I saw a debate where one guy claimed he wasn't a hall of famer. Yes, he threw a lot of pics. Yes, his record was .500 (yet, .667 in the playoffs). But he rarely had a great team, and he STILL led two teams to Super Bowl championships.. over the New England dynasty. He's a NFL Hall of Famer in my book.

The two times he had a great team he got them all the way to 1st place. He did it without big talent guys like OBJ or Saquon. The teams had defense and solid lines. His .500 career record is not true; it's tainted by being in the worst organization for 3 consecutive years. He's a 1st ballot beyond a shadow of a doubt.

@eoe123321 it IS the best throw in Super Bowl history. The play before, NFL Films caught Belicheck tellig his defense it was a " Cruz & Nicks " game. Basically insinuating that we had no other weapons. He left Manningham in single coverage and it cost he and New England the Super Bowl.

Safety came down to help out his cornerback, but Eli placed that ball in the tiniest of places, where it is either a catch or an incomplete pass. Mario caughts it, but to be honest the throw is far more impressive than the catch. As he is securing the ball he gets nailed by both players. What a play, but more importantly, what a throw! The greatest throw ever in my opinion
That was one of the best throws I've ever seen. The scenario makes it even bigger.
I gotta say, as a Giants fan, I was never mad at Eli. If he had had a good o-line his last few seasons and a more consistent defense, he would have done a lot more damage. But he did his best with what he had.
He QB'd two teams to a Super Bowl victory. He easily provided more than most QBs ever will for their respective teams.
His greatest season statistically was 2015 and yet didn't come close to getting to the postseason even though the Offense was a scoring machine. Think about how Eli was blamed and Tom Coughlin took the fall for Jerry Reeses(intentional! ?)neglect of the defense so he had an excuse to put Ben Mcadoo (who was fired soon after with Reese) in charge.The Giants have yet to recover.
@@joeconner2231 the defense was trash in 2015 and the run-game wasn't there either. That's why they didn't come close to the postseason.
@Harry Engel he was a top 10 pocket passer of all time. His arm strength and accuracy was top tier and the fact that he was pressured so often negatively effects his stats and legacy. He threw picks due to lack of protection, lack of a solid run game, and (at the end of his career) lack of WR release/separation. If you put Eli behind Brady, Romo/Dak, Brees, or Peyton’s O-Line, he would no doubt have had half as many INTs and a lot more TDs.
Just count the amount of these highlights were under pressure vs clean pocket and you’ll appreciate Eli a lot more than you probably do.

@@Kevooo Let's put this in perspective. In 2007, with 1:30 to go in the game, Eli had a 74 passer rating vs a guy that averaged 117 over 16 games and the Giants were still in it because????? Brady was averaging over 3 TDs per game (not to mention the other 18 rushing TDs by the Patriots) and then managed only 1 in the SB and that was because of Eli? Please tell me that the light is going on here.

@@markgh2491 Eli was carried. Not one of those teams that "he beat" did do any better than 7 points below their season average. All 8. That's a near impossibility and he still needed lucky plays for the Giants to barely win five of those. Almost any QB can beat teams being held to an average 15.1 points.
I love this man. He made you crazy at times, but he was as tough as they come and as clutch as they come. I'll never forget the rides he took us on in 2007 and 2011. Forever my favorite QB and the best NYG QB ever.
Actually, in the 4th quarter, his 83.8 passer rating was already below his below average career passer rating of 84.1. In the final 2 minutes, he was just as likely to throw a TD as an interception, 22 for both.
Coming through in a drive once or twice simply because the defense kept him in the game against all odds, does not make a clutch QB. If even an average Patriots team showed up either time, Eli's 17 and 19 points are blowouts.

Eli was literally a below average QB. In 16 years, he had a top 10 passer rating once and the only QB stat he ever led in was interceptions.

Without the defense holding multiple pro bowl QBs to one of their worst games of they year, Eli didn't have a chance.
In fact, those defense held the opposition to an average of 15.1 points per game, none over 20, and an opposing passer rating of 74. What QB cannot win against that?
Eli still barely managed to win 5/8 games. And in the 2 overtime wins, in overtime Eli was a combined 3/7, 17 yards, 1 sack for -10, so 7 attempts went 7 yards, and he was given credit for 2 game winning drives even when he literally did nothing for it. He didn't even take his team past the 50 yard line either time.
And that last statement very accurately describes Eli's career. He got credit for all the good (even if it literally was not him) and great headlines and when he screwed up, someone else was blamed.

