Excellent restoration. I like old vehicles restored to original or at least current to the era. Its nice to see what things were really like. A true piece of history. About that auto dimmer function. My dad recently told me one of his buddies had a 55 Caddy in the mid 1960's. It had that dimmer sensor on the dash. Not sure if it was age of the car, but it didn't seem to want to auto dim until too late to cause the oncoming driver irritation.

Actually the most obvious missing option is air conditioning. A $500 option on a $2500 car. Not many people ordered it. It is also missing the traffic viewer prism on the dash and the fuel injection air scoop. No power brakes, either. The tissue dispenser is where the trash bin is supposed to be. The tissue dispenser goes under the middle of the dash where the driver can reach it. The FI emblems are at least a 1/4 inch too high on the fenders.Door trim was straightened. supposed to be curved.

Makes me wonder if the car if it was made before or after I was born, 5/26/57. Probably 60% chance before. Anyway, it's always been my favorite favorite. Regardless of that, sometimes less is more. If I could magically "order one as new", it would be WITHOUT the front bumper guards, those outer rear view mirrors, fender skirts, the aluminum at the bottom of the trunk, and of course the continental kit. Without all that, it's perfect!

If you're referring to MY comment Scottie, I never said he did NOT spend all that money on this one, and it IS perfect for him! I never said it wasn't---at all---for him---anywhere in my comments. Please re-read what I said, I stated if I could order this car, that's my exact age, it would be without all of the "options" for the outside , I don't need to re-mention, and won't. This car, for this man, is exactly as he wants it, which is how it should be. Good enough of a re-explanation??

Great video, Scottie! A really neat car. It's got the padded dash, too. Black, red, silver or white convertibles only came with a red and silver interior by the way. All convertibles only had one interior color available. Sport Coupes could have 2 options, like black and silver or black and red for black cars. The underside of the trunk lid is glossier than factory.

I'm 71 and remember very well seeing my first 57 Chev. It was a white hardtop with blackwall tires....It had the 283/270 hp with solid lifters and it just sounded fast. Most guys went for the dual four barrel 270, 'cause it was faster and more dependable than the fueler...In '62, my brother bought that car...blueprinted and balanced the 283 and it did real well on the mean streets of Eugene...And I've had a lot of drunken discussions with dudes about whether they came with optional four speed...NO...It was three on the tree and a lot of them were converted, in the shop, to a Corvette 4-speed and Hurst shifter...Then they had to put a notch in the front seat for room to shift....

Not sure where that car had spent its life but is WAS somewhere that did not get a lot of snow.
Upon graduating HS in 1964 in the Cincinnati area, I bought a '57 Chevy Convertible with the 'power pack' 283 with 3 on the tree. Even though it only had about 50K miles on it - there was rust everywhere. It took a fail amount of work to clean it up and give it a fresh coat of the Tropical Turquoise paint.
Sold it when I got drafted in '66 to my friend Jim Thiel who went on to start Thiel Audio making very high end speaker systems.

Auto dim was on the 56 cadillac two door hardtops cause I had one bone stock that at the time. I did not know what it was worth, but it was only six years old and had whiskey dents from one end to the other so we drove it for a crew bus for five loggers. As far as not seeing one like your 57 chevy, this one was red and white and an easy check on cause it sat at the only chevy dealership in wasilla alaska for several years with a do not touch on it so it was from a distance of easy to see as it was right next to the parts counter in the show room for several years. I do know that it is not there now but it belonged to the owner of the dealership and a phone call would set it straight.. It said on the display; Every option available.. every one.... check it out. I haven't been in, in several years but someone does know there and it had trophies with it too.. only difference between yours and his is the color

That's a mighty nice '57 rag top. If I bought it, I'd remove the continental kit. Never liked them. 1968 is when the VIN first appeared in the corner of the dash/ windshield, Scottie. The fuel injected engine was not available with the Power Glide. Manual Trans only. I don't know why the car didn't have electric wipers. They were available.

That car's easily a hundred-plus. It has every option, but who's to say it really was ordered that way in 1957?

+John L It is all documented from the build sheet...

+ScottieDTV In the reproduction world, its SO easy to "throw options" at these cars. Regardless, its nice to see what kind of options were available on a particular car.

John L Larry Griffey...The restorer of this car knows how to take one back to right...and verify it...This is not the first one he has done to this level....Glad you enjoyed this one!

NO, The FI on this car was a fuel rail system with individual cyl injectors. Kinda primative and hard to tune but a really fast car in the day. Chevy and Ford were in a HP race in those days. Ford had their Y block T bird motor. 312 cu in in '56 and could be equipped with a Paxton supercharger. Oh for the good old days!

The car is from Oregon . The car left here 1974 for California. Lost track of the car until it surfaced in New York, then again in Arizona.
