No way people gonna use this in production. Pretty sure copilot was able to make those reports because the underlying data was clean and simple with neatly formatted columns names and table names.
    Production doesn’t work that way.

Yes, without clean data sets it's impossible for any generative ai to generate good report

I think even to ask the right questions require some understanding and skills, the Ask phase is also a major part in the role of an Analyst 👍🏽

as a BI dev of over 8 years, no way this takes too many jobs. I think the only jobs at risk are the companies that have 1 dev for the backend like relationships, modeling etc, but since it doesnt hurt front end at all i do not see this hurting much of the job market.

No. It let us focus on left shift to have clean and structured data.

Clean and structured data is the 🔑key & as of now AI can't solve that puzzle🧩

@@datawolfs but it can spot conflicting formats in a column, extra spaces , duplicates and outliers - remember chatGPT came nov 2022 - but i believe the focus will be on expertise in data gathering/collection especially in perfecting survey structures and in person interviews but after a while AI will help with this too. It's gonna come down to domain knowledge and the ability to highly articulate the right query- AI will however begin to spot patterns in the most sophiticated human generated query and add it as a suggested query - we gotta roll with the punches and see where this goes.

In power bi service I am unable to use Copilot I am getting this error Copilot isn't available in this report. The workspace where this report is saved isn't compatible with Copilot.
I have enabled all the mandatory tenant nd workspace setting. Is this happening because I have free trial license?

  • @surafeb7

Other than Microsoft did anyone else used copilot to create reports? Not available for others as it is still in a preview feature?

So is this the end of Power BI developer role? If it's not the end, it'll definitely lead to huge reduction and less pay

I would go with more productivity, so definitely we are achieving more with less people. So less no. of jobs for sure

It would be interesting to see my employers' reaction to this new tech. Because from my point of view, for all the flashy, fancy demonstrations by Microsoft, I can see that such "simple questions" would not work with our data. I work in education. Even the simple question of "how many students do we have this year?" is nowhere near as simple as it sounds. For example, there are about four different fields in the data just to work out the date when a student leaves a course. Does the person asking the question want all students enrolled at any point in the year or just those who started new this year? And if it's the latter, does it count if they were a student on a different course previously? They might be new on a particular course, but they could have been enrolled on a different course last year. The quality of the dashboard information you get back will entirely depend on the quality of the question asked in the first place, and from my 23 years of experience of where I work, managers very often haven't got a clue what they're actually asking for, or are very vague in their definitions of what they want.
Just to get to the stage where we can ask a question to copilot and have it return something meaningful it would take a hell of a lot of data transformation, and for that you need people who know what they're doing. While I don't actually do a lot of BI these days in my role, I think my job and the jobs of my colleagues is quite safe for the time being.

These are based on assumptions and also like GenAI. Ones needs to know to ask the right question to have such informative reports.

No it's end of PowerBI developers. Data engineer will be in high demand as data is hard to automateband with clean and structured data with strong bug free pipelines.😂😂😂😂

There is No doubt AI will affect on many jobs
But to Run AI there should be good knowledge of basics
Without knowledge you can’t even search on google as well
So focus on learning along with AI technology

  • @vishalaaa1
    @vishalaaa1 Před rokem +2

BI is not sql. Its designing.
A power Bi developer can easily develop pipelines.
But a data engineer need atleast 3 years to learn reporting.
