There's another musician I like who does kind of similar music. Maybe you've heard of him, maybe not but just on case he's called Seasick Steve. I think he's great anyway. He's known for playing either homemade guitars or really crumby guitars.

I've been a fan of Joanna's for 30 years. We are the same age and both born on the same day, and both play guitar. She's absolutely awesome on the slide guitar.

@@jong0000 Same here. I also saw her at the old Back Room, in Delray two or three times. She had her children with her once. She worked hard during those years.
And I wasn't a fan of hers, I hadn't even heard of her, but now everything has changed. This is very tasty music.
This video is a great example of why Blues is best experienced in a live environment.

I was a radio DJ in the early/mid 80s. I had a blues show, and a good library to pick from. Joanna Connor was there.
She was not this good back then. Not even close. But GOD DAMN she has grown into the music, and it's so good to hear this. One of the best on the planet.
Same here but the early Nineties, I had my own Blues show on the local college station and was amazed at the local talent in Chicago. Then I got stuff from the west and west coast. Wow. Mark Hummel, Little Ed, William Clarke, Little Charley. A lot of great Musicians who never get air time .
People do get better if they don't rest on their laurels. Elvin Bishop is a perfect example. He has to sit down half his set anymore, but he plays phenomenally better than he did at 25, and clearly enjoys it. Comes off simple and folksy but he's a Rhodes Scholar like Bill Clinton...

I don't even consider myself a blues fan but she is so fun to watch! I have seen this video dozens of time and I don't get tired of it. There is something about watching someone do something that they just love to do that is exciting; at least sometimes (bowling being an exception ;-).

I grew up being taken to see a lot of the more prominent blues and folk artists of the day perform, including Mississippi John Hurt, and have lived through the entire proliferation of white blues artists that we have seen since the Sixties. I think back to all those English "living legends" of the blues who had "Paid Their Dues" with a certain degree of amusement. I never heard of this babe before-- Lake County, California is, um, culturally deprived (euphemism--we're so poor nobody comes here to play anymore). But this lady puts every one of those British poseurs (and their American imitators) totally under the table. I am one hundred per cent totally gobsmacked. This lady knows something about God, or she could not play like that.
