- Here's the “Old Favorite,” a common session tune. I teach this jig phrase by phrase, and play it in three different keys, and then I put it in an ensemble context. As always, I’m playing this on my Patrick Olwell Pratten-style flute.

Thanks so very much.
A mid-month dose of inspiration! Thanks for helping keep me on track, Shannon!!
I'm learning a lot about learning tunes by ear. Thanks a lot!
this is great. Learning by ear/heart is a noble practice. And I think it's a great way to connect with people.
So this will really inspire me thank you
You’re so amazing for doing this. Thank you very much!
absolutely delighted that you can get some use out of it!
Shannon Heaton it’s perfect. Was looking for something to go with My Darling Aleep. Learning Haunted House next. You’re doing a real service for the tradition.
@@gwgtaylor thanks to you, also! I was wondering wich tunes will fit for a good set, and those sound just perfect!
@@maelmori oh that's awesome--my pleasure!
@@gwgtaylor Haunted House is also really nice in A (even though Vincent Broderick wrote it in G). And not difficult on the simple system flute... Try it out!
Beautiful playing Shannon, and Matt.
thanks for tuning in, David!!
@@ShannonHeatonMusic There's a lovely jig called Jackson's Coagy. I've only ever heard it played by a friend of mine, Desi Wilkinson.
@@davidgoodwin7269 I looked it up--it iS a nice tune. Not one I know yet. Thanks.
❤
Lovely stuff
Thank you I just learned this this morning thanks to your video . It’s such a beautiful Jig.
I love how you and Matt play it in the kitchen !
Have a great day to both of you ! Looking forward to your next Tune ! 😊☘️👍🏻🎶
we love the tune, too. Glad you learned it, Lisa! Maybe you can play it in YOUR kitchen...
Thank you , I want to learn the Irish flute, it is much harder to play in the silver flute
So happy you are interested in Irish flute, Michele. I'm sure you will find joy with it.... and really, it's not so different from anything you already know. Get the music in your heart first, and you'll find it on the instrument!
This is beautiful! My wife is learning to play this on the whistle and I would love to accompany her on the guitar - do you happen to know if there are any tutorials on the guitar part? Thanks for everything!
LOVE that you would play music together! Matt has a bunch of guitar tutorials here: czcams.com/play/PLNBgNicF6tU2bTa9HJwU7DX7KgWlZTFIJ.html
Thank you so much for the reply!
Hello ! Thank you very meuch for this tune ! It is also called The Ceili Club jig isn't it ?
hi, Yannick! Yes, Club Ceili is another name for it. Good.
Beautiful playing. Would you have a recommendation for a good beginners flute?
Thank you for your encouragement! As for beginner flutes, I'd know less than Blayne Chastain. Check this vid out, and then get in touch with him for more ideas?? czcams.com/video/pU6rsHMCBVc/video.html
What key is your flute? I'm new to all of this.
Hi, Matt. Welcome to all of this! And an Irish flute is in concert pitch, just like the modern Boehm system flute. Though we call it a "D flute." I guess because the lower note (if you don't have the lower keys) is a D, and the instrument accommodates a D scale neatly.
