This is my first vlog of 2019. I came down with a case of Man Flu :) just after Christmas and it knocked me for six! I'm back to my normal self so it's all systems go for the year ahead!
Last week I met up with Jason Jones for a collaboration in North Wales. I met up with Jason last year but the weather was so bad we couldn't actually vlog. Third time lucky as they say!
Jason took charge and suggested we visit Watkins Path / Falls. I hadn't heard of the place so I took Jason's lead. I certainly wasn't disappointed.
The Watkin Pass was originally created as a Donkey path. The path forms one of the many routes to Snowdon. To say the route is very scenic is a gross understatement. It really is picturesque! It's a photographers dream! Having said that, if you want to shoot the un-obvious you'll need your wits about you. Personally, I thought the area looked a little industrial. That's probably just because of the Slate fencing. It all looks amazing and I certainly didn't want my comments to seem negative. I suppose the best way of describing the pass is it's one of these amazing places where you visit time and time again and shoot something different every time! I love it!
A massive thank you to Jason for looking after me for the day. Cheers pal.
THANK YOU
Gary

An excellent example of how to dissect what is in front of you to obtain what were great images. lateral and vertical panoramas especially impressive.
Glad to see you are feeling better Gary, as always superb shots and a glimpse into your though process in creating these images.

Great to see you back and that you still have your sense of humour - take it easy though and keep on recovering. Great images, especially the landscape orientation panorama.
Great video and some beautiful images, look forward to the next one.

Great video Gary as always, glad you are all better now. Loved the images especially the waterfall images, I'm a real sucker for a waterfall.
Nice explanations of your works, thanks Gary!
Hi Gary, as you explored the area around the scene got better every time. I like the panorama and the waterfall with all the surroundings certainly it looks like a painting when viewed here on YOU-TUBE. Cheers.

Some awesome pictures and great advice with finding that composition. Thanks

Great video Gary. I always appreciate your advice. I hope you feel better soon!
I stumbled across this through the youtube wormhole that we sometimes get ourselves in. Glad I did, really enjoyed the way you describe the compositions and the thought processes to get a shot. Looking forward to watching the other videos.
Brilliant to see both of you together. Kettle is on, time to sit back and enjoy!
Introverted Pixels - a beer sounds better 😁 hope you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Beautiful location. Beautiful shots
Good video Gary, good to see you posting vlogs again 👍
Great to have you back. I was beginning to wonder what had happened since a few months back I think you said you were intending to put out more frequent content (including when things don't go well).
I particularly love the first pano portrait shot, but was surprised you left as much sky in it with so little going on in that part of the image. Keep up the great work!
nice to have you back and well Gary, allways love the vlogs and photos and chat, thank you
You're absolutely right, Gary. That was a fantastic, fantastic Vlog.

So good to see you back Gary! I am sure I speak for all your followers, we've missed your inspirational vlogs. I keep forgetting the vertical pano, will definitely give that a go. I love the fall images and your thought process, so helpful. Looking forward to more great vlogs in 2019.

