For some clarification, Raven Beak isn’t Samus biological father nor her adoptive father. She was raised by different Chozos. Raven Beak was one of the donors who helped give Samus supernatural strength and abilities.

raven beak is not actually samus's father - not the one who -conceived- begot her, at least. her actual mother (virginia) -and father (rodney) were- was killed by ridley when she was young, while her father (rodney) sacrificed himself to save their colony from space pirates. shortly after, she was adopted by the chozo and infused with their dna, and in this game we find out that raven beak was one of the donors. raven beak is just a conceited prick, so he calls her his 'daughter' as a way to instill power over her.
Unfortunetly for him, Samus went over her daddy issues in OtherM

This was my first Metroid game, and I was a little intimidated going in, but man was my first playthrough amazing! Definitely one of the best games I’ve played this year.

Fusion was my introduction to the series and I will say it introduces the X perfectly, and I’d highly recommend finding out for yourself!

Mercury studios had offered to remake fusion originally but it was felt the Metroid 2 was seen as needing the remake treatment much more.

One thing you never noticed Choc is that the character that became Samus’s AI always called Samus “Lady” and during the flight in and the elevator down at the beginning you can hear her being referred to as “Lady” and after her fight with Raven Beak, Adam always calls Samus by her name, showing it isn’t Adam talking

Wow. The ending for Dread is perfect. It carries all the themes of nature coexisting within the previous games by showing that the X Parasites and the Metroid can cancel each other out and bring about peace and balance. God damn what a wonderful series

Seriously, I don’t think I’ve seen a single playthrough of this game where The streamer/LPer doesn’t mention how great he’d be for smash.
Smash can always use more villains

Samus from dread would be broken in smash by herself. Lock-on missles, actually spammable charge shot, fastest dodge in the game and a command grab that heals her.
If smash 6 ever happens, he should absolutely be in the game.
+Unique Character Design, across the whole roster
+Insane amount of moves
+Metroid could use more reps as Samus is 2 slots, Dark Samus is just Samus but again, and Ridley is cool.
(Side Note:If Smash 6 ever happens, Samus should absolutely get a redesign using this game as a moveset)

This was my first full Metroid game too and I absolutely fell in love. So glad to see you had a similar experience, Choc. Thoroughly enjoyed your playthrough.
You can try the other 4 mainline games.
Zero Mission (GBA): Remake of Metroid 1, has a stealth mission.
Samus Returns (3DS): Remake of Metroid 2, has the cool mid-fight parry cutscenes, made by MercurySteam (makers of Dread).
Super Metroid (SNES): The top game in the entire genre. (Potentially dethroned by Dread)
Fusion (GBA): You get stalked by the X-parasite. Linear game, but super difficult. (the hardest modes in Metroid games are sometimes called "Fusion mode")
Also consider giving the Prime series a shot. They’re considerably different, but there’s a reason the Metroid fanbase didn’t schism into 2D VS 3D like the Mario and Zelda series’ did.
If the rumors are true and the Trilogy collection is coming to Switch then wait for that. If not, then consider buying the previous Trilogy collection. The Wii disc is very expensive, but it was also released relatively cheaply for the Wii U eShop if you have that. You might want to stay away from the GameCube originals in this case, unless you REALLY love aiming precisely with the small GameCube C-Stick.

I've played this game 3 times 100% and I know all of the metroid lore. This game is a masterpiece. A truely fantastic sequel to fusion.

id recommend zero mission so you can get a better idea of what exactly metroids were and a little more on samus's past. plus its fun.
Metroid 1? Yes metroid fun and a more of a propper metroid game. Just a better game. upgrade pacing, to color coding areas, and psycho robots to pussy foot around.
Or if you get the omega beam in someway trying hunt them down.
Quick note, never say “remember me?” in the context of Metroid because that prompts bad flashbacks to a certain… Other game.

Anthony was the one good thing about that game
I’m curious about the Red X parasite that became Quiet Robe. When it possessed Quiet Robe it said “I’m counting on you.” As it turned on the E.M.M.I. which seems like a bad thing but the powers from the E.M.M.I. were necessary to stop Raven Beak so it was actually beneficial for Samus and then at the end it willingly sacrificed itself to help Samus escape kinda like the Baby Metroid saved Samus from Mother Brain a few games ago. It’s very interesting.
Perhaps since the X copy memories they carry some remnants of the will of what they copy? So it was carrying on Quiet Robe's will. In Fusion there's there's X who copies a scientist who tries to make the ship self-destruct, similar to what Samus and ADAM do at the end, but less effective, so there's precedent for this.
What I loved about the boss fights in this game is that you were practically guaranteed to die more than once, but each time you try, you learn the boss's patterns and get a little further until you finally kill it.
Then when redoing it you remember that the boss intro cutscene showed you what to do
I...didn't realize you can Power Bomb that Super yellow ball. That makes that part a lot easier lol. Loved watching this, I think the Prime series would be cool for you to play next if you haven't already.

