I’ve been telling people that the song emotions isn’t just about the whistle notes, most of the belting sits on the fifth octave and the amount of power, stamina, and flexibility, as well as the smooth and rich lower tones that Mariah gives in this song is just insane to replicate.
@@Solo-vh9fm She’s actually said that after the studio recording of Emotions she lost her voice, so thankfully even though she got close to the studio version she would’ve completely trashed her vocals more than she did over the years if she constantly tried to exactly do the studio version.
So true that so many people are blinded or deafened by the whistle notes of this power ballad (in fact by Mariah Carey as well). There are so many vocal techniques running behind those whistle notes, the top belts, low notes, transition & of course the melismas in each register.
Even Mariah simplifies the song live (not doing every riff, lowering key, not doing the lowest run etc.) she said the producer really pushed her in the studio and that she couldn't sing for days after
I’m impressed with this girl’s dedication. But Mariah’s songs are vocal suicide songs!! She better choose attainable songs to fit her voice. Best of luck to her. And take care of her vocals. 👏 👏👍👍
But also the fact the girl is playing with her voice at an earlier age is going to be beneficial to her when her voice matures and she has already explored the range and agility that she can access easier as a teenager.
@@Solo-vh9fm Usually when you do stuff like that, you risk destroying your voice because it is not developed to be handling material of this difficulty.
for 15 that's really positively ambitious and hope she gets better at it while not damaging her vocals. But I wonder what Natalie would think when she hears Morissette Amon's Emotions like it's a children's song my god
I love morisette but her songing it is FARRRRRR. From children’s play. Even for her the song whose one of the greatest vocalist ever, it was a major miss in terms of tonal quality and phrasing wise while belting and pitch wise she was all over the song
For 15 years old to be singing like that is crazy. I mean, Emotions is probably the hardest song ever and she's singing THAT. If she can sing Emotions then she can sing anything because Emotions requires every single register to be perfect and it has a 4 OCTAVE RANGE IN ONE SONG. That's insane.
I think the girl has an extended Head Voice. It's called "Super Head Voice" It's full and not as airy like a true whistle. But still so incredibly impressive!
@@afrolatino89 i just call it head voice but when people hit notes in the 6th octave in their head voice that's "super head voice" but the girl singing she's in her whistle register
Why you dont have whistle tones? You can learn it if u wont. Make a soft Vocal fry and if u do soft vocal fry go up with the same pressure in head voice and find the right position. Than it works.
This song is next to impossible to reproduce outside of a studio. If you look at the mix session you see that Mariah recorded those high notes and perfected them and then they’re added throughout. She didn’t sing through that in one take, which is perfectly understandable since anyone would have vocal fatigue trying to get through the song singing every part live. You’re basically comparing yourself to one of the greatest singers ever in her prime. It’s like learning tennis for a couple years and wondering why you’re not as good as a highlight reel of Serena Williams’s best shots.
Still is impossible, the hardest part of the song isn’t the whistles, it’s the high phrased belts (all over the 5th octaves) and the stamina you need to keep going up and down all over your range
The wonderful Glennis Grace sang Emotions live in the Netherlands. An incredible live band, an incredible singer without the whistle register. She sang the shit out of this song, even without the "whistle". Still, the greatness, the brilliance of the original, and the tonal quality will very rarely be approached again. And I want to emphasize that I don't think the quality of a singer is expressed just by the ability to whistle. Glennis did a more than fantastic job! ► czcams.com/video/JW-0VnmqI9U/video.html
Natalie is SO funny describing the difficultly level of this song
"On the scale of 1 to 10, the difficulty level is a 27", so damn true

that song is literally IMPOSSIBLE to sing 😭😭😭
lets just mariah sing it😭😭😭
@@harrypotter3365 right😭😭😭
I didn’t realize there were that many register shifts in the song oh my god
It was Mariah’s prime! And she had a lot of voice on her throat lol
@your baguette the diaphragm only works when you breathe in! Humans sing on exhale not inhale.
Even Mariah didn’t attempt everything in any one performance and she never sang it in original key

her song Fantasy is already hard, my throat sored after this

3:17 sounds like young Ariana Grande. You know why
Never thought I'd be living for Natalie's OooOwoAhs and AAaaAas and BuMbUdudUms
She's so chaotic but it's true
I’m impressed with this girl’s dedication.

Well like she said, you have to build up to that level. You can’t be a beginner and sing like that.
There are people that can sing mariah songs, especially her songs can fit certain voice types.

@mariahcarey proved - absolute legend :)
The way Natalie dissects the song is one helluva a job. 👏🏼
SO INTERESTING 🤗🤗
Learned alp!
Omg we need a follow up

No such thing as super head voice.

@RJ Hall Super Head Voice doesn't exist. It's chest head whistle.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
she sounds like Ariana grande (because of the heady mix), I loved it 😅❤

It's funny how when your mixed is heady, thin and a bit nasal, you automatically sounds very similar to Ariana Grande.

you will just achieve your own brilliance if you trained damn hard. that is what she is doing. train and learn. she did well for a 15 yrs old.
This song is also so weighty. But she seems to like Ariana's version.
Everyone has whistle tones it’s just hard to acsess them healthily
Without whistles, is it possible to be sung?
Mariah sing without whistle live
Yes but it will still be hard
Still hard af. Fast melismas, so many register transitions, and sudden tone jumps even for chest voice and head voice lol.

She was doing an eye look
