I moved to PA from CA last year and I'm very happy with the move. Live in the 717 area code. Very different from CA in terms of weather, scenery, and cost of living. The infrastructure in PA is horribly outdated compared to CA but I love how PA is more "live and let live" compared to CA where the government is constantly telling everybody what to do. I find PA folk a lot more genuine and down to earth compared to that "plastic niceness" californians are known for.
Average home prices in Cali feel much more expensive due to the current market around 800K. Gas in northern SanDiego counties goes for average around 5.50 on a good week up to as high as almost 7.00 dollars a gallon on bad days. The wildfires are the scariest thing to occur in this state and they continue to get worse every year. After being here for about 10 years, my wife and I are thinking of relocating to Pennsylvania for our remote work for ASD services for our son, and better quality of life. Cannot wait to have all four seasons and play with my son in the snow. God bless.
I think you’ll love PA. All four seasons, no natural disasters, overall a very affordable cost of living, and so much more great things about living here. When would you be planning to move?
@@Philadelphiasuburbs currently awaiting approval of our out of state move for our remote work. So hopefully summer of next year. Currently looking at Pittsburgh suburbs, or a smaller towns like Lancaster, Honesdale or Murrysville.

Hi, I'm moving from CA to Philly within the next few months and I am a renter. I'm finding it really difficult to get call backs for rentals and I'm wondering if its because I'm a Californian. I'm concerned about the stigma and stereotype of people from California moving and jacking up rent in other states. I'm not rich though! I'm moving to be near friends and family on the east coast. Can you offer any advice or help?
Hi Miranda, I don’t think it’s because you’re moving from CA but instead because rentals are very scarce right now which results in tons of applications on most rentals which is why a lot of landlords just aren’t bothering to call anyone back because they have multiple applicants. Have you tried any apartment complexes? They’re typically better with returning calls. Are you looking to rent in or outside of the city?
@@Philadelphiasuburbs I wondered that too. I actually work in a leasing office and our waiting list is crazy long. I was hoping the situation wasn't as dire in Philly. Most of the complexes I've found are above my budget. I found a property management company I was going to call called Fitler properties but I noticed one of their qualifications was a 650 credit score. Mine is 642. ugh! I'll still call monday to see if they are strict on that. I'm looking near Center City, South Philly, and West Philly close to the river. Should I look further out? My college is near the Museum of Art but I don't mind a commute.
@@cynthia8343 The major thing that comes to mind are the taxes. PA has a flat rate income tax compared to NY’s very high income taxes as well as NY’s high property taxes as well. I’m currently helping someone move from Upstate NY to the Philadelphia Suburbs and they didn’t believe me that we could easily find a home with property taxes around 5-7k because they’re used to $15-20k in upstate NY.
@@Philadelphiasuburbs wow, that's crazy. That's the one good thing California's property taxes aren't insanely high thanks to proposition 13 which was passed decades ago.
We talked before on one of your other Pennsylvania videos. Is it possible you could maybe give me a list of small towns with populations not over 30,000 with very low crime rates and closer to the border of NJ as that is where my daughter is living, her husband is a native of NY, but her and I were both born and raised in California, I've never lived anywhere else, so it's bit daunting for me at my age now. Thanks a bunch!

Welcome to PA. Thanks for watching! Driving in the snow takes practice. Have you driven in the snow before?

Is Williamsport and it's surrounding area nice for retirees?
Williamsport is a very affordable & quiet area. The entire state of PA is one of the best for retirees.
