Its honestly painful how much Oda has made me like Bonney. She's the most precious thing ever featured on One Piece. The panel where she is sitting alone, sobbing, wondering why her dad isn't writing to her, literally broke my heart.
She needs to join the crew/stay on Elbaph/join the revolutionaries. She needs to be protected.
And she found out he did when she saw his memories

Genuinely before egghead I didn't care about her at all. Another lady for Oda to draw in revealing clothes. Now she has has one of the deepest backstories in one piece. Incredible what Oda has done with characters he admitted he had no idea what his plan was when he introduced the supernovas
Dragon’s reasoning for staying away from Luffy is probably why Garp spend so much time away from Luffy and Ace while they were growing up, as he was probably trying to keep them safe as well. After all Garp was willing to let Sengoku take him down so he wouldn’t interfere with Ace’s execution

Probably something happened during Dragon and Garp's parental relationship, which had lead both to have this same realization.
Sucks that in the Live Action Garp, for how much he wants to sell it to us as a way to test Luffy's motivation, he is super apprehensive.
Knowing the LA is semi canonical due to Oda's supervision, I don't believe the two Garps would diverge so much. It's more logical Oda would rather slightly recton his Garp to make it be a nicer gramps.
We already saw something in this direction with the whole Koby thing.

Same rule I said many years ago: Luffy calls her correctly (Bonney), so she qualifies to be a crew member. She having a flashback adds 1 more point to that.
Bonney is the living embodiment of “Multiverse Theory” due to her distorted future ability.

This fandom always overlooked Bonny's power but now its clear she actually has one of top 3 fruits in verse, it literally breaks the canon of the verse to make it so people are a lot more powerful or a lot weaker.
It was heartwarming to see how many people cared for Bonney. Her conception was so tragic but the people around her gave her all the love that she deserves.

Dragon’s comment about children being a parent’s weakness makes complete sense. It’s always been clear that Dragon cares about Luffy. Why do you think his first spoken line is “A pirate, eh? Not a bad idea”? Dragon is sacrificing everything he cares about for the safety of the world. That’s what makes him so interesting and why I want his backstory. It was great to see Stussy and Stella talking and to see more of who Stussy really is. Also, Alpha can go to hell! That scene with Kuma, Stella, and Stussy talking about writing Bonney nearly made me cry. And I’m not a crier. I like Bonney saying "Give me a ______ future". I would love it if from here on Distorted Future had sub-names like "Distorted Future: Buccaneer" or "Distorted Future: Nika”. Prediction: Bonney is going to tell Luffy the true name of his devil fruit because she knows about the rubbery body. I don’t know if this is a Hot Take or not because I love this backstory and Kuma is now my second favorite One Piece character but I’m ready to get back to the main story.

My favorite thing about this chapter were the parallel's between Bonney and Luffy.
Both started their journey the same way;
Defeating an enemy with a single punch

Also I say Bonney has a Carrot's chance of joining the crew; both have an inherited will, both have combat prowess enough to hold their own, both have/will be saved by the Straw Hats, and both have an applicable spot on the crew that isn't really necessary but would be a nice spot for them. I can see her joining, but I tend to be leaning towards Oda giving her a sudden "Out" for her to go her own way.

The difference I see between Carrot and Bonney is Luffy saving Carrot was part of them saving all of the Minks. Carrot did not have a dark backstory (at least not yet) that extended to this era where the Strawhat's helped resolve. Bonney does. Her problem is on a personal level. Not saying that Bonney will join but just noting the difference.
I really don't see bonney joining the crew. She's a child and a wild card with extraordinary free will just like Luffy. What the straw hats need is a diplomat like vivi. But I see your side of it

I remember back when people said the same exact thing about Hancock, Marguerite, Rebecca, Carrot, and then Yamato. I mean, not to say that it won't happen, but its funny how for the last 15 years I've seen the fanbase jump from one female character to the next for "next nakama", and everytime they said "it makes perfect sense for her to join".

