Good one, John. Thanks. There are some north of Winnipeg here, but I've not checked them off... yet.

Once you find where they hunt, they are so fun to watch! It is fast and furious when the all hunt together! Hopefully, I'll get another video of them in this season.

I had an opportunity to observe and photograph the short eared owl, this past winter, at a drive thru national wildlife refuge, north of Vancouver, Washington. You must stay in your vehicle, which also serves as a blind. It was amazing to watch them. Patience is key, as you said. My last 3 trips there in early February, there were at least 20 cars parked and waiting several hours, hoping that they would come out before sunset. They did not. Mega camera and lenses were waiting, propped up inside the car, next to the cars’ windows. Will try again next season. It seems they were out earlier in the day, at times, in late November and December. You might get a glimpse of them ‘napping’ during daylight hours, in the dried grasslands next to water and marshes. They camouflage very well against the dried grasses, and may be visible right from your vehicle.

I found some close to home my first attempt was ok but they were so far way at dusk pictures were grainy. I’ll keep trying! I just enjoyed see them fly magical!

I’ve had those days before! Too far and low light. Always fun to watch though. Someday they will be up earlier and fly right by you! Enjoy!!

@@johnrobertsonphotography Thank you. It’s hot on my list to keep pursuing it but not much time left this season they may be going north soon. I love being out in nature with my camera. The great thing is you never know what’s going to happen and the challenge of improving your skills!!

@@RH-cp6xw Yeah, the season for them here is about over. Getting out and photographing is the real goal.
