar tracks, lots of real-world models, real-world tracks, etc. It's hard to expect them to be able to afford many creative risks. (most importantly, arcade racers are objectively more accessible) What would be nice is to see more main stream racers (if they need to use real world cars) create fictional (but believable) venues for racing, to save on costs primarily to increase development quality. We do have Forza Horizon doing good in that regard, but we do need less giants alone at the top and more racers to be elevated.
Branch out and expand your horizons if you feel like racing genre is stagnant. You don't have to replace what you like. Just *add* to it.

I agree with him, the racing genre is becoming so boring that it's dying from within. not a single developer wants to take risks to make a game engaging, fun and rewarding. I can respect the devs pushing tech for more realism, but let's face it, that era is gone. it's time for something new and unique that sims, arcades and simcades can enjoy without having to be toxic or broken towards one another
