Don't know if you're aware so I'm going to point out that you tend to put your finger right next to the nail gun pretty often. If that nail hits something solid it can curve back so it's best to keep your hand at least one nail length away from the gun. The room turned out awesome. I even like the wallpaper, which I'm not really fond of normally. It's probably due to the wood framing it up like a large painting. The colors work really well together.

My grandad was a professional decorator and taught me how to hang wallpaper, you lay the paper face down on a table, then you brush the paste to the rear in a herringbone shape you then loosely fold up the paper at the bottom onto itself so its easier to hang. once on the wall, you use a badger brush (long brush with badger hair) instead of a squeegee and brush the front out in a herringbone fashion again. The reason you are getting bubbles is that the wall is drinking in the paste before you the paper to it. If the paper is applied wet that capillary action pulls the paper to the wall. My grandad would have around ten sheets already pasted by folding the top and bottoms. He also started middle out of the wall and used a plumbline on the first one.

    • @JanHilt
      @JanHilt Před 2 lety +3

Amen to all above. And ... bubbles will desolve itself as the paper will let the air through. Best not to get them, but don't worrie too much.

Speaking of modern "office gadgets", I reaaaally recommend a monitor stand for your computer, it a) looks really good, b) is fun to build and can be individual and creative and c) does miracles when it comes to organizing and keeping a desk clean. Being able to store keyboard, mouse etc. underneath the monitor is amazing, plus the heigher position of the monitor is actually better for the neck.
I am only a passionate hobby woodworker, but I have built some monitor stands myself and all of them. :)

Hey man, appreciate you and the excellent content! If you're going to spend any significant amount of daytime hours in your windowless office I'd recommend proper lighting. The new school way is to use tunable white to be able to match the color temperature of the sun throughout the day. It is EXPENSIVE though. There are of course hacks that can achieve a similar result without the automatic tuning based on the sun's position. It would include a mix of colder 4000-5000K fixtures with Dim to Warm bulbs to handle the transition to the warmer temperatures. I'm sure your editing sessions are done in a dimmer lighting conditions but for the rest keep that brain happy! Looking forward to the completed project!

To add my own recommendation, I have a couple TP Link Kasa LED bulbs which have a setting for automatic brightness/color temperature, so the hue and brightness changes throughout the day. It only works on the RGB bulbs though, not on the white LED with variable color temperature bulbs, for some reason. They aren't too expensive and don't require a central hub either.

For future reference, insulating the walls would greatly reduce the echo and reverb off the drywall, the gaps between the studs are basically small echo chambers. I would even argue for more expensive foam insulation, which is denser, you might not even have to do acoustic treatment in the room for recording videos - maybe. But it would definitely soundproof those walls from anything happening in other rooms. If your CZcams channel is a side business, you could even write off the expense. A little late for you, obviously, unless you did it from the other side of the walls. But if you build rooms like this for other people, it's a good thing to consider.
But nice job on the room. I like the wood you used, the color complements the wallpaper very nicely. Good, clean finish on the carpentry. And I'm glad you re-did that upper trim over the slat door, the little overhang felt off visually against all the other clean lines. So I was glad you caught that. Very nice work.

Three years later we've turned the room into staff offices and now we don't have enough three pronged outlets for all our monitors, computers, sit-to-stand desks, printers, electric pencil sharpener, etc. $9 million later and we are still running extension cords around the perimeter of the room...at least temporarily until we can get an electrician to swap them for duplexs or combos. :) Not that you can't change yours out easily enough since you did run your own electric. Point, you just never know where things will be set up. LOVE the build!!

It’s looking awesome! I love the wallpaper and it was even Zen to watch you install it. I can totally relate to the frustrations of removing flooring and/or stuff stuck to flooring. A few years ago we redid our kitchen and that included installing hardwood flooring in our entryway. The original entryway floor was old brown hexagon tile. We removed the tile but it left so much thin set that we decided it would be easier to rip up the top layer of subfloor. One evening I decided to tackle this job and after 2 1/2 hours, I think I had pulled up about a 2‘ x 3‘ piece of subfloor. It was insane how many staples someone had put into the subfloor. I gave up for the evening. That was three or four years ago and I still get hives thinking about it but the new hardwood floor is laid and I am so grateful to be done with that project. I’m also glad I hung in there and saw that project through. Even though removing everything from your floor was a real pain you’ll be glad you did.

    1. with wallpaper each roll will have a batch number on it. MAKE SURE YOUR BATCH NUMBERS MATCH. you wont get any misalignment issues then.
    2. I've always had much better results pasting the paper even when the manufacturers say to paste the wall. every time i have seen or had bubbles in the paper it's because the wall has been pasted first.
    3. While you can measure each "drop" with a tape every time it's much easier to just offer up the roll to the previous drop and mark it there.
    4. You're right, Wallpapering can be super Zen if you find your grove.

Such a great point you made at around 8:00 about priming raw mud and new drywall! When we decided to take off the old wallpaper in our downstairs bedroom and paint, we ended up with a pock-marked wall that I eventually gave up on and covered with beadboard panels, because whoever had papered down there did so over unpainted drywall, WELDING the paper on forever! So, good tip!

Fascinating project! I have to confess that I'm in the midst of preparing the living room in my 112 year old house for paint and I discovered that prior owners painted over wallpaper. Several layers of wallpaper. So right now I hate wallpaper with the fire of a thousand suns. 😂 I also have about 27 layers of linoleum in one of the bedrooms that I want to remove, but I've been putting it off for exactly what you experienced while scraping the floor!

Just some desk ideas that I have seen other streamers use is a desk top from Ikea and Jack and Jill drawers. others have used a dining room table like I did some time ago for a huge computer desk. I hope this helps you out. Another idea would be going to your recycle store for a slab of wood for the desk top and you make your own design like a french kleet & brace. That would be a great video on its own.

Nice job 👍 it really looks great.
A tip for next time you need to strip out flooring: use acetone … lots of it in small areas at a time (it evaporates very quickly), as it soaks through the “paper” layer, it dissolves the glue. Wear a mask for the fumes, it gets heavy quickly.

I learned from a veteran painter, after mudding the walls, use an automotive sponge in clean water to wet sand the dried mud, takes seconds and you dont get tons of dust everywhere.
