#fujifilm #xt4 #settings
videos like these are so helpful for the visual learners like myself. I read this portion in the manual, but you helped me understand how important it is to do it!
This is a concise and comprehensive video. Very helpful and exactly what I needed to set my newly purchased X-T30. Thank you!
Helpful hint for XT3 users: I couldn't find this "mount adaptor setting" in my I.Q. menu, but I did find it under the camera icon settings (Shooting Settings) on page 2. I also don't think it lets you name the lens, that must be an XT4 option.
Just received my new X-S10 (really considered the X-T4, but this was the better choice for my needs) and this was *exactly* what I needed to know. I have the K&F Concept adapter for all my gorgeous old Pentax K glass, and now I can shoot with them on my new Fuji! At first nothing was working even though I set the Mount Adaptor [sic] Setting to the correct values, and the manual was a bit inscrutable regarding the buried Shoot Without Lens option. Cheers!
Just bought an X-S10 also. About to set up my K&F adapter with my beautiful old Pentax lenses and an old Tokina 28-85. Going to be fun!
First like đȘđ» because today I bought the XT-3!
WOW!!!!!! That's AWESOME!!!!!!!!! You are going to get some AMAZING shots with that!!!!!! Once you get it up and running send me a link to a few. I'm on IG at: @pal2tech. Congratulations again and welcome to the awesome crazy Fuji family!!! đ đ

Thank u bro, helped me a lot with this. using 60mm macro 7artsans with stabylizer is so helpful.
Thank you for your help. By the way Your video is so crispy. Wow.
I always forget where the 'shoot without lens' setting is...
Good to know that I can just pop on over here and get a reminder. Great work.
Great video. I am currently shooting a lot with vintage lenses so this information is very useful to me. Thank you Chris!!
Thank you so much Juan!!! Vintage lenses are the BEST!!! đ
Thanks so much for this. I was using the same lens (except the Samyang) and wondered why my footage was floating around the place. Love your channel. Thanks again :)
What a fantastic explanation!!! For me this channel is the best out there about Fujifilm world!!! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much Victor!!!!!! đđđ. You have an AMAZING weekend sir!!!! Get some shooting done!!!!! đž
Huge help since I happen to have the Rokinon 12mm lens :). Thanks again Chris
Great to hear!
@@pal2tech Chris, I finally got around to doing this with my Rokinon 12mm and my XT3. But this option on the XT3 is under Shooting Setting and not IQ and there is no option for Edit Lens Name. I do have the latest XT3 upgrade. Is there a work around for this in the XT3?
Bought my first manual lens and this has been super helpful. You are incredible!
Really helpful, especially for a new Fuji convertâŠ.X-T1
Brilliant detailing of FUJI system......you are the BRUCE LEE of photography !
I wish! đ đ„
I ordered an XT-4 recently because of your review. Great to see these follow up videos, they are super helpful. Thank you!
Great to hear! đ đ đ
Excellent tip , never knew what this setting was for, thanks for sharingđ
Any time!
Thank you! Great video
Exactly the instruction I was looking for as two of my three 3rd party manual lenses arrive tomorrow for my new X-S10! Thank you sir. I'm subscribing.
You rock! Thanks for this. i was stuck with my adaptor for a long time.
You are doing some seriously important work. Keep it up! :-)
Thank you so much!!!!
I had no idea that's what that menu was for! Thank you for this. I have two manual lenses the Rokinon you used and my beloved Laowa 9mm. The only way I knew I used either of those lenses was the lack of data...well and look of the image lol
Ohh!! I'll bet the Laowa is amazing!!!!
@@pal2tech oh it's my favorite lens by far. It's an oddball lense in the sense that the controls are all opposite but that's its only flaw.
I have lots of vintage lenses. When using them I shoot black/white jpg (of course raf too) with red focus peaking. Nail focus because the only color is red focus peaking. Try it!
GREAT suggestion! Will try that out! đ
@@pal2tech great and if it works for you go ahead and run with and throw it in a vid somewhere for others.
Awesome video, mate! Love all the content plus the intro and outro. Have been deciding between the X-T4 and the Panasonic Lumix GH5. So thrilled to learn that the Fujifilm can take interchangeable lenses!!
Thank you- wondering about my X-T5 ibis !!! Now it works !!!!
Hi! But what if we use Nikkor manual vintage zoom lenses, like for example 80-200mm, what focal lenght should we introduced for best results in the manual adapter settings of fuji cameras? What is the correct value that's working best with IBIS in that scenario? Thank you anyway for all your shared knowledge, you are the best!