I just beat Dread today as well and man, does it have probably one of the most intense endings I have ever seen in a Metroid game. The whole game was quite the ride from beginning to end!
I hope MercurySteam has another Metroid game in the works on the Switch.
Ah yes, the biggest reveal of the game: That Samus had 3 daddies rather than just 2.
Fusion gives you the most context for dread.
Personally though, I think you should play zero mission.
This game was already hard, but Raven Beak in hard mode is probably one of the hardest boss I have fought other than Absolute Radiance from Hollow Knight.
I don't really see much difference in normal vs hard mode. He has the exact same pattern and timings. Hard mode is only really hard in the first half of the game before you get OP with all the power ups

Theres cool sequence breaks by the way. Not as extensive as id like but definitely present. You can get grav suit just after ice missiles via some clever shinesparking to get to the green teleporter and go through a challenging shinespark challenge to get to the grav suit.
Similarly you can get morphball bombs before kraid and skip the second phase.
with glitches there's even more, and the devs seem perfectly fine leaving them in too!

I accidentally got the Cross Bomb early and didn't realize it until I saw this playthrough.
Loved all 3 of these videos~ They're like the more comical/humorous take on Dread. It's not your typical approach, most go with horror and spooks. This one has a lighter tone to those and it's good to get to laugh a little. Perfect mood lightener to check out with friends~

Many have already explained these but ye might as well
- Samus' parents and whole colony basically was killed by Space Pirates when she was 3, she was then adopted and raced by 2 Thoha tribe Chozo (Old Bird & Grey Voice, the later of which was her Thoha DNA donor)
- The "ADAM" you spoke throughout the game has actually just been Raven Beak all along. The last contact with him is at the elevator at the start of the game. And up until the Itorash point it's Raven Beak. You're finally talking to actual Adam again at "Don't. You'll drain the ship of it's energy"
- Raven Beak is more of a DNA donor than an actual dad to Samus. He does see her as an investment and there for as someone he has the 'right' to, like she'd have to do what he says etc. But as to being a father? He never really did anything for her other than donate that DNA
- The X Parasites are far from your friends~ The moment they're set free from Elun they consume and infect every other being on ZDR that they can and these infected creatures are more aggressive towards you because you are part Metroid, aka their only predator, and they want you Dead
- The Chozo warriors you fight aren't exactly robots, they just wear armor. The ones that explode though, Those are indeed robots
- Quiet Robe is very much dead, the one that reactivated the E.M.M.I. is practically a zombie that the X Parasite took over. Same zombie (Quiet Robe X as he's now called) lent you his Thoha DNA to calm/control your rampaging Metroid ones

Him not knowing that the X are one of the most fucked up and evil aliens Samus has ever faced. "U are they like the wisps from Sonic Colors?" 🤣
I always found the best way to fight bosses once you got the Storm Missiles was by abusing the hell out of them. You can lock on to the enemy to load up multiple volleys ready to release on them even when they have their guard up. As soon as there's an opening, you can release like 15 missiles on them at once in an auto-targeted barrage. Once I got used to that, I never bothered using the beam or single/power missiles again.
This game is so good. Haven't even played it but man just watching it makes me hyped

If you haven't played Metroid prime yet, that's a must play. It's very different gameplay wise, but if you want more Samus, then the 3rd dimensions not a bad place to go next 👍

Hey Choc! I know you're probably done with Dread (content's gotta content), but I'd really recommend the Hard Mode 0% run (i.e. don't grab any energy, missile, or power bomb tanks).
It's not nearly as hard as it sounds, and it's so satisfying to beat Bird Dad with just the basics!
I love that Bionicle hasn't been forgotten. My 2 favorite things, Metroid and Bionicle in the same video.
Dread is probably my favorite Metroid game now just cause the combat is so addictive and the bosses are all extremely fun (plus the cutscene attack sequences are extremely cool and make Samus look like even more of a badass).

If you're up for doing multiple ones I would recommend doing the latest versions of the main series in order. So, Zero Mission -> Samus Returns -> Super -> Fusion. If I had to choose a single one I would probably suggest Fusion though. It's by far the most linear of the bunch and sort of a black sheep, but given this playthrough I think it would work the best.

Just fyi, Raven Beak is not Samus's father. She had two adoptive fathers in the Thoha tribe. One that taught her survival (OldBird) and one that taught her combat(Grey Voice.) She got her Thoha blood from Grey Voice. Raven Beak was just trying to manipulate her because he's that full of himself and...she wasn't having it. XD
