@@eliescobis9922 Eh, I would guess it's a side effect of bps not focusing as much on the fight scenes, and more on how tf you give a fair amount of screen time to, like, 5-6 different plots developing, intersecting, and deviating. Sounds really difficult. I feel like there were about 15 characters the movie was focusing on at some points, even though a bunch died during the course of it.
Even today, I don't understand how a studio like Black Plasma could cancel such a beautiful series!

This episode is unquestionably the best of all the fanmades and is close to BPS standard (especially the facial expressionss at the legionaire scene they're so good). Music at the opening before Senn and Galleous and the training montage is like BPS too
Feedback:
music was good, but sometimes not suitable (when Igneous was talking to Aren, the music should have been more bouncy, for this Helios did better) especially at 13:43 the music is pretty weird. Also why is Deathsinger's theme playing at the galleous and Senn part?
a bit too much arm waving when Abbigail and the legionaire was talking, but maybe that's just a style
Luna growls were a bit too deep for her age
Music when Abbigail and Luna being surrounded did not reflect the tense and ominous mood enough, and sometimes the music could be louder (also the music should have sounded like Jalkar music to show they're of the same group)
To be realistic, Abbigail should have been grazed or hit at least once, she can't be that pro
Maybe put less battle cry sounds
These were exactly the things I noticed, good review. This is a really good animation and considering it is made by a lot of the OG team I would love to see some more of it
You and I clearly had very different interpretations of the conversation in Meridian. I scored the exchange to be tense and uncomfortable but have a more optimistic resolution. Not everything with Igneous in it has to automatically gain his bounciness.

The opening shots for this were gorgeous. Wow
Alright well here are my thoughts: the animation jumped a bit from being smooth to being a bit stiff but overall it was fine, facial animation was also pretty good, not much to say about that. The lighting was gorgeous, and the music was also pretty good, but sometimes it felt like the music was a bit too loud. My main problem is the pacing, it’s not terrible but it did feel a bit fast, especially the prologue, but I know that it takes a lot of effort to make something like this. The best scene was the fortzuka battle. It had good pacing, smooth animation, amazing lighting and epic background music. this is definitely the best sow S2 ep1 released, not to hate on others, they’re also good.

The producers do admit the pacing was a bit too fast, and since nobody has really any experience managing an animation team, most of the animator’s styles clashed.
Damn, it's so sad that BPS wasn't able to continue the next season. I really liked Songs of War and thanks so much for this and I hope you guys continue to make more episodes of this! It wouldn't matter how long it takes because it will be worth the watch anyway.

@@tutelooo Yeah it actually started blowing up right after Arbiter announced that he was cancelling Songs of War. The story and designs were super good and way above the standard in my opinion. But I guess it didn't appeal to most people in the beginning.

As someone who's been following the production of this series from the beginning, words can't describe how happy I am to see this being continued. Everyone deserves a round of applause for the outstanding quality of the animation, music, and voice acting on a shoestring budget. I have no experience in animation or sound design, so my critiques probably don't amount to much, but what I probably noticed most was the molding of the sound effects and music with the scene. For example, the battle cries and music for Abbigail's fight and Fort Zuka Battle was overpowering where sound effects (stabs, weapon clashing, extinguishing flaming arrow) should have been prioritized. I also felt that the volume of the background music for the Senn/Galleous song discussion scene took away some emphasis on the seriousness of the conversation.
Other critiques:
Not enough shading for the desert village - I know the desert is supposed to be extremely bright, but all the more reason the shade should stand out more. The sandstone reflects too much light and doesn't show the subtle and rich shades of yellow the original series displayed.
Too many battle cries/exertion sounds for Niika's fight - I only felt it was appropriate for cutting down the first arrow, bringing down both blades against the sword, and stabbing the necromancer. Even still, I think the sounds should only have been short explosive exhalations that last less than two-thirds of a second.
Niika's fight sequence - I felt her moves lacked the feline grace and explosiveness of her character. Specifically, there is too much pre-movement before her horizontal slash at 18:10 to 18:11, and I think she should have used only the left hand for the slash while bringing up her right for the vertical slice to make the timing of the hits flow more smoothly and eliminate unnecessary movements. The speed of the slashes didn't feel fast enough, like she wasn't committed to hitting her opponent in the first place. The pacing from 18:16 to 18:18 also seemed unnatural. If it were me, I probably would have put the slash/death after the kick, followed by the realization of the skeleton shooting the arrow, then using the body as a shield from the projectile.
18:11 - The frames where the necromancer completely blocks the camera view of Niika really interrupts the flow of the fight.
1:52 - The Mendoris/Sendaris guy should have turned his body to the right and moved his left arm when he stepped forward with his left foot, makes the slash seem less robotic and fencing-like
1:56 - Deathsinger has too much delay/pre-movement during the fight: he should have been jumping 7-8 frames after his sword reaches its lowest position while raising it for the stab
2:01 - Reaction felt a bit slow; should have already been turning by the time the song was fired
2:04 to 2:06 - I think a more diagonal slash would have felt more natural and 3-dimensional
2:06 - Excessive slow motion; there was already one a few seconds before it
2:07 to 2:08 - The intent to kill doesn't seem serious to me. I would have made Zulius block the hit from the staff and get blown back against the side of the hill. I think this would better illustrate how hard the Deathsinger hits and show that both parties are really trying to hurt each other.
3:50 to 4:08 - Senn's training montage music was a little bit too loud
6:12 - Forget the transition? 😆
6:13 to 6:33 - The cut really detracts from the flow of the scene. A couple of clashes before backing off would have worked much better, and the lack of movement/circling doesn't fit the combative mood. I also feel that Abbigail shouldn't be waving her arms as much as the Legionnaire, since Abbigail is still considered a relative amateur when it comes to fights, so she should be more wary when facing a more experienced opponent.