Hello, Thank you for your clear explanation. In this video you mention the third part lenses that communicate partially. Do you have a video about this? I have a voigtlander ultron with X mouth but my Display keeps saying 0 for aperture . ...I hope you have a video for the partially communications lenses
Thank you for the video, it was what was looking for. Got my manual lens to work on y new Fuji xt4
I still love that socially distanced Halloween treat dispenser! Such a great idea!
Iâm going to name my lens Kevin. đ€Șđ
That's awesome!!! Kevin is PERFECT!
Thanks for the informative video! đ One question: How do you adjust the camera if the lens is for example a 28-70 zoom?
I have the same question
@@deejayscano I as well. I think we are taking the L on this one.
Me too, but for the 50-100 mm sigma
It is 2022, I would want to know this answer too.
Huuuuge help. Was just trying out my new full manual lens (7Artisans 35mm 1.4) on my xt4 and wasn't able to record. Helped me out a lot! Thank you very much. (Enable Recording without a lens)
70-300 mm lens...what value should you put? đ€
Thank you so much!!
Very helpful, thank you. Have a great weekend and stay safe.
Thanks, you too!
Great video. I I used a Rokinon 14MM lens (full frame 35mm lens) on the FUJIFILM XT4. When I use 35mm format lenses should I multiply the focal length by 1.5 in this case 21mm to get the right information to the camera? I use alot of third party 35mm formal lenses on my X4 , should my 300mm be programed at 450mm ?
I have the same question using Samyang 12mm and Tokina 400mm. Shall I then choose 18mm and 620mm? In the manual it only says "...lens' true focal length".
did you find the answer to this?
@@RujenMaharjan I think you should use the actual length that's written on the lens and not type in the crop compensation factor. I think the camera itself does that compensation, but I'm not 100% sure.
Thanks man! Big like.
I really love how you break things down and explain details. Love your vids. Question for you. Whatâs the best photo editing program you can recommend? Something for cropping, erasing things out of pictures, editing portraits and basically everything?
You're an excellent teacher!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you very much to remind me to set up adapt lense setting, I am using Mitkon 35 F 0.95, kind of feeling something is not quite right, now I understand, Thank you again1
Always a joy watching your Friday tips......and Happy Halloween to your family. Greetings from High Black Forest/Germany
Thank you so much Aaron!!! Das ist so nett von dir heute! Ich hoffe du hast ein wunderschönes Wochenende und alles Gute fĂŒr dich!
you saved my butt with this video i was about to send my lense back
Good video, but what if you use Nikon lens with adapter. Like I use 50mm, but adapter gives another 20mm. So should I still set as 50mm, or 70mm ?? :)
Thanks for helpful videos! Question: If I use lens with fonal reducer. Lets say I use Helios 44 58mm. Should I use 58mm or 58*0.7 = 40mm, which Fuji will see as basically 60mm?
I have set up several manual lenses in my XT5 menu thanks to your video. However, sometimes I set a manual lens up in my menu before shooting but my exif data shows the first lens in the list Iâve set up. What am I doing wrong?
Great video, verry helpfull. One question, i use the xpro2 with a fully manuel adapter and vintage 28 pentax lens. Do i put in the camera 28mm or should i also ad the adapter length? Kind regards and greetings from belgium.
Great video again; you read my mind. I was wondering about that.
Thanks Johnny!!! đ đ
I haven't been doing this with my manual lenses! Thanks!
if I mention it in a future video I'll be sure to credit you with the tip!
It's really a great feature! Especially later on when you want to go back and quickly see what photos you took with what lens later on. With M mount, you can really adjust more settings... I REALLY want Fuji to put ALL the feature in the X-T3 and X-T2 as well via firmware update. Do YA HEAR ME FUJI!!!!! ADD same features for adapter menu TO FIRMWARE for XT2/T3 PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!!! Give them some love!!!
@@pal2tech haha they hear you. Someone has an eye on your channel ;-)
Question: when using manual dumb adapted lens. Can you use manual focus assist other than focus peaking? Like split image/microprism?
Thanks. VERY Useful. I have one follow up question-on an XT5 is there a way to zoom into the focus point while turning the focus knob on a 3rd party lens?
VERY important if you have ibis, like the X-H bodies and the T-4. This finally told me the most important reasons for setting the mount adapter setting. Lemme ask, though, as my M-42 adapters add around an inch to the lenses I use, should I adjust the numbers a bit? Like raise my 50 to around 60?
Hi there! Did you ever make a video about the M-Mount Lenses as well? Could you point me in the direction of it, if yes?
