From my observation, i conclude that this is one of the most successful lessons i have ever seen. The teacher exhibited a higher degree of creativity, She was very engaging and involving. I liked the way flips comments about negative behaviors in class. The way she administered her formative assessment was incredible. A very articulate and confident classroom manager. I really enjoyed how she engaged the whole class not just a few student. Her knowledge of the students is mesmerizing. What a great teacher!!! From Joseph kajubi

Thanks for sharing this vid. It helped me prepare for my New YOrk State School Building leader test where I'm required to review a 15 minute lesson. Thanks a million. Great work.

Hello. I am taking the same test tomorrow. I was wondering if you may be able to share with me a sample write up for the exam using this video. I am looking for guidance on how to answer the questions for the 15 min video. I feel pretty strong about the rest of the test, however, I am unclear on how to answer the questions that goes with the video. Thank you much

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that the teacher continued to ignore the child with the red shirt sitting at the front. The way he looks at him and picks on other students and not him bothers me. Look at 10:00, 12:25 and 12:45 for some examples. The only time she addresses this child is to redirect him from the behavior she is causing. Yes, she is causing this behavior as she continues to ignore a student that clearly wants to participate and feel that he belongs.

I noticed that, but maybe regularly he's one of those students who answers every question? I agree that everyone should have the opportunity to participate at least once, but I have been told many times by teachers to let others have a chance to answer, even if no one else knows the answer except for me 😅

Would love see diverse learners included in more than just the discipline aspect of instruction!

I completely disagree with the last comment about this being one of the best lessons ever. The only student of color is the only one who is redirected for inappropriate behavior. She should have had him sitting closer to her. She never engaged him in the lesson. I couldn’t watch the whole lesson. He raised his hand to answer and she looked at him with disdain. He is obviously her behavior problem and don’t think she cares too much for him. Only negative interaction with him. ‘Complimented’ him once. “On. Now.” No please or thank you when he took his shoe off. He started to say something and she shut him down. Snapped her fingers at him.
Needs to use academic language more frequently, as opposed to top and bottom. Should use the Promethean board to enlarge the text so it is easier for students in the back to read. The students needed to get up and move when she moved from the activity of identifying the fractions to the different sets of shapes as fractions. There should be 80% student talk and 20% or less of teacher talk.

This teacher uses accurate ASL number signs but completely made up, incorrect signs for yes and no. If it wasn't for the numbers I would think she had just made up the hand signals, but it seems like she maybe thinks she is using ASL?! Just wanted to put that out there.

I thought she just made the kids do "y" for yes, and "n" for no? I just took ASL 1 in college last semster so I noticed the letters and numbers that were being used.

I don't feel like cold calling is appropriate. It can embarrass the student and create poor behavior and make them not want to participate. Praise in public, reprove in private.

Sorry to say this but if there were more minority students this would be a poorly managed classrooom. She had problems with the 1 little Hispanic boy there.
