    Hi Linus and the crew.
    I want to thank you.
    Thank you for being so open and actually listening to your fans.
    Thank you for making these videos, they make me happy even on bad times or when things dont work.
    Ive always been a tech guy- thats how I came to your channel, but you guys made me stay for the community, the quality, and the hard work that you put into it.
    So next year Im going to start studying software development, and even if I dont have time to watch your videos regularly- I will still look up for when I have time to watch a video or tune in to the WAN show.
    Thank you once again.
    Peace

    Man I remember when the EVO from HTC was all I wanted! It's really nice to see the market more saturated with great smartphone options. We've already seen how all these phones prompt companies to bring more affordable options to the market. Awesome video! Keep being an inspiration!

      If I remember right, the EVO 3D was basically a Sensation with the 3D technology added to it in a new body right? If so, how is yours still alive? My Sensation died after about 6 months (at the end of its life, the camera was covered in green lines, it frequently got too hot to hold, and had a standby time of 4 hours)!

      James Micklewright I have the same problems, but I really don't use it much, if at all. Other than the problems you mentioned, it works fine. I actually ruined the digitizer ribbon cable about 4 months after I got it and I never got around to replacing the entire part until after a year, and since then it's performed its basic functions well. I honestly have no idea how it's managed to last me this long (although I'm probably answering my own question when I say that it's under very limited use so...)

    For me HTC has never been gone, I've owned one since they began using Android... I will pick a HTC over a Samsung any day when it comes to build quality and overall feel. Yes Samsung has managed to use higher end hardware and camera's but that's not what it is all about. The major fail on HTC's part is their marketing, not because of bad phones. Honestly if I look at at the major Android smartphone brands; LG, Motorola, Huawei, HTC, Samsung & Sony... I've never understood why Samsung is the most popular judging by the phones, it's all marketing that made them big.

    No OLED screen?
    Pink hue?
    No switchable battery?
    Not waterproof?
    They were so close. Why is it so hard to construct the perfect phone?

    • @SenorJC
      @SenorJC Před 8 lety +22

      Well idk about the screen choice but as for the waterproofing and battery they probably didn't wanna sacrifice speaker audio by making it waterproof since speaker audio quality has always seemed to be HTC signature feature and the non-switchable battery is likely an aesthetic choice in order to maintain the quality metal unibody design of the M-series. I mean 3000mah is pretty solid already but the fast charging issues kinda cancels out the positives of that...

    • @kjaesp
      @kjaesp Před 8 lety +10

      The best thing about a switchable battery is that batteries are usually the first thing that break (unless you keep dropping your phone like linus does) and thus you can just buy a new one ezpz.

      Hardware capacitive buttons, non-removable battery, lack of forward-facing stereo sound. If they had stuck the power button and volume rocker opposite one another so you can never press one without accidentally pressing the other, it would be every bit as bad as a Samsung phone.

  • @BadManiac
    @BadManiac Před 8 lety +6

    I've had the HTC 10 since launch, and while I agree with most of your review, I have to disagree with your screen pinkness problem. At work (large IT department) we've compared my HTC 10 to a S6 edge, S7, S7 Edge and iPhone 6, and everyone agrees the HTC has the best screen, it has the best contrast, most vivid colors and is easily the sharpest overall screen of the bunch. And mine doesn't have the pink tint yours has at all. HTC 10 for me has the best screen, the best sound and the best camera of all the current "flagships", and I've been able to test them all side by side. That's my few cents anyway.

    My very first smart phone was the HTC Desire HD and, for a 10 year old me, it was absolutely amazing. I could play all the latest games on it, it had a 720p camera on the back and it was nearly unbeatable for the time. I had the phone for 3/4 years (the longest I've ever had a phone) before switching to an iPhone 5. I was so in love with the phone until HTC decided to cut it off at Android 2.0, even though it was capable of running Android 4.0. There are now some great and very skilled programmers who have made it possible for that amazing phone to run on even Android Lollipop. My Dad took it into its own hands to bring life back to this phone, which he was very successful in doing. He used it until October of last year when both my Dad and I got ourselves a OnePlus 2 as our daily driver.
    HTC has always had a place for me and the Desire HD is a phone I'll never forget :')

  • @flyingspacemasterchief242

    Reason why I went with the HTC 10 vs the S7, it wasn't made out of glass. The reason why I never went with an iPhone was because of the glass backs. I don't like finger print magnets the S7 is, and the one time I might drop the phone is the time it can shatter. You can say put a case on it, but that defeats the argument for build quality.
    The HTC 10 is built like a tank, and I feel like if I wanted to I can take the phone outside and not worry about the phone if I drop it on it's back.