It annoyed me so much like wtf, why can’t everyone stretch if apparently you just need to want it. So frustrating the only thing that could save it somewhat is when bonnie has the actual rubber fruit and it only seems like she aged others by stretching they skin but even that would not work. Very frustrating her ability was already interesting enough.
P.s.: I just thought that maybe in the future Bonney is around luffy and gets stretchy (like everyone on long ring island “mysteriously”) and because she at some point in the future can stretch she can take the future form and do it but I don’t like that either tbh
@@inkognito3145 it hasnt been explained yet so we dont really know if he can actually stretch or is he just making his body bigger with age age fruit somehow. But if it is that everyone can stretch its probably because bonney is just few people that know about nika.
She ages herself into an alternate reality version of herself that has rubber powers. It’s kinda like when she aged luffy up and he was a decrepit old man instead of a more energetic one, more in line with how we know him.
I think it's becoming more of a multiverse power. Not as OP as Jobu Tupaki from EEAAO, but in the similar vein. She can try alternate futures and alternate timelines based on what she wants. Because aging up requires going through certain experiences and life choices that she can make in an instant. Same would be the explanation for NDE or Buccaneer Bonney

I can see Bonnie joining the Crew. Even if other People had more thought out Backstories the pace at which we learn about her makes me feel like she is here to stay. And MAYBE Sanji even finds some way to not be as pervy anymore when he sort of has a child

He literally dove at Bonney and pushed her out of the way of the Pacifista's attack and told her off saying "I know he looks like your dad, but you can't just freeze up like that. We're in battle right now." without going all pervy gaga mode. So...yeah, something in Sanji seems to know not to hit on Bonney. Almost as if he may know she's only just a child.

So honestly regarding Bonney joining the crew I had the same thought when I finished this chapter. Throughout this whole flashback it didn't even occur to me for her to be a potential crew member, but after seeing this one and getting so much focus I think it is possible. If not a full crew member than at least part of the grand fleet/allies. The only thing she is missing to be a full crew member at this point is probably a real dream to strive for. Like right now in the flashback her dream is just to see her father again. And as a lot of us suspect, that is going to happen soon in Egghead. Unless Oda really pulls a fast one on us and shows Kuma in a totally different location. So what would be her dream after finding Kuma? I think it would be really interesting though, to have her find a dream to strive for during this arc. Like maybe Kuma gets his memories back when he comes to Egghead but Saturn ends up finally killing Kuma for real and so her dream becomes to take down the World Government that did all these horrible things to her and her father? I dunno, interesting thought though.
I feel like the reason Bonney was so happy when she saw Luffy, before attacking Kizaru (you know, when Luffy asked why she was all off a sudden so happy) that she either A: started connecting the dots that Luffy is Nika, or B: she’s realizing how amazing her dad is

The flashback is so tragic that I want it to end but also I want to see more of Kuma before he was completely converted. The emotions are all over the place, Internet Man😭.
Some new thoughts:Probably the reason Oda hasn't shown Kizaru and Kuma go duo in combat despite being in the same unit in the Marines , is probably because after introducing Kizaru's power in Sabaody , he realized how disghustingly broken they'd be fighting together against any enemy.
I would really love for Bonney to join the crew. I know we had the rug pulled out from underneath us twice now (Carrot and Yamato), but Bonney just feels like such a slam dunk choice for joining the Straw Hats. She has a dream to pursue (traveling the world, avenging her father, help Nika), a role (apprentice), tragic backstory, useful moveset, and adds to the dynamic of the crew by being both the only child on the crew and the first female member since Robin. Honestly you can already kind of feel her considering joining the crew when she talks about how strong and good of a chef Sanji is. It just makes so much sense for how much Kuma's done for the Straw Hats that they return that kindness and adopt his daughter into their crew.
I really hope she fills that role too but my only real worry is her motivation. Everyone else has some reason to reach Raftel or something that would be accomplished along the way. Her motivation at this point would be save Kuma and get revenge on the world government. I’m not sure the help Nika motive is enough to fit in with that.
@@jewishjesus2 Usopp's motivation is as simple as "become a brave warrior". Bonney's main dream could be just "travel the world like my father wanted to do with me" and that would be enough. On top of that you have her connection to Nika and the fact that the Straw Hats are seemingly destined to bring an end to the WG which is something she would want after what happened to her and her father.
Between Bonney and Luffy, there would be a constant food shortage.... far worse than they've already had
I think your discussion on Bonney/Luffy's powers being essentially limitless due to childlike imatination is basically the whole pie(or cake).
Our heroes are the ones who never give up on their dreams and actively choose to follow their hearts.

