    as someone who works with these (and mostly other types of ellipsoidals) in a theater, it's kinda interesting to me how they're seen as big, heavy and powerhungry in film, because I find them to be rather light and small, and compared to the 1 or 2 kW fixtures we usually use, these are not power hungry at all. When I picked one up, I was surprised by how light it was and by the fact that I could actually carry one in each hand - our usual fixtures are about twice the weight.
    Anyways, there's also the Source Four Mini, which is really small, and the Source Four Jr, which is not quite as small, but still smaller than the normal Source Four, that might be good to look at for anyone looking for similar functionality in a smaller form factor. Also, for anyone looking to dim this version (and not just the LED version), the typical way of doing this for such fixtures is to plug them into a dimmer pack which you control from your lighting console via DMX. However, there are also single-channel dimmers with a fader included in the unit.

    One thing - converting to daylight (5500-5600k) from tungsten typically results in a ton of intensity loss. I can't remember off hand but i think it's greater than a stop, so at least 50% of the output.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  Před 6 lety
