We all know a homemade quad is way better than the dji.. but this is a plug and play system. People will buy it, People will fly it, even if it's the first time flying rc in their life

I LOVE ALL THE HATE in the comments.....which are all from NON-FPVers, so basically carry NO weight in knowing WTF they are talking about.
    Thank you for this review.
    For the haters:
Comments on Poor signal - you obviously haven't seen Ken fly here before with a proper Kwad. Never had an issue with those, yet this one does. That's a point against it.
Comments on the small bump - For a GPS drone, yeah sure, that was hard. For Kwads, we hit things MUCH harder and they keep going. Another point against it.
Batteries are overpriced, sure the flight time is a little longer but not 8x more which is how much more they cost than typical lipos
Repairs are questionable and a lot that DJI is not admitting to yet.
The word FPV also carries the implication of durability which this drone does not have. DJI could have easily given this drone a carbon fiber frame, but they went with plastic. Final death point against it
This might be a gateway drug into FPV....but highly unlikely

There's a reason that this thing is not advertised as a "quad". It's because it's not supposed to be. It's a hybrid meant to teach pilots who want to dip their toes into FPV. Don't treat it as a quad and your golden. I for one enjoy flying this for recreation and videography. No hate!

    Hi Ken,
I'm not a DJI fan, but some fact checking of the FPV manual:
    1) All DJI drones must have video recording halted before turning off, or there will be no saved video.
    2) DJI FPV must be put into NORMAL mode prior to landing. You did not land in the video, you hit the ground. I'm sorry it was damaged, and hope someone will cook up some more crashworthy landing gear for it.
Clearly this in not a drone the FPV crowd will welcome, but it is still the drone many people are waiting for. But not necessarily you. Hope DJI warranty fixes you up quick.

From the perspective of someone that only flies freestyle FPV drones, I've never flown a GPS drone at all. For me, I'd be VERY apprehensive of something like this - while it can FPV and it can GPS, but it doesn't really do either that well. However, my dad has seen me fly and wants to get into FPV but wants training wheels so he doesn't have to solder every time he's on the field. Something like this is absolutely perfect for him. He bought one last year and has been flying it periodically since then to get the feel for and concepts down for flying FPV. Now, he hasn't tried acro yet, so the drone is still completely intact with the same set of props, but he's significantly more comfortable flying and understanding the controls with goggles on. I think he is the perfect example of someone who SHOULD buy the potato.

Going against the grain here but I bought the DJI FPV drone combo the morning of the 2nd from Best Buy and I absolutely, love it. It totally rips, the picture quality and range is amazing. I love being able to do flips and barrel rolls as well as have the normal DJI easy flight modes. Of my three DJI drones, The Mavic 2, Mavic Air 2 and the DJI FPV, my favorite is the DJI DPV drone. As far as cost goes, I've spend hundreds willingly on Tiny Hawk 2's, Tiny Hawk Freestyle 2's, Scimitar 215, and a bunch of other racing drones that aren't anywhere near as capable as the DJI FPV drone but they are still fun. To say this thing isn't good is so far off. I imagine the reviewers are probably trying to save face for the other FPV drone manufacturers who are likely worried about DJI taking the majority of their business. I believe Storm offers a drone with similar capabilities but it's $600 before upgrades (and just for the drone) so this thing is in line price wise. Going to say it again, I love it. If you have the funds, I highly recommend picking one up....

As for the auto-land, it was caused by the battery impact, nice safety feature that it lands if it detects damage, but truly a design flaw to have the battery and antenas be the first things that hit the ground. when you go around a massive concrete wall, it'll prevent wireless transmission, an analog FPV quad would likely have lost any transmission and the goggles would have completely blanked. You likely lost footage from the first flight because you shut down the battery without stopping the recording.

Yes, which releases the spring entirely for actual FPV control. That, combined with the “country code not updated” error makes me wonder if not rtfm could contribute to some of the complaint. The batter is still definitely vulnerable, but I’ve watched a couple legit FPVers who actually liked this. 🤷‍♂️

With this drone, we will be able to replace them for a fraction of the cost and have consistently better shots and better quality feed out. Also, anyone who says this is a "hobby" drone doesn't work in the industry. You don't need to fly a Komodo on an FPV to find good paying work.

Not sure if I like the style, but you have saved me spending $2100, especially if the battery is as Fragile as you showed in the review. The other draw back, CASA (Australian version of the FAA) is still operating in the late 17th century. We can only fly FPV at certified model aero clubs, oh and night flying only if you are licenced and operating under a companies ReOC which has night flying exclusion. Hopefully one day CASA will catch up with the FAA

I've watched analog FPV from someone else flying it and it was like watching a bootleg VHS tape. I also want the DJI experience that I am accustomed, too, no frills and no tinkering needed. I love mine. I have two of them. Some people will understand signal problems when operating a digital system while standing between a metal structure and cement building with steel in it. Some, don’t understand the reflections that happen with the signal in that situation. So funny that some people will see a message about a battery connection problem after a bounce ‘ crash on the ground and then keep flying. I have smacked the ground hard and chose to land and investigate. Some would be able to plug there battery into the provided charger to reset, others would be clueless.
I have been flying quads for years and have a dozen of them that I don’t fly anymore. Along with a plethora of batteries, motors, connectors, soldering irons, different goggles, antennae stands, long range antennae, batter chargers, cables, and room that is a work shop just for drones. All this crap just seems archaic now. I travel the world for a living and I like to take a drone with me. The DJI FPV makes it simple. I don’t have arrive at some island and realize I don’t have the right googles to go with this transmitter battery with a different connector with this drone. It all just works. I can always expect a range of ultra clear reception of 2km (depend on the metal boxes I’m standing next to lol.).
If I race again at a meet, I guess I will dig into the shop and get a couple of more cheaper drones to slam into poles, flags and Terra firma. But right now, I am on the opposite of the planet and I have the FPV and 5 batteries with me. Time for fun.

Really refreshing to have a good honest review this earlier on in a new drones life.

love your honest assessment of the drone. Many CZcamsrs could learn something from that. But they have not paid for the drone themselves.

Ken I admire the crap out of you on this one. I could see the disappointment throughout the entire video.

Honest to the end!!!! Fair play to you Ken!!!! Honesty is one thing a lot of people these days brush to the side for the sake of commercial gain.... Money come and go, good name and reputation stay with you all the time..
