- BMW's R1200GS is an icon in the adventure-touring category, but for many it's big and unwieldy, not to mention expensive. For those shorter of stature and lighter of wallet, BMW offers the G650GS for less than half the price of its big GS brother.

This is the only guy who can decently review on this channel.
I have been riding for over forty years and I have a 2011 G650GS, and I love it. Yes, it is a good bike for beginners but for those of us who like a nimble all-purpose bike for solo riding, I love this bike.
What is the city commuting mpg and top speed?
@@aks13v35 Mileage is around 65 mpg and the top speed is around 85 mph.
@@abhayvadhavkar2231 85mph is too little. Are you sure. That's 136kmh, others say 180
@@aks13v35 Perhaps top speed but I would never ride that bike at that speed for more than a few seconds. Not many production 650 cc thumpers will make it to that speed nor would you want to ride them at that speed.
Great review. Really considering this bike after sitting on one at the Toronto motorcycle show, everything just seems to be in the right place. Want to test one out soon but will wait a couple of years before buying.
Nice review...thx for the upload.
I have a 2004 with spoke wheels. It was an F650GS back then. Great back road bike with 50/50 tires.
I bought one last month. First bike. I'm 5'10" and love it. Very easy to handle. The abs center stand and heated grips plus off road ability price point and BMW build quality closed the deal for me. I did also like the tiger but more expensive. Liked the bonneville but no abs and the other items above. I think it's a great value. Sure the single is a pro and a con. For me it's unique for that reason and I like it. --- great mph on regular and tubeless tires .... Ok. I really like it. I'm sure I'll want a bonne too and who knows what after that.
kickstart I’ve had over 20 bikes but now I have only one. 2011 G650GS.
Nice appraisal 👍😉
My hair looked like that when I was 7. lol. great review btw!
Thorough review delivered by a refreshingly normal person in a reasonable tone. Bravo.
Agreed, he was spot on accurate too.
Good review.. exhaust pipes sound different. Which are these
The fuel economy on this bike is terrific. Even two up. We just did a 2,000 km trip on one. Great does-it-all bike.
Use a wind screen for recording audio!!
I think it is 48 hp not just 40 ... at least the bikes here in Germany are, I don´t know if it´s the same for you in the US
What is the actual top speed and in city commuting mpg?
Richie, I upgraded the headlight bulb, its fine
Hey there. Glad to see it overflow wail What's happening, guys. 11
great review!!!!
Do you think it is beginner friendly?? Lovely bike!! Do you know the max load weight of the bike ? Thanx ✌️
Mine too!
Had mine 5 weeks now, I can't fault it.
Hi, do you still have the G650 gs?. if not did you still love it in the end, how reliable did you find it. I had one for a few days as a loan bike while my bike was in the shop. i have to say i didn't think much at first but by the time i handed the 650gs back i was very happy with it. im now thinking of buying one & need some honest feedback. thanks
I thought all f650gs models after 2008 were twin cylinders with close to 800cc.
But a minute in you say it's a single.
jest piękne ale chyba wybiorę xc 750
Dual muffler is only for aesthetics tho, as the left side one is dummy or fake one, still this bike is amazing!
Ernani Joppert I put a single outlet Leo Vince. Transforms the bike in a good way.
Left side is the Catalytic converter.
Is that too high or tall for someone who's height is 5"6?? Or do you or anybody have any recommendations? ?? Thanx.
Can get a rear shock linkage lowering kit
I know this comment is very old, but for anyone wondering, my son is 5’4” at 13years old and can put both feet down.
Not flat, but on the ground.
@@adamhoffman9965 ...why is your 13 year old son riding a pretty powerful 600cc motorbike..?
@@eymanyouwell relax friend. He was just sitting on it.
@@adamhoffman9965 ah my bad mate, sorry mistook the context.
I have the older F650gs a 2003 model. Okay, so it is 12 years old this year, but with a Full Service History, I have a great bike for under £1500 - less than USD 2000. I never will buy a new bike. My GS650 is the dogs blox.
+Tim Cunningham I have the same bike friend.... I cant find the reason to buy the newone G650GS..... this bike is good but it has from 2001 the same spec.... by the way i very happy i have this bike :)

+Tim Cunningham Nice !!!! :)
needs a bigger fuel tank.
My 04 has 17 litres. I can easily do 400 kilometres.
Thin guys on thin bikes
This though named 650 GS is not a 650 single. It is a 798 parallel twin. You can see the duel exhaust coming out from different parts of the engine in the front. Look up your engine size with the VIN # if you don't believe me.
It's a Single ....
BMW really confused things. When they finally dropped the 650 single, they made a bigger twin and still called it a 650 for some stupid reason. The exhaust looks like a twin but nothing comes out of the left side. That’s a catalytic converter and all exhaust goes accross to the right side muffler.
uhhhhh.....uhhhhhhhhh......uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Uhhh, uhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh, uhhhh…..
LOL. It's hard being on camera. They're better at theirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr uhhhhhhhhhh written content.
Had this bike for couple months and covered couple thousand miles and sold it. Do not recomend. Very snatchy, jerky natured engine not friendly for daly use. Clunky gearbox, wooden brakes (do not deserve Brembo name) and poor suspention. Do not hate BMW before anyone accuse me just saying for those who plan on buying it.
The twin spark engines were better than the earlier single ignition ones. Maybe you had that version. The engine does have an industrial feel though. I got used to it.
