When my 30 year old son was a baby the doctor prescribed paregoric to help with teething pain. When my second child was born and I asked the doctor could I please have some more paregoric to help with teething pain I was told absolutely not! Pediatrician said paregoric is a narcotic and definitely not prescribed anymore. Gram mom said mother’s would give to children in olden days to help with diarrhea and upset stomach’s. Fun video Branden 😊 thanks for taking us along 🤗

When I was about 10, (71 now) my Dad use to take me bottle hunting in the southern San Diego California mountain homesteads. He ran a minimum security county jail crew cleaning roads, working wildfires, etc., in a SD County Camp in the mountains.
One bottle trip, he called me over to the edge of a large boulder, & I found over 20 cool finds, including old insulators. I knew
he & his crew stashed them, but I still had fun.
Thanks for the memory. & yes, I still have quite a few of them.

Those round bottomed bottles were meant to be stored on their side so that the cork would not dry out and shrink, thus spoiling the contents.

Paregoric, was available on prescription up till about 10 years ago. We dispensed a lot of it for diarrhea. It contained camphor, opium, and alcohol. When I was a baby my mother worked at Whites Drugstore in Pratt City. You were allowed to buy one ounce at a pharmacy, without a prescription in Alabama. Mom rubbed it on my gums for teething pain.

Paregoric = 🤮 … when we were kids in the mid 50-early 60’s if we got a stomach bug our mom gave us this. Our Dr didn’t hesitate to prescribe it but we only got a bad stomach bug about once a year. Twas Nasty tasting as all get out but it worked. Great dig site!! Love y’all’s channel!! ❤

Very cool video, I enjoy watching you find neat things. The bottle shown at 18:20 with the rounded bottom that would not have sat up on its own most likely had a basket type of holder attached to the bottom originally. This would have allowed it to sit on a surface. Several years ago I brought home from Italy a small wine bottle with an attached woven holder, and my bottle is about the same size as what you found.

Y'all need a 1/4" mesh sifter like you see on archaeological digs to see what else you're missing. Cool dig! Maybe a volunteer crew could be sifting for you as you dig or on a whim go back and sift your piles. They are easy to make and portable ... anyway that's enough armchair coaching from here in Alaska. Take care out there and have fun!

Brandon, Collier, Meyer Brothers, McKessons, and Walker Drug were major drug wholesale houses serving Birmingham drugstores in the 1930’s through the sixties. My parent’s drugstore in Centerpoint bought from them. Also I would love to buy one of yours Bains Drug Woodlawn bottles. On one of your older videos you found a Gilmers Drug Ensley bottle. What is cholera?
Cholera is an acute, diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with the toxigenic bacterium Vibrio cholerae serogroup O1 or O139. An estimated 1.3 to 4 million people around the world get cholera each year and 21,000 to 143,000 people die from it. People who get cholera often have mild symptoms or no symptoms, but cholera can be severe. Approximately 1 in 10 people who get sick with cholera will develop severe symptoms such as watery diarrhea, vomiting, and leg cramps. In these people, rapid loss of body fluids leads to dehydration and shock. Without treatment, death can occur within hours.

Hi yall. I have a Jacob's Pharmacy, Atlanta and a Jacob's, Alabama. I dug both of them from an old farm site in Gwinnett County Georgia. Are they rare? Love yall and don't miss an episode. That green round bottle bottle I think is an Italian wine. It would have had a basket it sat in that made it sit upright and served as the bottom. I think that's correct but could be wrong lol. Would have been a more recent bottlre.

Got poison ivy a few times while metal detecting, the last time I got it, I must have rubbed my eyes, probably to wipe sweat, and it blew up all over my face, arms, tops of my hands. It lasted for 3 weeks. ( even with medication) and yes, I always wear gloves. Hope you get better soon.
