Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Bangkok, Thailand. It sits majestically on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and is named after Aruna, the Hindu god of dawn. The temple's distinctive feature is its central prang (tower), which rises over 70 meters (230 feet) tall and is adorned with intricate ceramic tiles and seashells, creating a stunning mosaic effect.
Visitors to Wat Arun can climb the steep stairs to the top of the central prang, where they are rewarded with panoramic views of the river and the surrounding cityscape. Surrounding the central tower are four smaller prangs, each dedicated to a different Hindu god. The temple complex also features ornate pavilions, sculptures, and shrines, all decorated with elaborate Thai craftsmanship.
Wat Arun is particularly stunning during sunrise and sunset when the light reflects off its surfaces, creating a golden glow. It is one of Bangkok's most popular tourist attractions and a must-visit for anyone interested in Thai culture, history, and architecture.
