Traffic lights are placed on the near-side for several reasons: the placement forces drivers to actually stop at the stop line and not block pedestrian crossings, in addition it helps draw driver attention to where where they have to yield to people walking and cycling when turning. If you find yourself struggling to view the lights, just stop a few feet sooner.

The "problem" with fairy tales is that Mr. Walt Disnep skewed our expectation to what a fairy tale is. Modern fairy tales all have a happy ending where they lived happily ever after. Classical fairy tales as collected and written down (but not invented by) the Grimm brothers were life lesson and warnings about the dangers of the world (don't wander off alone into the forest, etc.) The original mermaid in Hans Christian Andersen (a Dane) basically dies at the end of the story.

I just had an epiphany. Good whiny heavens, it all makes sense all of a sudden. All the details leading to the end of the tunnel. Gotcha!
You. Are. A. PUMPKIN (that has been forgotten to be completely hollowed out before carving the grimace)!!!!
Hence the cardboardbrain-ism and the tenacious repetition of so much stuff..."Man".
Hence the fear of of Bugs Inc! Of course, they could feast on the remnants of the already perforated brain.
Hence the almost disturbing consumption of hand sanitisers to prevent decay through germs.
Hence taking saunas to keep oneself looking like dried fruit and to preserve what's left.
Hence the scented candle obsession - to keep the stench, plus the buggy enemie away and maintain enlightenment.
Blimey Man-Pumpkin-Child, there are chances of overly bright moments from within at this particular time of year - albeit artificial in nature. Use them wisely.
The sweets... yeah, if you look creepy enough and whine as a proper as the Halloween pumpkin that you are, there are plenty of those waiting for you at the end of the month.
    Wow. Mindblowing.

I wonder, if there is still the crocodile for trash that says "Papiiieeer!" when you get next to it :D And I loved the frog as well :D

    Because of the traficlight
In Germany we haveTraficlights on the Top and on the right side
In earlier times the windows of the cars was more big. So you could see the one one the top from fare away and the one one right side from near by very good. Nowadays the windows are more small, and the ' A-säule is very wide. If you want to see the one on the right side it is very difficult, you lock directly to the A-säule
If you see a BMW from 1980 and one from 2020 you know what I mean

Putting traffic lights on the opposite site of crossings only really works for rectangular crossings. But Germany has so many crossings with more than four roads meeting or at very weird angles, that in many cases, it would not be clear for which road the traffic lights at the opposite side of the crossings are.

Traffic lights on the near side are objectively more inconvenient but better than traffic lights on the far side. let me explain:
With the traffic lights on the near side, you are forced to look upwards and to the side. Thus you get pedestrians and cyclists into view (direct or peripheral or via the rearview mirrors), which leads to more awareness and subsequently fewer accidents.
I prefer better to more convenient.

  • @furzkram
    @furzkram Před 2 lety

On a simple crossing without turning, traffic lights in the opposite side would be ok.
As soon as there's several lanes for straight and turning, people could mistakenly look at the wrong ones.
Anyway it's easy to know when it's green - when the car behind you is honking that gives you a clue.

The creativity here is off the charts
And I'm not just talking about pumpkin art
    'cause that traffic light
    Through its angle and height
Promotes neck fitness, which is actually pretty smart
Those caring yet misunderstood traffic light electricians know what they're about.

You also train your creativity by using mirror effects on shop windows, other cars or wet streets to see if "it" is green already.

I like sweet-sour pumpkin so much. My wife allowed me to buy two pumpkins from a local farmer, not more. There I found "it". The farmer and I had to roll it onto a blanket and lift it into my car ( 'Citroen C3) by grabbing the four corners of the blanket. My car sreamed with pain when we lowered the pumpkin into its back. My wife was angry with me, I do not know why. If anyone is interested in our recipe for sweet-sour pumpkin please feel free to ask. In a nutshell: Sugar, water, vinegar, ginger, other spices, two days of work and sterile jars is all you need.

We are also good at creating kitsch :). Not only did we invent the word, but also keep the concept alive with garden gnomes, fairy tale parks, and pumpkin festivals. Art is for overpaid snobs, kitsch is for everyone.
