For me the hardest adjustment is the bike is easy to stall (2022 model that has been updated), even compared to my 2019 RE Himalayan. But I am sure over time I will get better at clutching it.

This is reassuring to hear. I thought it was just me. The clutch on my 2018 is very sensitive and it stalls easily. I like to challenge myself to see if I can go a whole ride without stalling it. Still, it's a fun bike to learn on!

@@zach5169 Hi, I had a BMW Motorad dealer service the other day. I have a feeling the service includes a software upgrade - I don't suffer from the stalling issue. That said, I feed in some revs when I drop the clutch. The Himalayan is super 'torquey', as with some 400cc single pot adventure bikes, think Suzi DRZ 400, can roll along without feeding in the revs.
Enjoying mine. Had it since October. After the 600 mile / $400 service where they change the oil and check the color of the paint, it's a lot of fun to open it up while accelerating. For me, it has just the right amount of power to where I can ring it out and have a little fun without being stupid dangerous. Have never had an issue with mine going into false neutrals as you described, but I always keep it in first gear with clutch pulled in whenever I'm at a light or a stop sign, always being ready to move quickly if I need to for saftey. Only time I use neutral is at the beginning or end of the ride when I"m off the road. That said, it can be a little tricky to find neutral between 1st and 2nd sometimes, but the indicator on the display has always shown correctly when I get it.
I use an Ewool heated vest. I put a connector on my bike that plugs into my vest from the motorcycle battery, so can stay warm as long as there is gas in the tank. I've had several different heated vest over the years, and Ewool is by far the warmest I've tried, though they cost a little bit.

Had mine a year. Totally agree with what you said about the gearbox. I'm still getting false neutrals. Rode the bike in very carefully and rarely get less than 80mpg. When I first bought it, the vibrations were terrible, but happy to say it has smoothed out lovely now. Brakes are fine and it handles superbly. Very comfortable riding position and seat, I'm 5' 8".. I think it's a good little bike.

With some few tweaks, it’s an excellent all rounder for all riders, regardless of experience. I always say that this bike was (unfairly) judged on what it could’ve been rather than what it is.

2:00 - I made an ultralight heated vest from two automotive seat heaters and it works very well.
2:50 - Don't all bikes have a problem finding neutral? My 2019 G310GS is sometimes hesitant to display the neutral dash indicator but I've never had it show neutral but not be in neutral. Maybe the neutral switch on your G310GS needs to be adjusted? My loder G310GS doesn't have ride by wire. First is geared a bit high and the small engine doesn't have much of a flywheel so I do need to be careful not to stall the bike when starting from a stop. I may get a Rekluse clutch when it's time for a replacement clutch but don't want to spend $820 at the moment.
5:00 - I think the fly-by-wire low speed throttle response you describe is the feature that I previously described which prevents low speed engine stalling, which is annoying and potentially dangerous. I guess, if you're an expert rider, you might prefer the more direct control with a throttle cable as I have on my 2019 baby GS, but I suspect newer riders will prefer the more forgiving ride-by-wire stall prevention, but I feel that this issue is a feature, not a bug, even though it bugs you. BMW definitely sees the G310GS as a beginner motorcycle and they want you upgrading to a 750GS or 850GS as soon as possible. 😕
6:00 - Fuel capacity. Now THAT'S a problem. It's my only real con on my G310GS. All adventure bikes should have at least a 5 gallon tank. You don't need to fill it if you don't want the weight up high and the added tank volume could be shaped to be wind fairings for the rider's legs. I've almost run out of fuel at least three times and I've been closer to empty than I'd like more times than I can remember. If I wanted range anxiety, I'd have bought into Zero's fantasy of a battery powered ADV bike. I'm implementing a temporary solution. I have two of the one liter Naglene fuel bottles (now discontinued but aluminum fuel bottles will also work) and I recently purchased two black nylon water bottle holders on Amazon for $14 delivered. The plan is to attach them under the rear rack but I may find a place I prefer that's lower, but I don't want them hanging out where they'll snag on stuff riding off road. That'll give me another 30 miles of emergency range. The best place to carry fuel is in the fuel tank, but given the 2.9 gallon fuel tank, this is the best I can do for now. I have dreams of engineering a 1-2 gallon auxiliary tank with a fuel pump. BMW should make a G310GS Adventure, with a 5 gallon fuel tank, and the common ADV upgrades - aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, radiator guard, larger kickstand foot, tubeless spoke wheels, and maybe heated grips and a couple of riding modes.
I'm looking forward to moto camping in 2024. I received my new Hennessy 4 Season Explorer XL Zip hammock last week. It's larger than my Explorer XL that I've had for over ten years but it has integral insulation underneath for comfort on colder nights (I can remove it if I want to save bulk and weight on warm weather trips) and it has a side zipper instead of the classic bottom entry which I found to be problematic when camping in the Hoosier National Forest a month ago in early December. I'm getting too old to crawl up into the hammock and that was made much worse wearing heavy clothes and with a heavy and thick winter sleeping bag. The side zipper will be a lot better when I use poles and pegs to pitch it as an improvised tent when camping where there are no trees.