8:39 - Could have chosen a better camera angle to continue the cut
These were all the imperfections I managed to catch. I must repeat that I have absolutely zero experience animating or creating any kind of entertainment for an audience, so take this commentary with a grain of salt. I totally understand if these are ignored because of budget or time constraints, and please don't let the critiques detract from what the amazing team accomplished using the resources available to them. I will always appreciate any future episodes and wait patiently until then. Cheers! 😃😁
6:12, there transition was supposed to be seamless, it's just youtube made that frame stay on a bit longer than it's supposed to, there was supposed to be a fight after 6:12 but it was never finished in time for the episode so that's why the cut to them talking feels awkward, only 8 seconds were made. And for someone who has no experience in animation, you do seem to know a lot about cinematography. Meridians scene was initially going to be more bright like how you probably want it, but the producers felt the brightness was too much and took away from seeing all the detail.

This is the best fan made songs of war season 2 i've seen so far. The animation is pretty good except for some scenes. The audio is decent, some conversations sounded like they were separate conversations cut together but it is still very good.

This was really good! I really like Songs of War, and I was really sad, when it was cancelled. I'm very happy now, that I can see it continuing in the original quality. It's the best of all fanmades, however I agree with @StormCat in the small details. I would also add one thing: The jumps and fallings should be more arched, they are going down too fast. Even with these small things, the eoisode is very good! Thank you Knights of Ardonis for creating it!

this is a beautiful masterpiece. im sorry to Helios fans out there, but this blows it out of the water and explains a lot more than the other. i really hope you do more. and i have to say this. i think Ingressus might have a slight case of PTSD. i mean, no one suffers through what he had to without spiritual and mental scars.

This is really good, and by dar the best interpretation of this episode i've seen, though I do have some constructive critisism. I think especially the fight scenes suffer from a slower, one-hit-at-a-time approach. The original series's action was intreguing because of it's speed. The slower paste is perfect for training scenes, but others like the Mt. Velgrin fight and Galleous's flashback would have bennefitted from faster action. The music and sound editing are also a bit odd in places. I feel like the grunts are a little louder than they need to be and the music (especially in action scenes) could be louder.
Edit: Wow, the action in Fort Zuka really nails the speed! The dialogue scenes in Abbigail's fight feel just a little off in my opinion. It's propably the crazy ammount of hand-waving.
The music doesn't really need to be much louder in action scenes since they already drown out a lot of sound effects at their current volume and making them louder would just hide more of that sound design effort.
How often will other episodes release? Will they release every week or every month? What can we expect?

it took a long time to do since non of us are paid or held by contracts to work on it full time, this is what we made after almost a year of work

So yeah this is like my 10th time watching this and the more I watch

I love how face expression is so good (well except abigail's part) it's just so detailed!
I still hate how abigail's fight is unfinished
But I guess I wouldn't blame the Animators they aren't paid and well... Have alot of other things to do
So yeah here's my full thoughts about the animation
I don't really like the part where Ingressus cries I mean the water is not cube which doesn't really make sense on Minecraft.
I love the prologue the montage of deathsinger hunting the masters
I can't tell the difference between the s1 animation and this Fanmade at that part
Well the velgrin battle was good. My only prob is how they left that dead dude at the air even after a few frames they didn't animate him to fall down 2:03
Poor dud directly went to heaven
The senn training montage was overall good aswell. No prob at all
The Abigail scene yeah was fine
It should be good when they had enough time to finish her full battle
Lucan and Kiyoshi's interaction was good that's one of the parts where it has detailed face expressions.
and the fight on that part is also really great
The way kiyoshi just goes punching the enemy when he doesn't have his spear is cool and hilarious at the same time.
The Igneous scene was fine. I just don't like how it wasnt so bright at the dessert I think it would be a greater scene if it is bright. I dunno why I just think
The way Abigail interacts with Luna by talking is weird
I mean how does she understand dragon language
I think signs would be a better idea
Senn talking with Galleous was a good scene
and Nikka fighting the necromancers
and taken over was a good scene
Cause I also had no problems with it
Anyways I hope you guys make episode 2 with this awesome quality!
In the script Luna was communicating by sign language, yea KoA didn't make it clear