Watch these highlights and count the amount of pressured throws vs clean pocket throws... that is why Eli is overlooked as one of the game’s greats. He was a top 10 most talented pocket passer ever, he just hardly ever had time to throw the ball.
Maybe he didn't have time to throw the ball because no one was afraid of him and could commit to rushing/trying for a sack.
@@tomknapp6194 it's moreso his receivers struggled to create separation unless they ran deep routes which took too long to develop and outside of maybe 06, 07, 08, his running backs weren't a screen threat out of the backfield so linebackers could just freely blitz him. He would end up throwing into coverage or his receiver would fumble the ball in the air and get picked. The team construction around him, and particularly the o-line was mediocre at best for much of his career.

Below average QB carried and handed the MVP by the defense both times. Eli's 17 and 19 points were not nearly enough to compete with the Patriots average either time.

The 7th all time yards and TDs is a function of longevity, not actually being good. His TD % is about 70th all time and his yards/attempt is around 90th. He has high totals because he threw a lot, not because he was good.

Now, let's look at some other things from his 16 year career:

In fact, his average passer rating ranking is 18th.
Never led in yards, TDs, yards/attempt, TD %, or passer rating, but.....
3x interception leader. Only 1 QB in the last 20 years had more in a single season.

Never beat a playoff team that scored more than 20 points.
In his 16 years, 9 times his passer rating was below average. 5 of the 7 times it was over, it was by 3.8 or less, or basically still just average. He literally had 2 in 16 years in which he was somewhat above average.
Does that really sound like a HoF QB? All his best achievements are basically smokescreens when you look at the details. He was nothing special.

There have been only three instances of a starting QB beating three 13-win teams in a single postseason: Eli Manning (2011), Eli Manning (2007), and Ben Roethlisberger (2005).
Eli Manning's 2011 playoff run might be the greatest QB play off all time across 4 games. I can't think of another 4 game sample by any QB in history. Espically when you consider that he was on the road.
Seriously? What did Eli do against the 49ers? Half of his points were scored on fumbled punts. Outside of that, he crossed midfield 2 times in 15 drives. Then both Rodgers and Brady (both pro bowl QBs) had to have one of their worst games of the entire season for Eli to win. Face, it in 2007 if even an average Romo, Favre, Brady, and then in 2011 Rodgers and Brady again show up, almost every single one of those are blowouts. Remember Eli never beat a single playoff team that scored more than 20 points. That sounds like he rode the coattails of the defense both times.
2011 Superbowl postseason run finished with a 65% completion percentage and with an NFL record 1219 passing yards and with a touchdown to interception ratio of 9-1. Names Superbowl MVP and outplayed Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers who were 15-1 that year, the best defense in the league with the 49ers and then beat the new England Patriots and Tom Brady when they were in their prime and he rode coat tails? Lol the giants defense was ranked like 16th that year. Ranked 7th all time in passing yards and touchdowns and in 2011 has set the NFL record at the time with 15 4th quarter touchdowns. You're obviously a casual but just wanted to remind you with stats that no matter how much it may hurt your little feelings Eli Manning should and will get into the HOF whether you like it or not.

Some things to consider, who has a better chance for more yards, a QB that plays 3 or 4 games? The best QBs usually have a bye, so they have no chance at 4 games. So, let's be fair and compare the average yards/game for all QBs that had 3 or 4 games. That just seems fair and if Eli was as great as you think you should have no problem with this.
But, you should. Eli's average yards isn't even in the top 10. He's 14. His yards/attempt are 19th. Once again, compiled stats from a lot of attempts, not skill.
Brady was within 100 yards of break that. Twice. In 3 games. Multiple QBs almost had the same total in 4 games... With about 30 fewer attempts.
This is just another aspect of Eli's career that sounds really good as a headline, but once the stats are examine, it isn't nearly as good as expected.
He's literally a below average QB that was carried by the defense. There is nothing special about that.

I've been presented with many headlines about Eli that are extremely misleading when the facts are examined. And then I'm called a hater for present 100% fact.
Was Eli below average? Absolutely. He may have top 10 totals all time, but both his yards/attempt and TD percentage aren't even in the top 70. He basically just had a lot of chances for below average results. Given enough time, even that does add up. Put me in long enough and no matter how bad I am, I'll have top 10 totals also.
I actually have a comparison of Eli vs 15 average QBs comparing their completion percentage, yards/attempt, TD %, interception percentage, and passer rating. The best Eli does is 8th in one and not even in the top 10 for the other 4 categories. In fact, his passer rating is dead last. He is literally not even top 10 among a list of 16 average QBs. Safe to say that he's below average.
Did he get lucky twice? Absolutely. But, he's not good and he should never be in the HoF.
Sure, he didn’t have the best stats, but this man has won 2 superbowls and beat Tom Brady in both of them. He deserves the hall of fame for that accomplishment alone. No other Qb in NFL history can say they’ve beaten the goat twice in the Super Bowl.
Eli's HOF candidacy isn't just rings. It's his 50000+ yards, 300+ TD passes (both top 10 all time), iron man streak, being the franchise quarterback of a marquee franchise, and his fantastic moral character. He is easily a HOFer. Not first ballot most likely but 2nd - 4th or so. At the end of the day, he'll have a bust alongside his brother Peyton sooner rather than later.