I’ve owned a 2023 BMW G 310 GS since January 2023. I’ve ridden it herein Florida as well in SE Colorado last spring/ summer. For the money and size the little GS is a winner, and I would not replace it with any other bike its size.
You gave the 310 GS a good review, and kept your comparison on target. While many others have try to compare it with 500 and even 650 cc size motorcycles, and then want to tell us about the 310 downfalls.
If you look at the fit and trim as well as performance, compared to other 300cc adventure motorcycles, it is a winner hands down.
My only dislike: At highway speeds, (65-75 mph) the 310 GS gets blown around by semi-trucks allot more than any of my previous bikes.

just got mine / nice bike / about 250 miles on mine
I've had my G310GS for over three years, with almost 7000 miles on it. I'm still loving it. My only real complaint is the 2.9 gallon fuel tank that should be at least 4 gallons, and 5 gallons would be ideal in my opinion.
I can fully agree with you. There are not many badies, but the clutch is a problem even on biger BMW motorcycles.. but that is not a game breaker.
Gonna be buying this soon as my first motorcycle. Only thing i worry about is how easy it can be to stall. worried about stalling in traffic
No need to worry about that. I have not done that in traffic. just give it a little extra throttle and be smooth on the clutch release. If you release the clutch to quickly is where you will stall. thank you for watching!
The newer models aren’t as easy to stall as the first gen model
Got mine about 4 months ago. First bike I have owned in 25 years, so felt like a total beginner first time I got on it. I spent a few weeks just riding around local neighborhood streets with very little traffic and practiced slow speed figure eights and emergency braking in parking lots. I still practice figure eights and emergency braking as a warm up every time I go for a ride. I'm very comfortable on the bike now and feel confident riding anywhere I go.
I’m not real experienced so the thing with the clutch I can only say is it works fine for me most of the time. I’ve missed gears a time or two but I chock that up to being my fault. What happens is when downshifting from 2nd to 1st it’s missed and the gear shows "-" and I keep shifting it until it gets into 1st gear. One time I was turning and had to coast through while pounding it with my foot. Ever since then I’ve made real sure that I’m in 1st gear before stopping.
I agree with the gas tank being too small. Although I’m one of those putting around and getting 70 mpg. Even so, it should be bigger for all the plastic covering making it look so huge. The gas station in my neighborhood is an old station with old pumps and pay inside. It doesn’t have the collar on the nozzle so I don’t fiddle with that to pump gas. One time I went to Costco and had to figure out how to push that collar back so it would pump gas. Kind of a pain in the ass. So I try to make sure to gas up at my local store.
I wish it had a better screen. Yesterday I went to the store and there was a guy in the parking lot with an 850gs. I parked next to him and we talked for a bit and he showed me all the stuff loaded on his bike. He said he had had a 310gs and loved it too. He was very complimentary of my bike and that’s when I pointed out the screen. His whole dashboard was so cool. I just wish mine came with a few more features. The KTM 390 adv has more stuff. I don’t like them but they do have more features. I know there’s aftermarket stuff to get like heated grips and cruise control but I don’t think you can swap out the screen. The screen on his bike was awesome and had so much information. I’d like to have just some of that. Real easy to read.

Thanks for the comments. the missing gears could be an adjustment with the pedal. I had to do that with my boots that I wear. my biggest motorcycle boots were causing it. I adjusted the gearshift to be higher because I was always missing. once I adjusted it. I have no problem. With the screen, I have seen aftermarket add one that show a lot more and in color. but I haven't really looked into them. As always. thanks for watching!
I'm OK with the simple monochrome LCD on the G310GS. It has almost all of the information I want and is easy to read in varying lighting conditions. It's definitely the budget model compared to the big bright TFT displays, but honestly, I don't spend much time admiring the screen. I overcompensated by adding a 9" Samsung tablet on the handlebars to function as a large GPS, although it's very handy to have the bike charge a general purpose Android tablet while I ride so I can use it for web browsing when I have WiFi, playing music or video when winter camping and I turn in at 8 PM because it's cold and dark and I don't want to go to sleep that early, or to use as a book reader, or to play audio books or music in the hammock. I mounted it on top of a Pelican 1060 waterproof hard case that I use as a glove compartment in lieu of a tank bag.
My next baby GS user interface upgrade will be a front and rear digital video recorder with the display mounted above the instrument panel in my scan view, where most people put their GPS, permanently displaying the wide angle rear view so I can maintain 360 degree situational awareness. I deliberately put my GPS below my scan view to keep me from fixating on it when I should be watching where I'm riding and keeping an eye on the homicidal cagers.
I absolutely love 2023 310gs. I use it mostly for commuting in London.
Big enough to clear traffic, small enough to filter through traffic.

