  • Continuing with my exploration of the Watford DC lines and the adjacent West Coast Main Line, we move north to Harrow & Wealdstone. This is the northern terminus of the Bakerloo Line with 6tph turning round here. The London Overground service is now 4 tph through to Watford Junction. Most Overground services are now operated by the fleet of 710s ordered specially for this route. Two 378s are also required to operate the full service. On the main line the Avanti West Coast 390s and Voyagers pass through at speed. LNW services operate on both the fast and slow lines with some making a call. The Southern service to Milton Keynes also calls. There was a lot of rain falling so I was confined to filming from under the shelter of the canopies. I'll try to return later in the year when it should be drier, to capture more action on the main lines from the platform ends.

    I was a kid in Wealdstone in the early 50s when the Belmont branch was still there and there was a coal merchant siding. There was scrap from the fatal rail crash too. Apparently in WW2 there was anti aircraft wagons that ran on the siding. Until late 50s Oerlikon ex LNWR electric units ran on what’s now overground lines.

    I really appreciate that you made an effort to keep people out the footage as much as possible, and I loved the commentary that you kept going at the bottom! There's a lot of that stuff that I didn't know, especially about the Jubilee Line having used 1972 stock.
    Your video is very good!

    Nice to see the London Overground Class 710s in service on the Euston-Watford DC Line. What about filming the Class 710s on the Lea Valley Lines, Gospel Oak-Barking Line and Romford-Upminster Line. Plus is some of the Class 378s been transferred to East London Line and some still operating on the Euston-Watford Junction service.

      How comes that some of Southern Class 377 trains can stop at Harrow & Wealdstone but not London Northwestern Railway Class 350 when operating to Northampton, Rugby, Birmingham New Street and Stoke-on-Trent.

      Boogies Trains Indeed. Can’t wait to see 1 Class 710 train working on the Romford-Upminster shuttle and to ride on them. I will take a ride on the Class 710 on the Liverpool Street-Chingford, Cheshunt and Enfield Town and Euston-Watford Junction in the summer as I have rode on the Class 710 on the Gospel Oak-Barking Line. I heard rumours that 1 Class 315 or Class 317 might be kept for the Romford-Upminster line.

    That turnback siding looks a tight fit..... Does the driver walk through the train to change ends, or is there a designate walkway outside the train?

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  Před 4 lety +2

      I didn't see anyone outside of the train so my assumption is that they walk through. The turnround shows on RTT as an ECS so you can see how long is allowed and also how quickly it can be done if necessary.

      @BoogiesTrains  Před 4 lety

      There have been some 378/2s on the East London Line for a long time so it is hard to know which extra ones have been transferred. The bulk of the 378/2s are still on the Stratford to Richmond and Clapham Junction routes.

    • @BoogiesTrains

      There is no need for more services, certainly in the off peak. LO have recently gone up to 4 tph which is all that the traffic requires.

    Yep, great idea, put live rails on the GROUND carrying hundreds of volts. If there's a cheap way of doing something you can rely on the English to find it.

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  Před 4 lety

      The idea was imported from the USA. The LBSCR and L&Y both went for overhead electrification. Due to the use of their tracks by the Underground, the LNWR and LSWR were both obliged to adopt third and fourth rail systems. The Southern then adopted the third rail system as standard due to the extent of the LSWR electrification. The smaller LBSCR electrified network was converted in the 1920s.

    • @johnrauner2515
      @johnrauner2515 Před 4 lety

      @@BoogiesTrains The USA weren't running live third rails at ground level accros open country. Big difference between that and in sub surface tunnels. These things should have been ripped up decades ago. Total hyprocracy that a country as anal as the UK about health and safety can at the same time continue to operate these accidents waiting to happen.

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  Před 4 lety

      It was the extension of the Underground services out to the suburbs that left us with this legacy. The District and Bakerloo are the most obvious cases. The Metropolitan also built its own line out to the countryside as well as the Hammersmith and City.

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  Před 4 lety

      There are still a couple of 378s in use on the DC lines as the order for 710s was only enough for the 3tph service. The service is now 4tph.

  • @karimscaterovic5413
    @karimscaterovic5413 Před 4 lety

    Is the overground a Class 345, Class 701 or Class 720 I would assume it is the Class 345 because it’s used for the TfL Rail but this one has 4 cars

    • @BoogiesTrains
      @BoogiesTrains  Před 4 lety

      The Overground is class 710. They are Aventras so the same family as the 345s. There will eventually be a lot of classes and sub classes of Aventras in use by various operators across the network. There is some information about the current work in progress at Derby in the latest Modern Railways magazine. You can also find information on Wikipedia.