    HTC customer service is a 10/10 for me. I got my phone soaked, it broke, sent it in and had it back within a week with no questions asked. phone had a dead spot in a screen so I sent it back and got it back with in another week. all free, no questions asked. phone is amazing, never had a single problem. the phone may not be the very top in every category, but it performs amazingly, great pictures, charges fast and gets what I need it to do done.

    I got an HTC One E8 about a year and a half ago and really enjoy it. It's the cheaper version of the M8 so it sacrifices some of luxury features and components such as the camera and metal finish but it has a nice screen and some nice horse power. It's great for gaming and video watching, which is is exactly what I do on it and why I wanted it.

    I got a HTC 10. The phone wasn't even sold in the store by my provider at several locations. Ordering it was a possibility but it was on back order until august. I ordered from HTC directly and save 100 bucks. I like how they took some of the best features and put it in the phone.
    It sips power compared to my G4 which is good for pokemon go and the fast charger means I can give the power bank to my wife so she can charger her Samsung phone longer. literally plugged it in for one minute and gained 4 percent charge.
    Actual Tactile buttons which are reachable on the phone is a plus.
    Almost stock android experience without the bloat of fancy, over flamboyant interface that is a waste of milliseconds and power.
    The fingerprint sensor is really good with only a few time I need to use my code in order to sign in due to finger misplacement.
    The overall symmetric design with both the charger and the head phone jack with that on top is great. It's not on the bottom which means your phone is upside down in the pocket getting link in the charger but also it causes premature failure of the head phones when you rest your phone on the bed or lap when listening to music and surfing the web.
    What it could be is more water resistant but I dont care for a changeable chin bar buttons to accommodate people who are use to Samsung devices (linus). Changeable gestures would be good too but they have an app for that. Maybe a IR selfy log in system like what is found on the Surface Book would be a nice quick sign in system other than the finger print sensor.

    I loved this phone for 2 weeks. Had to take it back and ended up getting a Galaxy S7. The 10 is a better phone for me but the problem I had with it was ring tones only played from that bottom speaker when I got calls. That's a problem for me for work. I couldn't hear the phone ring in my pocket at all even with the "ring louder in your pocket" setting turned on. At one point I missed a call because I couldn't hear it over the sound of the faucet running while washing my hands, even though it was on the counter next to me on MAX volume. After spending time with the S7, I have to say I'm happier with it. I like the phone size, IP68 rating, multitasking, and camera a lot better. The fingerprint scanner on the HTC 10 is hands down better. It's faster, more accurate, and more consistent when reading my fingers at different angles, but everything else about the S7 is just better. The only problem with the S7 is nobody makes a good screen protector for it. Any suggestions on a screen protector that actually covers the whole screen and doesn't leave a halo of an air pocket all around it?

  • @neardood1
    @neardood1 Před 8 lety

    8:19 I couldn't agree more with Linus there. I'm happy with my 2 year old phone because honestly I don't see any significant reason to upgrade it. Back in the day (5 years ago) when buying a new phone you'd typically get a big upgrade in screen resolution or size, a much better camera or far better performance for games ect but now the new generations are only a little bit better, (in some cases they've gone backwards on features (eg s5-s6 no removable battery and removing the IR blaster on the s7). The smartphone industry badly needs innovation to move it into the future and sadly htc (like all the other major brands) has kind of just played it safe and made a good phone that is just another flagship.

    Watched this on my HTC 10 :P I honestly find waterproof to be just a random gimmick that isn't necessary. It's nice but to me shouldn't influence whether to buy the phone or not because I don't need to swim with my phone. Mist proof on the other hand is very useful for showering and such. Furthermore the Dolby Sound isn't actually that bad just if your headphones aren't flat or have bass boosted it gives double and depending on your settings between app and headphones it can overdose the music. I found it to be really good at outdoor pictures so I'm not sure what you meant there lol. I do love the sound on these speakers and the Dolby modes help a lot for it. I never noticed the Pink tone at all but that's interesting and a nice change from boosted blue.
    For the record, I love your stuff and not criticizing or anything just giving my opinion differences based on my experience for anyone that might want it or need it.