To everyone angry at how Alpha callously ripped out the letters of Kuma sent to Bonney: Bonney already saw what her father had written after touching the memory bubble stored within Vegapunk's secret chamber.

I actually don't believe that. To relive every moment of his life - to see every letter written - would take as much time as there was in his life from the moment he first breathed til the end. More likely it was a highlight reel of his highs and lows - enough for her to know he loved her, but not in such detail as to see every letter he wrote her.

The letters wouldn't have been part of those memories because those words were only for Bonney and if she was never going to see the memories, he would not have included them.

Are these letters for anyone else? No.
Could someone not-Bonney see these memories? Yes.
Will Bonney see these memories? No.
Add letters to memories? No.
That said, I think he's carrying one last letter to her and when he dies (if he does, but it's seeming likely) she'll find it and be able to finally hear the things he wanted her most to know, and be able to come to terms with his death. And know, with his own words, that he loved her most of all.
Luffy wasn't noticed by the marines until Aarlong park. If Bonney made her escape before that, then it could explain why the WG didn't care about Luffy as much. Bonney is Kumas daughter and they know about inherited will since they've been fighting it for centuries. They might have figured that Kuma told Bonney about it and found her the Nika Fruit. If Alpha came back freaking out about Bonney stretching they might have assumed that Bonney got the fruit. They didn't really go after Luffy until he defeated 2 warlords and declared war on them.
1100 chapters in and Oda still just tugs and pulls on heartstrings like i dont think any other author could with a series this long. Bonnies story feels nothing like any of the other "princesses" we got and Kuma might just go down as one of the best characters in manga. Oda is getting better and thats terrifying
I don't think she imitated Nika's power, I suspect her 'Distorted Future' was a controlled hypothetical variant of what she is capable of.
Such as 'I will train my left arm exclusively for twenty years' and twenty years in the future we have a monster left arm, then she decides not to do that.
Connie really gets the “con” to shine this chapter. But also, Connie really is Bonney’s grandma, love her
I just hope that we follow Bonney along a little longer. I have a feeling we are going to get a continuation of the Sakazuki scene to explain how she escaped before we’re through.

Idk about her joining the strawhats, but I definitely want to see her hang out as her normal young self with the other strawhats! Currently she's going through a lot and has to put on a hard shell. I want to see her trust the others and let go and be a child again, atleast for a while. She deserves to have a childhood and after she's been robbed from so many things, I don't want her to need to be "an adult" all the time

What I liked about the new chapter, was the flashback with Kuma and Bonney, where Kuma told Bonney that it was said that the Sun God Nika could turn his body into rubber. So, seeing him watching Luffy, I have a feeling that Kuma now knows that Luffy is the Sun God he's admired since childhood. That could also be why he kept supporting Luffy. Not just because he's Dragon's son, but because Kuma believes that Luffy is Nika (and ofc we now know he's right).
Now I'm going to go rewatch Thriller Bark knowing Kuma watched with pride that his hero the sun God was alive and was beating on Moria a shadow monster who stole so many shadows to create his zombie army. Kind of gives a whole new meaning to that arc knowing that's why Kuma let everyone live and gave Zoro a taste of what he needed to become.
Favorite part of the chapter is definitely the last few pages. From Bonney seeing the sun for the first time and then drawing inspiration from the Sun God to defeat Alpha. Bonney is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters.
One thing I had been wondering since the revaluation that Bonney would be cured at 10, and was also 10 at Sabaody was how a 10 year old got such a high bounty so fast. Escaping the World Government when one of the Gorosei was completely aware of you explains that nicely.
I’d really love for Bonny to join the crew. She and Luffy have a really fun sibling dynamic and I genuinely feel like her inherited will matches up with Luffy’s.
I was never a big fan on the Carrot or Yamato joins the crew theories cause it never made sense to me. We love the characters but do they fill that role? I never thought so. Bonney might actually find that niche. I like that you mentioned the Apprentice role, we see a lot of crews that take on children to guide them and those characters tend to become big names in the future. Having Bonney's true age be 12 could be an interesting crew dynamic and her fruit is wide open with possibilities just like our other 4 fruit users. I also try to look ahead to end of arc, assuming Bonney is alive and well and Kuma's role is wrapped up would she want to stop adventuring and end her journey or keep it going as a 12 year old with only 3 years out of her solitude? I could also see the grand fleet option, as even if we don't take her on the crew she will always be an ally out in the world somewhere.
She will definitely want to keep going. But what she does will rely on whether her crew is still alive or not.
Bonnie as an apprentice... I mean, it is amongst the best options for the position out there, considering she wouldn't hold the crew back from her broken DF abilities, that's what I always thought to be the problem with an apprentice, they wouldn't be useful to the plot, specially in this final saga with not much room to get stronger.
I just realised Kuma must have known that Luffy at least could be Nika with his knowledge about the rubber body.
This in combination with Luffy being the kid of his Idol Dragon I wonder how he felt.