I really like this motorcycle! It’s beautiful and perfect in every aspect! The only thing stopping me is that people say it’s cheaply made and not an actual bmw, but a TVS. Do you think it’s really reliable ? I have a 2017 Yamaha r3 and I’m thinking about selling it and getting this one instead.

Honestly, it's a great bike. tvs might have assembled it but bmw has a final say. they would not let their name be jeopardized for the quality. I love it, no issues and I would buy it again. This motorcycle has so much more to offer than the r3, you can take it off road and onroad. I would recommend it as a first bike over and over and that's coming from a vrf800. it's more fun. hope that helps. please consider subscribing if you haven't. I have my little GS since 2022 and I`ve never have that fake neutral thing... I had a BAJAJ Dominar that always did that and I hated... but never in my G310GS... The only thing that I don't like is the real highway speed... I wish it could get more speed! but that's everything I don't like, I love my baby GS and I really, really like it! I still have one year until I will be able to change it and I will get a F750 or F800, just for the final speed...I am going just to reach 10,000 Kms (6300 mil) with it... amazing bike.

I have to ride everyday in highway speed and every month I travel to Mexico City… that’s the place when I wish it has more final speed… if I could keep both bikes I would keep it! And that’s a shame! It’s so nimble and light.

2023 BMW G310GS, 220 original miles. I’ve added 300 in 2 weeks, so currently 520 miles total. Bike rides fine, shifts fine. Not spark knocking, no misfire, no discernible issue. In genuine neutral full roll back and forth, 93 octane gas, idling at 1,500 rpm, slight free rev to 3,000. On the rpm fall the bike will stall. The ‘23 should have the low rpm anti-lean tune along with the “automatic” high idle. Why in the world after a couple of super light free revs in genuine neutral would this thing be stalling out? I get it’s a single cylinder with a wide bore and short stroke but come on. The bike is brand new and it’s stalling after free rev in neutral?!?
that is weird. I haven’t heard that happen. It only usually stalls when it’s in gear. I would take it to the shop for them to look at it.
As a BMW 310GS owner for over 3k miles now, I can say my favorite thing about the bike is that its just fun to ride. For me, the rider position is about as optimal as it can get for me on a motorcycle (I did add bar risers though). I ride about 50-50 road to off road. The power is smooth making easy to handle in the trails. I have a dual sport bike in addition to the 310. I have been very reluctant to ride it since buying the BMW. Add to this a 3yr 36k mile warranty and low maintenance intervals. Oh, and the price!!

What are your thoughts on putting more of a dual sport tire on there. The Forest roads I ride on have a lot of river bed rocks and gravel if recently applied, can be 2-3" thick. My XT250 Yamaha handles in well but I need something a little better to get me to and from those mountain roads.
Problems with mine are false neutral, or missed neutral. Chain became very loose after some off roading, so I tightened up slightly tighter than recommended and it shifts great now! I would like to find some hand gaurds that actually fit and good wind screen that doesn't catch so much cross winds.
my chain stretched a little when new. the tech that serviced said I must be rough on it in the dirt lol. the windshield I have works good. for handguards get some bark busters. Thanks for watching!

What I like about this bike is the engine in built in Taiwan by Kymco as is the BMW Maxi scooter and have been since day one of these engines. Kmyco sells a machine every 55 sec's world wide.

I'm between this bike or cbr500x. It would be my first bike but a lot of people talk about vibration in single cilinder bikes. What do you think?
honestly if you have ridden any other motorcycle, they all vibrate. this one is a single so it might vibrate a little more, but I can say it's not even noticable. there's rubber on the foot pegs that helps too. I look at the cb but I ended up going with the baby gs because I think you can do a lot more. if you look at all my videos you can see that it's capable of anything. I personally love it. I have a bigger bike that collects dust now. Ive owned 6 motorcycle and this is my favorite! let me know if you have any questions

Are you getting any shifting problems 2/3
Hi, I do not have any problems with those gears. I did have issues with the shifting when I went to bigger adventure Moto boots. I had to adjust the shift lever (located at your left foot) so it would engage better. I adjusted the lever up to fit my boots better. Now I have no issues. It has to do with spacing in between gears. I found the issue on a google search. Hope this helps
I fitted Rally Raid 2 upgrade to my 2018, suspension is now perfect.
Demand your neutral indicator is fixed. Very poor service mechanic.