@Derek Savage 90% ass..? Have you looked his stats? Dude went to playoffs in 4 years in a row, -05, 06, -07 and -08. They won the superbowl in -07. So they got a good run in theit division those years, he was playing good qb play. He went to pro bowls in -08, -11, -12 and -15. -08 and -11 he was probowl playoffs qb, and -11 he won another sb. And after those he went to playoffs again at -16.
So he led his team to playoffs or was pro bowl qb in 8 of his 16 years. 2 of those years he was both of them at the same time, and 2 of those years he won a superbowl and superbowl MVP. Half of his career, by these stats, he has been top qb, and he has the rings to show it. Im not going to any other stats at this point, I will go through them if you want
He will be hall of famer, but in my opininion, it might take time for him to get in.

@Derek Savage I give you, the interceptions were bad. But that is the only category where he is average in my opinion. It was not terrible, it was not great. He averaged 15,25 ints per season, Brady avereges 9,21.
(Btw, I am using Bradys 19 seasons, because he was hurt in 2008.)
But Manning in this category, Manning is better than modern era hall of fame qb Favre, who avereged 16,8 ints per season. I am only comparing this Manning stat to Favre, to prove that his interceptions were not totally awfull. There is not much where Manning was better than Favre.
Also about sacks, Brady is averaging more sacks than Manning did. Brady is averaging 26.32 sacks a season, Manning had 25.69. It is not much, but it is better than what Brady has at this point. For context, Favre had average 26.25 sacks per season.
Rest of the major qb stats, Manning is in top 10. Yes, he has not been the best or defining player in his years of playing. But that is because of the competition. Peyton, Brees, Brady and Big Ben. And despite the competition, he managed to win 2 sb's with 2 MVP's.
You cant say that hall of fame is only for those players who defined the position. You can not say that you must be better than the guys who are already in.

Hall of fame is for players who made a mark in history of the NFL. Manning is one of the few who has multiple super bowl wins and SB MVP's.
You can have your opinion, but for me, when you look Mannings full body of work, he will be hall of famer and he deserves it. Maybe not first ballot, but he will get in.

The Giants had wasted the sencond half of his career, treated him very badly and did not give him a chance to win. Even though he wasn't given a chance to win. He is one of the few players to multiple Super Bowl MVP awards. In 2011-12 he posted on the the very best QB seasons ever 4,933 yards, plus the most passing yards in a single post-season (1,219). Third on tht list for most passing yard in a season including the playoffs, 8 game winning drives (6 in the regular season, 2 in the playoffs), 15 4th Quarter TD's (was an NFL record) and etc. He broke so many records in 2011-12! How people say that this man of not HOF QB is just stupid. He is literally a top 10 QB of all time, the stats don't lie!

Actually, stats can lie if not put in perspective. Top 10 yards and TDs? Rodgers passed Eli in both categories. In 1,000 fewer attempts. Stafford is about to do the same in about 500 fewer attempts. Eli's TD % (Tds/100 attempts) isn't even in the top 70 all time. His yards per attempt are.... Well, the list I was looking at only went up to 90 and no Eli.
15 TDs in the 4th quarter? That's great! What did he do the rest of the game. Oh, that's right, only 14 other more TDs through 75% of the games he played.
1,219 yards in a postseason? Playing 4 games will do that. Brady came within 100 yards of breaking that. Twice. In 3 games. If he had 4 games, it would have been easy, but he had a first round bye and had no chance for a 4th game. Multiple other QBs were close on dozens of fewer attempts. In fact, let's take the average of any QB that played 3 or 4 games and Eli is not longer #1. He's not even top 10. He's 14. And his yards/attempt are 19th.
Once again, just throwing a lot does not make a great QB.
Eli's entire career is a huge smokescreen of great headlines that are half truths at best. But, once the facts are examined, he suddenly becomes below average.

When Eli was switched on there was no doubt that he was one of the top qb's in the league. 27 4th quarter comebacks and 37 game winning drives over his career says a lot, especially when you played most of your career with a crappy o-line.

Even though I am not a Giants fan, Eli Manning was the biggest reason why I loved watching the Giants growing up (I am a Jets fan BTW). He gave every down and every play his heart, soul, and effort. He also embodied and personified class and professionalism. He was not only my favorite Giants player growing up, but also, one of my favorite pro athletes growing up.

So many great memories. The team has never had elite receivers, but Eli elevated their play to elite levels when the team needed to step up. Eli was as stable as they come, keeping the team moving forward during times of doubt. To even think of Eli during the playoffs, is to speak of a great player who was as elite as they get, putting the offense on his back so to lift that trophy. He is a top 5 Giant.