Another question: I'm looking to attach my Fujifilm XS-10 to a telescope. First I assume I would just add the camera mount adapter to the length of my telescope? And the second part of this question is to do with back focus spec? They ask how many mm of back focus does my sensor need, but I could not find anything of the sort on the manual, or online really. I do know that a pretty common amount is 55mm, but I was hoping to get this right. Any idea on where to look? Thank you!!
Hi Chris, great video! As I am using vintage lenses with a 'dumb' adapter I always set the focal length of the lens but recently I thought shouldn't I be entering the APS-C focal length as the camera uses an APS-C sensor? So when using for instance a old Pentax Takumar 50mm shouldn't I be entering 33mm ???
Loved the intro
Thank you so much!! đ
Question: can you use all fujifilm manual focus assist when using dumb adapted old lens like ais or m42 ? Manual focus assist like: Digital Split Image and Digital Microprism ?
while choosing the focal length for a manual only lens, what entry should be made? the focal length of lens or the APSC equivalent of the focal length..for example if i have a 23 mm manual lens, should i enter 23 mm or 35 mm (APSC equivalent so to say..)?
Super helpful! Thank you! What if Iâm using a speed booster? Do I still set the focal length to the same number or do I compensate? đ
Do we have to enter the 35mm equivalent focal length? Because for example a Helios 58mm f2 lens has a 87mm focal length on APS-C and 58mm focal length on 35mm film. What do we enter then? 58mm or 87mm? What if I add a Zonghnuy M42 to fuji x adapter?
Hey, have you managed this out? ) I have pretty the same lens, Helios 58mm for full frame. And I'm using manual adapter from K&F that add 27 mm of space between camera and lenses. Should I take it into account?
what about 3rd party zoom lenses? Do those not apply here?
If you mount a manual variable-zoom lens (with zero communication), will IBIS work, and what should be put in Settings?
Would this setting impact the accuracy of focus peaking? Thanks!
I have a Pentax k1000 ashai 35mm lens and want to use for my Fujifilm xt4. Was wondering what would be the best adapter to use and get?
If I say use an old nikkor 105mm lens would I enter 70mm (crop factor) or do I enter 105mm?
Your videos are lifesaver, I just bought a Fuji X-T3, and your videos saved me a lot of trubble :D About this one. Im about to adapt cine lenses, but I was a bit affraid, because of this particular mount mm settings. But If im correct, you tell, that this settings has nothing to do with the senzor or the image quality, its just a metadata information about the lens? Okay it effects IBIS, but what to do If I have a Sigma ART 18-35 lens attached, but I have a Nikon one and there is no electric communication?
Why my mounr adaptor is grayed out (my 35-70 lens attached)? Would it be available only when I attached the manual lens with adapter?
Hello! Help please) When connecting the lens to the x-T4 camera, it is impossible to take a picture, although the image is displayed on an electronic display!
Hi
what about when you use a zoom lens?
I want to use a 70-210mm Pentax PK lens, so I can't specify all the vocal lenghts in between.
Does this affect the photo or is it only in the information in Lightroom where the chosen vocal length is not correct?
or can I just call lens 1 Zoom Lens 70-210mm?
Greetings Nicky
If I am using an adapter, how do you adjust the mount adapter setting if I have my Nikon zoom lens on?
What about an episode on non fuji glass (cannon, nikon) and what kind of adapter settings work best.
Hopefully to have a camera like yours
Shifting to Fujifilm XT4 from Nikon. Will be using my Nikons on it, still to buy Fuji lens. Hope it will be okay.
Never needed to tell my Fuji what focal length my legacy adopted lenses are. Lightroom couldnât care less. đ
Have you a video for the XT3 on this subject? Or are the settings the same for mount adapters?
are all fuji lenses with specific mount adapter?
do I need to change the mount adapter setting on all fujifim lenses each time when I change lenses? thank you in advance
Does this only affect the EXIF data? Or does it cause the camera to add different corrections? I have been shooting like this since I got the camera and I really like the photos a lens is getting set to the wrong listed focal length. If I change it to the actual focal length will it alter the character of the images I am getting?
Very clear ... except ... how do I tell the camera what aperture I set on the manual lens? It just says F 0. How do I get a good exposure?