Hi, I bought the bike (pre-owned, 1k miles) with Rally Raid front & rear full suspension upgrade fitted. The straight talking, respected, experienced Nathan Millward of Dorothy's Speedshop fitted the RR suspension upgrade to his G310GS. He states 'the RR upgrade totally transforms the bike'. Talk to the guys at Rally Raid, it's a small, highly successful family business, I'd guess they can help exploring the lowest cost freight pricing. Bestest.
I have a 2022 310GS bought new with almost 4,000 miles. I bought it to downsize and do some light off roading. Only problem i have had is a leaking water pump seal replaced under warranty. One pure dislike I have is the loud annoying intake honk due to the air intake horn being located beside the gas tank at the front. Poor design. Other improvement needed, Fork springs are way too soft, gas tank capacity needs 1 more gallon, seat is stepped and restricts movement, and engine needs to be a 400/450 cc.
Yes those would be some good changes I am looking at stiffer springs, but am ok with those for now. maybe down the road. thanks for contributing to the discussion and for watching!
I rode mine for a year and a half. Did about 5000 miles. I had issues with the batteries. Three died! I fitted a battery monitor and kept an eye on their health after the second one. BMW investigated it and said it was charging fine. And finally, i started to get paint flaking behind the front wheel, which was disappointing. But, it got stolen three weeks ago and written off, so now deciding it I buy another 310GS!
wow that's the first I have heard about the battery. I wonder what that was about. supposedly they are doing some things for new 2025. so you may want to wait. I don't have any specific information but it's due for some changes. Thank you for watching!

Why are you in N at a stop ? Be in 1st foot on the break . None of the 310s I have ridden do what your gear shift is doing ,
If you're trying to get off of your motorcycle, like putting it away you tend to put it in neutral. it you let go and you think its in neutral. it moves forward. just trying to let people know. I had a lot of people say it happens to them. so you're lucky!
fair point , and yes the 310 N is very hard to find which is why i just pull in the clutch and move mine around. Agree with you that is not normal, car and bikes should not fake N @@Sasqmoto
Honestly, only watched a couple of minutes. Bought a new 2022 almost 3 months ago. I ride all street, 60+ mph and I get 73 mpg. I'm 275 lbs riding weight. I have 2k miles on it.
The seat was very uncomfortable and restrictive IMO. Problem solved with Airhawk R seat cushion. Added a tall windshield, thick foam grips, raised the shift lever and more so the the brake pedal, Zumo XT gps, trunk & tank bag, and I'm good to go!

With the Versys, don't the valves need to be checked and adjusted every 7,500 miles?
You need to relocate the microphone, because you have a very loud motorcycle and so its difficult to hear you speaking.

Sounds good to me, i like hearing that engine.
Not liked:
Non adjustable brake pedal/switch/rear master cylinder link. (Not fixable.)
26 bolts (or so) to change the air filter. (Grrrrr)
Air intake er...'honks' in your helmet at mid range. (Mostly a result of engine design.)
Gas Tank is 1 gallon too small. (BMW should have fixed that, otherwise carry extra fuel.)
Weak suspension. (Fixable with money.)
Poor water pump design. (Not fixable.)
Poor Kickstand design. (Not fixable.)
Poor kickstand 'switch design'. (Take it off and re-locate the switch terminal.)
Engine is 50 cc's too small... needed to be a 350 cc or so. (Not fixable.)
Didn't put a display reset switch on the handlebar. (Wire one in or just reach up to the console.)
Poorly designed footpegs. (Fixable... yeah, spend money.)
Should have had a 21" wheel on the front. (21" wheel from F650... costs money tho.)
A pain to disassemble the rear section to change turn signals etc etc. (Not fixable.)
Liked:
Good frame design, has proper ground clearance.
Bike handles really good for it's design.
Most of the bike is built heavy enough to take a 500 cc engine.
Cast wheels are heavy and hold up well to abuse.
Engine, while too small... is willing to produce power with a twist of the wrist.
Sit down in the frame, very comfortable riding position.
All in all, it is just like a smaller BMW.

Valid points, but if BMW had given it about an extra 200CC, better suspension, a bigger fuel tank, spiked wheels etc it would’ve been close to a ‘unicorn’ bike and eaten into the sale of their mid-capacity bikes haha.