@@lewisaino It has been heavily implied in Bleach that we ain't talking about " races" at all, but souls in general. Rather, as the hell arc oneshot suggest, its more of a cosmic question of whether your set of powers comes from hell or not. Shinigami and Hollows have similar powers, approached from the opposite direction, evident by the fact that Kubo confirmed that hollowification and arrancar are the same concept with a different start. Hell arc oneshot hinted that these powers are sourced from hell. Hachi mentioning that Orihime's powers remind him of a zanpakuto is a credit to that too. Then you have Quincy, whose powers do not come from hell. Fullbringers are an umbrella term and their power can come from either.

I hope Bonney joins the crew. Given the events of Egghead, the fact she lost her crew, what's happening with Kuma right now, I just don't see anywhere else she could go? It's not like she can go back to Sorbet after leaving. She's been cooped up her whole life and wants to explore. She's not going to go with the Marines. She most likely won't stay alongside Vegapunk or stay cooped up in Elbaf. We're given the classic tragic backstory that we got for each crew member. Her powers can make Luffy young again after Gear 5. I am like 90% certain that she's joining the crew.
I've wanted her on the crew since we first met her. I thought she'd be a great crewmate from the get-go - she has so much character and would absolutely jive with them.
More likely that she is the 'princess' of the arc like Shirahoshi/Rebecca/Law/Momonosuke. We've wanted Carrot and Yamato to become crew and we saw how that turned out

Bonney can’t/won’t go back to Sorbet (it’ll make her a target of the WG/she wants to explore). The only way out of joining that I see is Vegapunk fixing Kuma to be with Bonney. That would make me happier tbh but I doubt it’ll happen considering how much damage Kuma took so far.
@@evilmonkey9196 Writing any of them off as mere damsels in distress is bullshit, too. Vivi wasn't waiting for a 'prince' to save her, she was dealing with her shit. Rebecca was fighting every day to stay alive. Even Shirahoshi helped handle shit once she realised she could and was dealing with a terrible situation as best she could. They weren't just sitting around waiting for someone to save them.
Bonney is a pirate captain with a hefty bounty, who made her way to the New World with just her crew. She's handling her shit. And she's just as likely to join the crew as damsel in distress Zoro was when we first met him tied up in the marine yard, ready for execution.
One could actually argue that most of the strawhats were more 'princesses' of their own arcs than some of the princesses that 'needed saving'. God knows, Zoro, Chopper, Robin, Nami and Brook were definitely damsels in need of saving. XD

I feel like Bonney is gonna be the crew's cabin girl at this point. I can totally see her having a little-sister/fan girl relationship with Luffy - not at the level of Barto, but I mean he's literally the god that she reveres.
Also, Sanji hasn't simped for Bonney yet, right? Like the closest thing to any untoward behavior was him saying that his "lady radar" knew where she was, but he hasn't hit on her yet. Does he instinctively know? Does he know he knows, or is he just like, "Huh. I feel nothing. Odd."
Sanji did say at the start of the arc that he was thrown off by her adult appearance because he "sensed" a child.
I don't know the entirety of the lore nearly as well as some other people to make an educated argument, but I know that Bonnie going through all of this, to ultimately go and live her life with Nika himself would be so cathartic.