Great Explaining â€đ€
Thank you so much Charith!
if crop sector happen then 35mm must be 55mm in sitting or same 35mm in lens setting
hi. I mounted my sigma 18 35 on xt4 using the commlite adapter. the Ibis isn't functioning at all. i was hoping this would help but it didn't. i was wondering if you could help me
What if my lens is fujinon 18-55mm? What setting should I put? Thanks
Hey Chris! I have a question. I have a few vintage lenses and since they were designed for full frame sensors, do I have to specify the focal length by multiplying by 1.5? For example, I have a Minolta 50mm f1.7. Should I set the focal length to 75mm? Thanks for the video.
I am not an expert, but based on common sense, when using a full-frame manual lens on an APS-C camera like the Fujifilm X-T5, you should enter the nominal full-frame focal distance value into the camera's settings for the "manual lens mount adapter". As Chris explains, this value is necessary for accurate EXIF data and effective in-body image stabilization (IBIS).
The multiplication by 1.5x (or any crop factor) is relevant when you're trying to understand the effective field of view of a lens on an APS-C sensor compared to a full-frame sensor. It does not affect the focal length of the lens itself. The lens's focal length remains constant regardless of the sensor size it's being used on. The crop factor only changes the angle of view, not the optical properties of the lens.
Therefore, when setting up your camera, use the lens's actual focal length as stated by the manufacturer. This ensures that the EXIF data is accurate and that the camera's IBIS system receives the correct information to perform optimally. Please anyone tell us if this reasoning is incorrect.
Any chance of you doing a FF on lens adapters? I have some Nikon-mount glass that I'd love to be able to use with my X-T3.
Yep! Absolutely and coming!!
Hello, great info , thnx.... maybe you can help me... I have an x-s10 and just got a fully manual adapter for some old minolta lens I have. Everything is set up as you explained. But when I view the photo it is black. The photo is black. I tried importing to my computer to see if there is a difference. But the import photo, again, are black....
Wondering if you can point me in a direction to figure this out.
Hope someone reads this in 2022, what do we set a vintage lens too, I have the Zenit 58mm f2\, thank you
Hi there, and thanks. I am planning to buy Tokina 11-20mm EF Mount to my XT4, and connect it with Viltrox EF-FX2 0.71x Lens Mount Adapter. What is going to be the widest angle of view with the Speedbooster and the asp-c sensor? Will it work...?
Do I need to worry about changing the settings if I'm planning to use the viltrox lens with the Fujifilm Tx4?
If I use something like Tokina 11-16 mm what focal length should I specify?
You can get confused on a T-2, as it has a setting for IS mode to be continuous or only while shooting. It doesn't say OIS,which makes you think of lens stabilization. IS makes you think it has IBIS.
What about micro tubes? What will be the right classification for those?
After you used your manual lens and adapter setting, and you put fir example en xf lens on it, will it change automatically to the right lens?
Hello. Great video! Having a problem. Maybe you know a fix. Recently purchased an X-S10 to take advantage of the IBIS and adapting an EF mount Voigtlander 90mm f3.5 manual focus lens (has electronic contacts for focus confirmation, no aperture ring). Using a Kipon baveyes 0.71x AF speedbooster.
I did set the focal length as you showed (90mm), kept shoot without lens off in my case since the electronics are there.
Also turned it on but still same result.
Not seeing the IBIS engaging.
When I mount a Canon autofocus lens, I see the view through the evf getting stabilised when I turn IBIS on. I'm clueless at this point.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thxs for the tips
Anytime Steve!!!! đ
The F Does not appear when i use my canon lens on the xt4, should this just stay blank? If not how do i set it? And is it enough to just write it down in adapter settings or do i need to apply it somehow when i am using a third party lens?
Where is the âedit lens nameâ on XT3 menu?
I do not see that option on my XT3
Thanks
I have a ton of 35mm Nikon film lens, what is the conversation of focal length for an xt4?
Great video like always :-) If i use my Nikon 70-210mm on a K&F adapter with my X-T4 can i create a lens profile like you did even if it's not a third party manual x-mount lens ?
Have a great week-end too !!
Hi Alain! Yep I believe so since the K&F would not AF or send lens data -- so the camera would think disconnected and thus the lens profile settings would kick in.
@@pal2tech thanks a lot !!
is there no automatic focus adapter for xt4?
Is there any difference video and photo quality in various situation other than ibis ?
What about if i have a zoom lenses 70-300?
Here's one you may not know the answer to. The fotodioX adapter for a Hasselblad lens to Fuji X is very thick. (long) Way more than an inch. Will this mess with getting in camera stab correct even if I set my mount adapter correctly?
Hi, if I use a manual lens say 25mm and make my lens adopter settings accordingly, will is make any effect on the other lenses which have electronic communications. Say after setting these if I use 18-135 Fuji lens, do I need to change the settings? Thank you