Another great vlog and and some stunning images Gary. Nice to see you out with another great photographer and vlogger.
Beautiful location; beautiful photographs. Thanks as always. Keep on breathing.
Mike in Oz
Pleasant surprise to see you pop up in my mailbox today Gary... The light appeared a bit on the flat side today, despite that you managed some really nice waterfall shots. Last winter I did the pano thing in landscape to create a nice (2) file vertical on snow covered spruce bows below my porch. I had similar lighting conditions too. After post work I printed it off in portrait as a 9 x 16 pano, absolutely stunning... This past Oct. the tree's top was snapped off from extreme wind after standing unscathed for better than 20 years.
I enjoy your approach to getting a composition even when the conditions are not ideal...
Thanks,
Bill on the Hill... :-)
Cheers Bill on the hill :) Very kind as always 👍👍
Awesome Shots Gary
Cheers Paul 👍👍
lovely vlog again Gary (and Jason), get well soon!
Patrick de Flandre - fighting fit again 👍🏻 thank you
Welcome back Gary. Glad to see you’re on the mend. That looked like a great place to shoot even if the light wasn’t the best and you had it all to yourselves it appears. A return trip should be in order when the conditions improve as there looked to be lots of places to point the camera.
Thanks for another enjoyable show Gary. Cheers.
John Sholian - Cheers John 👍🏻
Great vlog Gary. Some incredible shots there. Another location added to must visit list.
Cracking set Gary glad to see you back and looking and feeling well
Thank you Malcolm 👍👍
Amazing vlog Gary, stunning pictures and location, I’d love to come on one of you’re trips to see how it all works, regards mark
Very enjoyable Gary and images were great too. No fun getting the lurgy and good to see you on the mend
scotty4418 - fighting fit again. We’ll sort of 😁 cheers
Nice photos, Gary. I really enjoy moody shots and you captured it well.
Loved the 5 pano shots, amazing
Cheers Trevor 👍
Glad to see your back and better missed the blogs it sure is a lovely area. He should have carried on up to Snowdon there is some super shots this time of the year up there.
Great shoot Gary as always - the image at 14.40 is a stunner - well worth the trip Cheers
Peter Keane - Cheers Peter 👍🏻
Gary,
Glad you're on the mend and left your footprint in the flu's bum. Your vertical pano is a brilliant solution to obtain that striking image.
I believe I've stated before, and it bears repeating, you work a location like few others, realizing that there are opportunities to be found in the "working." That final waterfall composition, could make Gavin Hardcastle (loves waterfalls) slap his Mama!!!
Thank-You,
Mike
Great stuff, mate - really entertaining from start to finish and some interesting insights on composition I'm going to take away and work with next time I'm up that way off the Island! 👍😀
Very kind of you to say Dave but you of all people don't need help from anyone when it comes to compositions. Keep your vlogs coming, I thoroughly enjoy them. Cheers
Gorgeous photos... as always! I subscribe to lots of channels, but you consistently put out top-shelf quality every time. Thank you!
BTW- between your little vlogging camera and myself, I think one of us may have been drinking-- it seemed like you kept rocking back and forth in focus. :-) Really nice video quality, though.
stunning ☺☺
I really like your vlogs!!
Thank you Alex 👍👍
Hello Gary, well done, lots of interesting compositions in a delightful area of Wales...
Cheers Allan 👍👍
Hi Gary, nice blog, loved the virtical panos, thanks for sharing.
All the best..............Peter.
Nice one Gary. It seems that everyone I watch seems to be collaborating with each other. Interesting to see your images come out in a similar way to Jasons :-D
I had a dose! Still coughing so hope your better! No doubt spending it on the Watkin path with Jason would of helped! Not lost your vlogging mojo and compositions skills. Excellent shots and very different to Jason. Great to see both approaches. 10:40 pano 👌 14:52 belters 😊👍
excellent vlog gary well done for getting out
Thank you Mark 👍👍
I can’t believe you walked into the cold water that has got to be dangerous. If your wet and cold in them places. At least you had Jason with you. Love love love the photos though well worth getting wet for hahaha
Cheers Paul. No pain no gain :)
Great video
Thank you 👍👍
Thanks for your insight! Looking into an M50 as my first canon
Nice Anna. I would go for the 5D MKIV but it's a personal choice. Thank you 👍
Superb images Gary glad you both got together, been waiting for the collab for ages lol. Shame about the sky, I take it the sunrise didn't happen then.
Hi Gary great vlog as usual
Spent a lot of my youth in Snowdonia
Sent you an Email recently but haven’t heard from you

Fighting fit at last. Cheers, Neil. I replied to it 👍👍
Some great shots there. Glad to see you back! ( new gloves?)
Your a brave man Gary it looked cold, really liked the shots & compositions, thanks for sharing the experience, hope the cough clears up?
Fighting fit again Trevor, cheers 👍👍
Nothing wrong with your craftmanship as a photographer Gary. Great photowork, but... the sky...! Still: a good vlog. Thnx.
paulus0109 - thank you very much 👍🏻
Great neck of the world Gary, back up there in march . Hope to meet up with jason
You'll have a great day David. Let me know when you're heading that way. I might see you there 👍
👍
Good to see you out and about again. So did Santa drop you a new drone down the chimney? mind knowing your luck you would have the fire on! 🤦♂️👍👍👍
I live in the US. I’m curious about why so many good landscape photographers are British. In the film era, I read everything I could get by Barry Thornton. He was obviously a fine photographer from the UK, but not the only one. There are so many Brits who go out in gloomy weather and make fine photographs. Why do so many Brits excel at this? I live in the Pacific Northwest. The weather here is a lot like your weather, but I don’t see a lot of photographers enjoying it.
I'm not entirely sure why that is. Come to think of it, I don't see many Landscape Photographers coming from the US at all. Strange. You can be the first :) You can be the US version of Thomas Heaton :)
Loved the waterfall images. Glad your back. Can I ask what brand of gloves you were wearing.
Lovely video, Gary. Sorry to hear you had the flu; It hit me in a similar way a year ago. I remember sitting at my computer with four layers and a hot water bottle by my chest, a hat and a scarf with a fever of 103 and felt like I was freezing. Did you go black & white on any of these images? Also, as you mentioned prints, can you give advice on a Vlog about how to start selling prints. Maybe there isn't a magic formula, but any advice on how to start would be much appreciated.
Clear and concise as usual Gary, the image at 12.26 (5 shot pano of the waterfall) is my favourite...did you need to refocus for each of 5 shots..thanks in advance.
Gary, I have barely heard you because of that river ;(.
I AM lazy, lol. I ain't getting up at 5 or 6 am to take a photograph. LOL. Actually, I'm joking. I have a disabled wife and daughter, so it takes more planning for me to go and do. Mornings and late evenings aren't possible for me, for many reasons. I envy the freedom to go out during the best times; a I am mostly out in the middle of the day.
Gary you have had the flu with two weeks out of action now your in north wales in freezing conditions!! you have been in the water now you say you feel cold and no hat?? I am not your mother but take more care!!! What are we going to do for inspiration if you snuff it.