She can just become Nika though? Luffy is no longer unique in his Nikaness.

With Vegapunk foreshadowing Kuma being ordered to kill a child, Oda now has a fantastic opportunity to have Kuma arrive at Egghead and Saturn order Kuma to kill his own daughter. What a fantastic way to immediately make Saturn even more hated than even Saint Charlos.
I initially rejected your theory of Bonney being a crew member but the more I think of it the more thematic sense it makes to have her as the weird apprentice.
Luffy probably doesn’t want or need another of himself on the crew but it’s probably what the world and we deserve.
Feels a bit early for Straw Hats to take on apprentices. You can't raise children when your captain is basically still a child himself. Give it a couple more decades and then we'll see.
Plus, on the whole I don't feel like we'll be seeing any more new core crewmembers now that Luffy revealed his dream. That felt like a really big milestone like that to me. At most we'll see Bonney take on a guest role similar to Vivi and Law.
I'd say Vivi now has the most chances to rejoin the crew since she has nowhere to go and imu and the elders will want to have her too
I simply think Bonney's attack is a tribute to Nika just like Luffy's Red Hawk is a tribute to Ace. It makes no sense how Luffy can create fire but who cares. It's a cool attack and I feel that way with Bonney. She is channeling her inner Nika and it doesn't make total sense but it's one piece and some people's abilities are never as straight forward as they seem.

@@TheSukari She can control the age of others too, and normally paramecias affect only the person OR the environment (others), unless it's awakened. Makes me consider it's actually a logia, but depends on Oda to caracterize time as a nature force or something similar and she would need to suffer from the same as Luffy not knowing what exactly her fruit does and only controlling age because of that. Anyways I think it's more probable to be a paramecia as well.

I think the reason Yamato and carrot didn’t join the crew is so Bonney could join instead bc she has such a connection to the straw hats through kuma and nika
i don't think bonney can have other peoples devil fruit abilities, so far we've only been shown that its her body structure that changes, into a bigger/smaller, newer/older person, so i don't think she could become a dragon like kaido, but i believe she only made her arm get bigger (and weird looking) to deliver the punch, doesn't necessarily mean her body has become rubbery

I honestly think that Kuma knew that Luffy was Nikka after he saw him.
With Bonney's fruit getting weaker as she ages, maybe she has a move like "distorted past" that allows her to access a distorted past version of herself. So her power in reverse. And she's just saving the move for when its appropriate.
Seeing 10 year old Bonney using Luffy's gear 3rd took me back to when Luffy used gear 3rd for the first time and turned into a kid.
My thoughts & opinions of the chapter:
1. After reading the conversation that Dragon had with Kuma, I now wonder if anyone would still intend to belittle Dragon?! I even bet his wife would have said the same thing to her friends if she was in his shoes!
2. When reading the part on how Bonney could imitate a part of Luffy's Nika powers, I now wonder she her Age Age Fruit can allow her to replicate almost any DF powers she wants? If so, then you might say that Teach was a fool for not trying to take it for himself, even though he may not have been aware of its true potential.
Since the beginning of Kumas flash back I called Bonney for Nakama but omg I've never been more proud to have a favorite character before her being the only female worst generation member and being called big eater Bonney touches my foodie heart I love ❤️ this arc

It's highly unlikely that Bonney got to read those letters, sadly. The memories of Kuma's life that she experienced were likely a highlight reel of the most tragic parts of his life. She'd have learned of his sacrifices, but not every moment of his life (because reliving that would take just as long as his life to the point he made that memory bubble). He wouldn't have included the letters because his intent was that she would never see these memories, and he wouldn't share those precious thoughts that were for her alone (and that he assumed she received) with anyone else who may have stumbled on his past.
Thus, no, she probably never would be able to read the letters. BUT! I have a theory that he is carrying one final letter to her, that she will receive on Egghead when he comes in to save her one last time, and that it will give her closure and help her heal from his imminent death.
