- This is a dairy farm on a very small area with many cows. A chaff cutter machine for dairy farm is used for chopping feed. This young farmer is a very good dairy farm instructor on how to start cattle farming business.

informative insights
There is this wonderful super nappier grass that have potential to yield 180-200 tonnes per acre with a CP of 18%. In figurative terms its able to feed approximately 20 dairy cows or 200 dairy goats or 200 dorpers per acre per year. One acre of supper nappier is equivalen to 15 acres of maize sileage in terms of tonnage per year. This is a variety that we would like to encourage especially dairy farmers with small acreage of land to consider.
Thanks for sharing

I have around one acre of land but i want to use it to keep around 10 to 15 cows by now i have around 5 cows will I manage it or kuna advice will I aquire from you
your 3 acres is like 45 acres and can feed 60 cows instead of 3 cows on maize silage,
This semeni can be implanted to local cows plz i need it
Serious farmer, kagrc bulls are designed for Kenya but it's not utilized by most Kenyans, upcoming dairy farmers in neighbouring countries have good cows because mostly they utilize imported semen from kagrc.
Chenwach(es) to the world. Glad it ain't got temper issues
But aheifer should be 2yrs to conceive to avoid difficulties during labour, even it becomes bigger in size and high milk production
Not really
🎉ipo siku to
This guy Rerimoi understands his work so well. Bigups man👊
What about doing the feeds purely on super napier or juncao grass, how many cows can be kept in 3 acres
It is okay but needs to be supplimented with other feeds. 3 acres can accommodate a maximum of 5 cows if you are producing feeds equivalent to the 3 acres.
@@krerii3692if you plant high yealding nappier like supper nepier will give you feeds worth about 1tone ...that can feed for 3 months
How many acres of land that host those cows
How many kg of feeds should an adult cow take per day, and what is the feeding plan for each day in terms of kg? am in Ug
As this guy says in the video, a cow should be fed feed equivalent to three percent of its body weight. So if your cow weighs 500kg, three percent is 15kg of feed. However, this feed is being measured as dry matter. So what is the dry matter content of your feed? For instance, if you took 100kg of freshly cut nappier grass, what is the dry matter there? Well, ideally, it should be measured, but since you don't have the tools to measure, what I would advice you to do is consult your local extension officers to give you guidelines about the dry matter content of the feed you are using. I have tried to google, and for example for grass, the figures I'm getting suggest that an assumption that grass contains 20 percent dry matter is a reasonable assumption. So back to your question of how much to feed cows, if we assume you are feeding fresh grass with a dry matter of 20 percent, it means that 1kg of grass contains 0.2kg of dry matter. Therefore to feed your cow 15kg of dry matter, you need to feed it 75kg of fresh grass (15 divived by 0.2), if you are only feeding it the fresh grass and nothing else. In reality, however, you probably feed your cow dairy meal. Dairy meal has a much higher percentage of dry matter compared to fresh grass, because it's made from ingredients that are quite dry. Results from Google are suggesting it has a dry matter of 90 percent. That means if you feed your cow let's say 4kg of dairy meal per day, in terms of dry matter, this equates to 90 percent of 4kg, which is 3.6kg of dry matter. So when doing your calculation, you have to deduct this from the total 15kg of dry matter that your cow is supposed to get. That means your cow should get 11.4kg of dry matter from your fresh grass (15 - 3.6). This now means after feeding the 4kg of dairy meal, you now give 57 kg of fresh grass, and not the 75kg we initially calculated (57 is obtained by diving 11.4 with 0.2, which remember is the dry matter per kilo of your fresh grass).
Here is a Quora answer explaining this:
