Why doesn't Jack just sell his services?! Instead of losing Shen Gong Wu he can just make so much money that he can buy the world.
So ramundo (idk how to spell it ) his fear is supposed to be a jellyfish I believe and those can be terrifying depending on the type
@@JohnDoe-iw7zc I believe it is a Man-o-war. Raimundo was originally a surfer. So he likely got stung as a little kid.
czcams.com/users/shortsBxqEpXp8sYQ?si=999bJdI_JstVu4XU I feel this accurate but I'm curious what katnappe stuff they're reffering too
@aliastheabnormal fair I know a guy who was a wet welder and he said that jellyfish and whales where the scariest things down there
He also acted like sharks where basically dogs
Jack fear of being flush down a toilet is actually a fear of rejection. At least that what the psychology world would say. It does it fact fit his character.
Not gonna lie, as a little kid who wet the bed a lot, I read it very differently.
That’s really interesting I never thought of it that way. I wonder if they thought of that when writing that part, or if they just thought a toilet would be funny, or both
I think its more about being so useless as a literal piece of shit, like his biggest fear is being incompetent which explains why he tries so hard.
I'm afraid of that too (always have been) and huh, I am also very afraid of rejection. It's not my GREATEST fear but it's on the list.
yo where daduq is my coment ?
jack not moving a muscle while his mouth jumps out of his face to yell is one of my favorite visual gags
It’s really good!
42:46 Is an imagine that has snuck with me for nearly 20 years as the perfect expression of fear, confusion, and finding out just how much you fucked up.
You'd figure the reverse mirror would make the glasses see the past...
That is a fair point, but the video is partly wrong on how the future thing worked. Omi didn't see his own future but bad, he saw Vlad future but with him and his friends as stand in
That’s interesting I forgot how it was vlads future because of that. I love the shen gong wu because they can justify so many outcomes combining the shen gong wu, but it’s how they write the plot that make it so special
Or like how the mirror makes the loopy gas return to the person casting it, rather than changing the gas to be helpful or something
@@XenunnakiI mean the reversing mirror's always been inconsistent in this show. Sometimes it reverses the effect of something and something it reflects the trajectory back where the attack came from
@@paddykelly2851my biggest takeaway/best explanation is that the mirror just has the power of reversal in all (or most) its forms. So it can either do the opposite the ability of an item, reverse the direction of the attack or show an opposite direction of a persons future. This probably has a lot of holes in it but it’s the best way I can explain it
I do kinda wish there was an episode where somehow a Wu appears in an ice cream shop and Omi refuses to challenge Jack, INSISTING that they have that ice cream RIGHT NOW.
I would love that as a callback and to see them chill more outside of showdowns
Or an eating contest as the Showdown.
I love how there's so many enemy factions in Xiaolin Showdown without it feeling too bloated
They do a great job cycling characters in and out, or separating them enough with the showdowns
I think a lot of that is HOW they do it.
They don't just add new characters to make new factions.
The new factions are usually the same OLD characters, just changing sides and mish-mashing characters together.
It's not just "The jack faction, the Chase Faction, the Panda-Bubba Faction"
Cuz sometimes It's Jack and Panda-Bubba, or sometimes Chase and Jack, or sometimes Kat-Nappe and Chase.
Rather than add new characters and bloat the roster, they just change up who's in what faction.
Which TOTALLY makes sense cuz.. most of the factions are villain factions, and villains have pretty much NO Loyalty to each other.
And even then, the heroes are even willing to join with villains to stop other villains or threats.
Which, imo, is pretty genius writing.
@@TheShinjiakamoto Oh that made me think of another advantage. because villains are joining sides it means time is typically not spent on just a single villain.
The Omi thing is cool because if you watch the episode where Wuya builds the castle you can see the frozen Omi pop up in the rubble.
I just went back and rewatched that part since another comment mentioned that too and I can’t believe I missed him just flying out of the sky like that!
Am I understanding correctly that they had a reference to Omi having frozen himself in an episode _before_ he was sent back in time in the first place? Or do I have my episode order mixed up? How far back is it, out of curiosity? That could potentially be a huge amount of foresight on the part of the writers. Which, I mean, is kinda needed to make a good season-long puppetmaster plotline like we get with Chase here.
@@riluna3695 You can see a frozen Omi before it is revealed that he went back in time and froze himself. It's a cool little easter egg, but happens quickly that most people wouldn't have noticed it. I happened to notice it since this arc was reran a lot when it originally aired.
@@zeroinked That's really cool. Reminds me of Futurama, which funnily enough also involved being frozen for countless years. There's a visual in episode one that doesn't pay off for like...in fact I'll check. Holy cow, late into season FOUR. That's dedication. I also just learned about a second reference to the same thing three episodes before the reveal. Love that show.
I would have loved there being a joke when Old Man Jack and Old Man Omi meet, they surprisingly reveal they are friends because at some point in the future they settled their differences and up to this point point in the episode Old Man Jack was helping young Jack simply in a fit of senile moments. It would make for a lot of funny bits with their younger versions refusing to believe such a friendship could exist.
As a mechanic class, Jack technically should get all the wins his robots achieve.
I generally agree with this like the robot ninja that steals the shen gong wu in Japan but it’s hard to judge when they gain sentience and betray him lol
Unless they defeat or betray him
@@Colby2D I think betraying him is a good indicator as to when they should be separate. But yeah, otherwise then its still Jack's win
24:22 I think that was a jellyfish it makes sense because he is a surfer he'd be scared of getting stung while in the water
I don't know why it didn't register as a jellyfish to me LOL
you are correct
@@Colby2D Jellyfish are nad to be stung by. They been known to hospitalized and end small children
It's not just a jellyfish, it's a Brazilian Man-of-War, one of the deadliest jellyfish known to man. It's indigenous to the waters of Brazil, Raymundo's home country.
Edit: So after looking it up, I need to correct myself: It's actually the Portuguese Man-of-War. It can still be found pretty much anywhere there are tropical to subtropical waters and are notorious for washing up on beaches, including the beaches of Brazil.
@Thenonymous1 Oh, I didn't know the exact species, but that makes it even worse. Then yeah, if it's the most deadliest and native to his home country, then his fear is beyond justified
Colby: Omi freezes himself for 15 hundred years.
In my head: Aang wishes.
I really feel like the premise of this show would have been wasted if the writers were afraid to have the good guys lose a lot. As a kid I always loved that you never truly knew if the heroes would win in the end, especially when a bunch of cartoons were airing at the time where they always beat the bad guys.
It definitely separated it from villain of the week shows because a lot of the wins and losses carried over into future episodes
Really it's a great thing that that the characters don't rely on a single item as a mainline power, it really let's them branch out and lose, because if they only have there item they use in every fight as a wager, they can't lose without that lose being nullified somehow, which gets old fast, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a rough draft someone where they all had an item they had to use for there abilities
Thing is, if the villains never won anything then they wouldn't have any Shen Gong Wu to wager. And if they don't have any Shen Gong Wu to wager, then you don't get any Xiaolin Showdowns.
The format of the show required Jack to win every now and then.
I think the natural progression of this is all the super hero shows where everyone gets unalived.
Sure allowing the villains some wins helps, but overdoing the evil side winning can backfire/
'points at W.I.T.C.H'
I can't believe I never pieced together the man's name was CHASE YOUNG because he wanted eternal youth. Man, I really did not pay attention to this stuff as a kid.
It's actually crazy how earlier today I found and watched the season 1 part, then the youtube algoritm just gave me part 2 while scrolling. Thank you youtube algoritm!
I'm happy to hear that, thank you!
Yes
Same!
Same
What’s crazy about that? Seems like a reasonable thing for the algorithm to do?
Ok, what Omi did to the snowman was downright body horror
Yeah it was kinda gross, but scoring a goal like that goes kinda hard
Nobody talks about how Wuya’s resurrection broke the Reversing Mirror, but somehow the puzzle box managed to fix that, too.
I was thinking like “so do shen gong wu really break or nah”
@@Colby2D when wuya gets sealed and everything is restored we can see the reversing mirror get fixed that scene is also in this video at 3:52 but its such a small detail like frozen omi at the end of season 1 that its easy to miss
That was probably just a regular squirrel from when he was small
I was scared of getting attacked by squirrels as a little kid too so I feel that
Well smaller. But I figured it was the squirrel from the Mala Mala Jong episode or the Shard of Lightning prank the Jacks did to the monks
@@Colby2DIn the robot Jack episode, you can also see Omi freak out when a squirrel shows up in his hand.
35:38 - THERE I AM, GARY! THERE I AM!
This kind acknowledgement is worth more than a pin, heart, or reply. Which I also tend to appreciate.
Clay and Kimiko: "Remember when we did stuff?"
I figured that Omi staying as Chase's subordinate even after he got his chi back wasn't just about him being too rigid in sticking to his word, but that he was magically bound to. Chase being able to transform him into a cat suggests he had an inherent power over Omi.
24:23 that looks like a Portuguese Man'o war. A jellyfish that stings like hell, and the terror of surfers
Yep. Although it's not a jellyfish. It's more like a sponge with jellyfish capabilities
I was gonna say, raimundo is a surfer, jellyfish and man'o wars are basically surfers bane
11:21 What's funny is that the showdown rules were "last boat afloat", so Rai should have been disqualified when his boat sank. But now the rules were "race to the finish line".
I almost mentioned this in the video, but I thought “this videos almost an hour and a half and I have no idea why they changed the rule, but it’s so weird they didn’t just say race in the first place”
I mean was the plank of wood part of his boat? If it was then technically you could say his boat didn't sink because of that plank
@@happynoname2488 Ah, technicalities.
@@happynoname2488don't go all ship of Theseus on us
Chinese culture traditionally has 5 elements not 4. The theory goes that pretty far into production Jack was supposed to join the gang as the Dragon of Metal.
But they use Greek Elements, that would mean Raymundo needs to become Wood
@@burner555 Actually they do end up having a Wood element user in the sequel series Xiaolin Chronicles. His name is (no joke)- Boris Antonio Rolf Jean-Pierre Gaulle LeGrand IV.
But everybody calls him Ping Pong.
I had no idea Chase was controversial. I always found him cool as a kid but it's been a while since I watched the show. Though I have to say, watching this retrospective made me see how eerie Chase was in regards to Omi.
Chase could almost be compared to date line predators; first they compliment you (Chase sees Omi as the 'Chosen One'), drive a wedge between your loved ones (Chase knew Omi would be at odds with his friends), trick you into doing something to lose your inhibitions like alcohol (Chase knew the Yin Yo-Yo would make Omi evil and come to his side) and from that experience, use it to guilt them into staying with you (Omi wasn't himself when he gave his word and Chase abused that honour).
Also how can you not mention the new Xiaolin suits for the Showdowns? They still hold up to this day.
Yeah chase is definitely pretty manipulative, and someone pointed out its kinda hypocritical he didn’t accept clay as being evil when sabini took over, but accepts possessed Omi who swears to be evil. And I like the new outfits they remind me of kids next door!
2:40 Dang, skipped over the one time the Jackbots were effective - taking down a single golem
Trueeee. I love the yesbot though
I'm so glad you made a season 2. I was worried because of your "small" channel that it might be a one off.made a comment last video about how Jack Splicer is the best character on the show.
To add onto that, he is the kind of "evil" that is likable. He doesn't want to murder the monks, he could, but doesn't. He just wants to rule the world, a simple man with simple wants. Though shoutout to Wuya who didn't just backstab and betray Raymundo after getting power, she seemed like she actually liked him.
Xiaolin Showdown is probably the last children's show I've seen where they humanized the villains. . . and of course, let them win sometimes too. Modern movies can learn a lot from this. Looking at you Marvel and Star Wars.
I thought it was sweet Wuya kinda wanted to learn how to play air hockey even though she was just gonna have the golems play with raimundo. And i appreciate you watching this video too! I don’t know if it’s typical for smaller channels to jump from topic to topic or to stick to series more at a time, but I’m still trying to decide what direction to take the channel so your feedback is really appreciated
I heard he was going to bring the ultimate evil guy from history and went "oh God, don't tell me they're gonna put Hitler in this show"
16:28 I just realised the name Christie for that cheerleader bot is the same as the creator Christie Hui that is a cute funny reference lol
She’s got the cheerleader robot and the fountain of hui lol
Super cool how old Shen Gong Wu not only reappear but get new uses and combinations and are even treated as worthwhile prizes episodes after their debut.
It feels so real to see them come back, like I feel like it makes sense they fight for these because they’re clearly a big deal with reusable value
Chase Young is my favorite Villain on this show, mainly because Honor is still part of his creed. Like, turning into a monster from the Dragon Soup and 'selling his soul' didn't stop his decision to remain honorable.
We see more in depth into Chase Young in Season 3, but with it comes a theory... which I will share on your season 3 video, because it involves Season 3 spoilers.
I feel like he works as a repressed good guy, like he wants to be good so bad. And I look forward to the season 3 comments, thanks!
48:02 And from that day forward, Jack was forever known as "based" proving he isn't actually that evil
He wants to rule the world as the most based person, not to be evil and make others suffer. Truly a king
I love the thought of Jack Spicer and the xaolin apprentices being like “hey, there aren’t any shen gong wu revealing themselves. Wanna get ice cream?”
Xaolin Showdown did so many neat things that I appreciate moreso as an adult.
Edit: Also, something I never thought about until now. Omi was always genuinely excited at the thought of Jack fighting for good. He may have even had a problem fighting against Jack because he genuinely wanted Jack on their side.
my god Chase is literally that "guy cackling at people through a window" meme format.
That director is 100% a Shatner impression!
Ok thank you for confirming because I thought I was going crazy lol
@@Colby2D See, I thought it was supposed to be Goldbloom
@@Colby2D When Family Guy did cutaway gags to Star Trek parodies, they ALWAYS had Shatner's version of Captain James T. Kirk talk like that. It wasn't that exaggerated on the original show and he doesn't talk like that now, but it is still one of the main jokes about Shatner within the Hollywood bubble.
It's hilarious how Jack goes all Bill and Ted with the Sands of Time
I like thay jack actually gets more wins then you would think out of a cartoon villain
There are so many that get 0 wins, and villains like jack or team rocket are some of my favorite characters ever
47:08 worst of all, they were kinda right about not beliving in Raimundo about the volcano, because DON'T exist any type of volcano in Brasil, ZERO volcanos
42:48 - "Which begs the question: why would she want the world to be water if she could be a monster otherwise?"
Because she doesn't want anyone to see her that way? Whether or not it's because she's more comfy luring idiots in than brute forcing or it's genuine insecurity is beyond me, though.
Plus I imagine it’s more convenient since a mermaid in a flooded earth has an easier time moving than a legless giant on dry land.
I loved Chase Young because he's so weirdly neutral for calling himself Evil. He doesn't really seem do go around doing much to hurt others, he just wants his immortality and servants/apprentices. I don't remember if he fights alongside the team against some greater threat. But he feels like that 'evil' character who will side with anyone if it is in his personal best interest or it will simply amuse him. He doesn't monologue often, he doesn't reveal his plans unless it is a trick, he's a smart villain. I don't want him to join the good guys, I want him to be an omnipresent threat that the team will never know what his actual plans are. I like the idea that the 4 will grow up as powerful warriors but never actually be able to defeat him, but they might be able to temporarily stop him from doing something.
Another interesting bit is that, according to Dungeons and Dragon's alignment charts, Chase wouldn't even be the most Evil character due to his honor. The most Evil would probably be Wuya (chaotic evil), then Jack (neutral evil), then him (lawful evil).
He does buy sentient creatures to boil alive but yeah
@@cerberus2534how is lawful evil less evil than chaotic evil, it's the same column on the chart.
@@mauirandall8176 Honor and Code are part of Lawful, Chaotic doesn’t have that. Yeah, Jack tries to be a “proper villain” more than a successful one, which means he does follow a sort of guideline to being a villain, but he’s more in everything for himself and constantly lies, cheats, and steals, but Chase doesn’t do that stuff all willy-nilly because of Honor and Code.
A cool detail is that if you go back to the previous episode to the moment Wuya creates her castle you can actually see the frozen Omi flying alongside some rocks
I actually remember noticing it on my initial viewing and was really confused until the reveal
some real futurama "you can see nibbler's shadow in the pilot" shit right there.
If it helps Raymundo was scared of jelly fish witch makes sense because of the poison sting of a jellyfish is leathel and since he's from Brazil it makes perfect sense with how close the ocean is to him there invisible in the water sometimes and there sometimes isnt enough time to get anti venom to save u and sometimes there is no anti venom
raimundo fear is a jellyfish, he is a surfer and is deadly afraid of dying in the water because of a jellyfish venom
I forgot how deadly jellyfish can be
Can I point out a 1000 IQ play that I didn't even notice until the full season recap?
Earlier in the season, Chase was shown not to like taking advantage of "Possessed by Evil" characters in Clay, but then later tricks Omi into using the Yang yoyo and using it to turn him to evil while possessed by evil. EXCEPT, that probably wasn't his end goal because of his anti-possessed by evil shown early. So maybe his plan was tricking Omi into making the deal, and then reminding him of said deal when he returned to normal?
That, or it's just a giant massive oversight.
Omi wasn't possessed, his alignment was shifted.
Chase is clearly willing to be underhanded. I think not taking advantage of Clay was more out of lack of interest rather than moral obligation.
There is also the fact that he was possessed, so there is a strong argument his possessor would be bound to whatever agreements they used Clay to make. And he wasn't interested in some random bug dude.
Nice to see this show still receives love after 20+ years!
24:21 Raimundo fear makes sense when you remember that he is a surfer and one of the thing you should be careful of jellyfish which that monster is clearly based off with that translucent body and many tentacles
I think Omi's fear of the squirrel might have come about from the changing chopsticks incident.
"Crazy Bread is just Bread to Clay."
Ok that got a chuckle out of me
If I remember correctly, Jack left his evil in the other dimension because he had the reversing mirror.
Yeah the reversing mirror did that I believe. I think I might’ve mixed up the ying and yang as just doing it by default
@@Colby2Dno no I do believe it’s just the yo-yos would reverse your morality either way if you didn’t have both with you, at least that’s how I remember it/the wiki and later uses showed
@@christopherauzenne5023 What all of you are saying is true however it might be that the YO-YO's when separate Invert you from good to evil or evil to good but when Jack brought the Reversing mirror it also made him reliable/useful as opposed to being "evil", smart, but sucks or is useless.
All off these Jack team ups make me salty he never joined as the Dragon of Metal.
That would be so sick
Jack was ahead of his time, now if only people in today's world could learn to respect pronouns.
Real
Jack: "I may be a villain but I'm not an asshole. Respecting pronouns is the bare minimum."
In that vein, it's odd that twice now I've seen villains ensure correct pronoun usage in media. The other one being My Hero Academia. Huh...Neat.
I was NOT prepared for Yomi to be a confirmed booty mucher xD
Lol like he intentionally got jack stuck too it was crazy
Forgot how much I used to love this series. All the characters are great. Chase Young is definitely one of those characters cooler when you were younger but still pretty interesting.
Some parts of chase feel cooler back then, like the dragon form, which looks a bit goofy to me now, but other parts like landing on one finger when he fell into the pit goes way harder now probably because it feels like something I’d see in jujutsu Kaisen or demon slater
33:00 - Immediately what comes to my mind, imagine if there was a Shen Gong Wu that was like, "this trinket has a different effect based on the moon phase". That would make it so you can select instead of being stuck by the calendar
Or maybe a werewolf wu too? Could be fun
I think somewhere it's explained that Raimundo is afraid of Jellyfish because he's a surfer back in Brazil.
One thing I find funny is that the show is suprisingly good at keeping track of who has what artifacts. Especially with the dare system which turns that whole process into algebra homework.
But in the ep where omi accidentally shrunk himself. If you pay attention. For an episode there, jack and wuya had the reversing mirror and the serpents tail. Meaning they had game but never played it
I seriously need to rewatch this franchise again. It's a childhood classic.
I rewatch it once like every 5 years or so and I'm always surprised how good it is
@@Colby2D Yeah it really holds up. Xialion showdown chronicles does not exist.
@@Colby2D How do you feel about the sequel series?
I always appreciated how well the kept track of who had what Wu.
33:06 Pretty sure if it can change moon phases that means it cam move the moon and/or sun around (or earth/moon relative to sun maybe...?).
The moon controls the tides.
The sun *is the sun* meanwhile.
I never really pondered too much about the heroes losing as much as they did, but despite failure, the team manages to pull through, dust themselves off and try retrieving the ShenGonWu again.
Wuya: I can give him anything his heart wants.
Raymundo: Anything?
Me: 😈
I'm really looking forward to hearing you talk about season 3, because that was when I involuntarily skipped watching the show. One of the biggest weaknesses of broadcast TV back in those days is that unless you're watching the channel consistently, checking their website regularly, catching their ads on other channels, or browsing a forum that keeps track of it, you have no way of knowing when a series comes back with new episodes. I didn't find out season 3 was airing until halfway into it, and when a show has consistent continuity, you can't always jump back in wherever. And they almost never had enough reruns for me to catch up. Even when Cartoon Network started airing episodes of it, I missed season 3 again.
Thank you I’m glad you’re looking forward to it I appreciate you watching, and seeing shows back then was so different, like going home and just praying the show you liked would be on, but when it did play it hit so different
so glad you're continuing this.
Thank you, it was a lot of work but I was really motivated by people asking for the continuation
Can't wait till next part drops! Very high quality videos from small channels are always great to see.
Thanks very much :)
Um, note on changing the phases of the moon: that can mess with tidal patterns. Changing tidal patterns is HUGE, it can impact all sorts of things.
I agree but I think he talking in more of how can you use this? Mess up tidal waves could easily backfire on the host and would create a situation that would be if I fail, I'm taking you with me, which is bad, but long term, not that useful
I’d like to think it changes the phases of the moon only in appearance that would be the most aesthetic shen gong wu ever
@@Colby2D Beside tides, you could also affect how much luminosity (or not) you would have during the night.
That's the kind of stuff ninjas would kill for.
It's so nice to get an overview of this show. It was one of my favorites growing up, and I had forgotten just how good the writing could be. Chase young best XS villain IMO
Thank you, I’m glad you’re enjoying it! If there’s other shows you’d be interested in hearing about in the future I’m always open for recommendations!
The fact that this show's (and Omi's) solution to time travel is for Omi to freeze himself and wait is what makes it so great. Its philosophy makes it truly enjoyable
Chase yungs lizard form looks like something from Juniper Lee, it just looks like something i've seen from it. as part of the 3% Jack fans out here i'm kind of disappointed he did not join the good side out of his own FREE will. over all this season was purity hype with all the plot
That’s interesting I didn’t watch much juniper Lee but art style wise it makes sense! And I like that you like jack, but I will say for better or worse I think he’s the most popular character ( for good reason!)
@@Colby2D interesting, i haven't heard much about people liking him except from trying to be edgy, i like him because he's a competent villain and that he's not a bad bad guy more like self observed bad guy, he's kind of neutral in the respect of evil and good, like a good guy who feel in to the wrong crowd.
I don't remember much from Juniper Lee but watched it when it was on TV, it was purity cool but not something i have tried to find any episodes of to rewatch
Raymundo is the definition of “that guy”, he really is HIM
He was absolutely himothy
I want to justify Omi's beliefs at the end there. Honor is NOT about doing good. Honor is about doing what is 'Right'. If you give your loyalty to someone who is evil, you still have honor obeying them and both doing and being evil. That is what makes Chase, to me, one of the best characters of most cartoons, especially back then. Because he embodies the belief of Yin and Yang. The Negative and Positive, the Good and Evil. Good on it's own, is meaningless without the balance of Evil.
But back to Omi. He is an honorable person, where he will honor his word. Even if made under influence or control. Because to break it, is to break his code, his morals, his inner-self, and what he sees himself as. If he breaks his word, is he really honorable? or is it a lie to let him sleep at night?
That is one of the things I love about the show, it isn't just "The good guys always wins, and is always right." We've seen many shows where the Bad Guys do something and is called evil and beaten. But the good guys do the exact same thing and it's justified away as an 'ends beats the means' kinda thing. Such as Stealing, lying, murdering in some instances, and others. Take the DC universe, where Batman hacks into computers illegally, and breaks into buildings all the time. But because he's doing those things to stop crime, it's overlooked and nothing being wrong.
But this show doesn't do that (usually) and most of the time the apprentices win either through honor or slight of hand. And when they can't, they lose and accept that defeat and grow from it. And out of all of the Monks, Omi has always shown to be the most honorable, respectful, and the biggest belief in the foundations of what honor means to himself above all else. To me, it was normal and natural for Omi to go side with Chase because of his belief of honor. To turn his back on it, just because he was 'Evil' at the time, would be a copout, and an insult to his honor and self.
Yeah I love that they make a really captivating dilemma with his honor, especially coming from Omi versus raimundo who recently betrayed the others
Perfect video to clean my house to!
Edit, you know if you think about it, Dashi's goal was to teach omi a lesson, and he succeeded, so you *could* count that as a win 🤔
Edit 2 the octopus in raimundos dream is actually a jellyfish, i think. Maybe specifically a Man O War (they get HUGE) Hes from brazil and into surfing, so i think hes scared of being stung by a deadly jellyfish.
Yeah the Dashi one may be best as just as not being scored. And I don't know why it didn't occur to me that was a jellyfish, manowars are scary!
@@Colby2D I think it's all the weird eyes lol, like they weren't octopus eyes either but you wouldn't expect a jelly to look like that
51:20 Well he's talking about Literally All The Knowledge, and it's not like Chase himself knows how to do it...
That makes sense I suppose. I really like chase but sometimes he talks about evil in a very funny way
Just came by to show my support, Xiaolin Showdown is up there with Danny Phantom and American Dragon for my favourite cartoons I actually saw as a kid (I didn’t watch ATLA in full until my teens) so I appreciate these videos 👍 Keep at it chief, your content is a gold mine.
Thank you very much🥺 and American dragon was my favorite show for a year or two I haven’t thought about it in a long time!
@@Colby2D Given it’s predicated on teaching Jake to be the dragon based on a series of moral and martial lessons, much like Xiaolin Showdown, I’m sure you’d find a lot to talk about if you dedicated a video or few to it 👍
I think another topic foe a future vid could be ranking Shen Gong Wu (idk if im spelling it correctly 😅) either by personal preference, how useful or situational they are etc
Another potential topic could be involving the show Grossology maybe about the villains in a season and their schemes or something
Thanks! I was thinking of adding the ranking of like a top 5 or top 10 shen gong wu ranking to the end of season 3, or maybe as part of a separate video. And i still gotta check out grossology!
Dashi was pretty crazy with all the useful, apocalyptic, and straight up *Heylin* *aligned* Shen Gong Wu he made.
The main theory I heard as to why he made so many chaotic Wu was that he's an Enlightened Being (clearly meant to be a Buddha), and saw the future where the Wu exist.
And there's also the fact some Wu, like the Sapphire Dragon, is just pressing the MAD button when all else fails (Mutally Assured Destruction).
I love the theory of mutual assured destruction shen gong wus, it’s really dark
maybe it was a balance kind of thing? like you can't have pure good or pure bad, you have to have both, same could apply to Shen Gong Wu.
This trilogy so far has been such a nostalgia trip! I watched the series when it first came out after getting home from school every weekday wondering what they’d do next, and that cliffhanger for season 2 really upped the stakes. Great video!
I think Omi's biggest fear was the Giant Squirrel due from the time he was super tiny. Yea good luck beating the (comparatively) massive beast that kinda fear must hunt you in your nightmares.
quick note: i always interpreted ray's fear from the shadow of fear episode to be a jellyfish. y'know the little squishies that sting and can hurt like heck if you make contact with them and the sting can make you unable to swim to safety? i figured it was potentially connected to a bad surfboarding incident
Yeah I think it’s supposed to be a jellyfish because he’s a surfer and from Brazil s few people pointed out to me
Chase Youg is just like me at 3 AM for real.... Wait what
The Lunar Locket sounds pointless, but to function it has to be one of the strongest and most destructive of the Shen Gong Wu. To change the phase of the moon, it has to be physically moving the moon, the sun, or the Earth out of position. Any of which would cause massive wide scale damage.
That is very true, I was thinking about it more aesthetically
Not gonna lie, I would also think twice if someone offered me Canada. I dunno what I would do with it, but when else am I gonna get that chance?
Right?
Chase Young's whole "evil" schtick would have been so much more interesting if it was a balance keeping thing. Y'know, like, a "without evil there is no good so they must be kept in balance" sort of thing. It'd really play well with the series' penchant for averting "the good guys always win" and the yin-yang theming of the season's final couple Shen Gong Wu. So yeah it's pretty disappointing his whole goal seems to be to "tip the scales and destroy the world" instead.
Pour one out for Dudebot.
Yeah maybe chase would be sacrificing himself as the evil for the world by doing what he does. I think the show does a good job portraying omi and chase as two sides of a similar coin in terms of their acting and thoughts
Raimundo's fear being a giant jelly fish makes a lot of sense with him being from Rio de Janeiro and being a surfer. Stems from a fear of the Man'o'War, or similar species.
Mate Raymundo was scared of a jellyfish, he is a surfer and jellyfish can be really deadly
That’s true I didn’t even think of the fact that he’d be scared of jellyfish because of surfing. Something about how the tentacles were drawn made me think it was some weird sea monster mash up, I think because it had eyes
Hoping you can get monetized before season 3 episode. You put up quality stuff and it shows.
This just really goes to show the value of low stakes in action shows aimed at kids. The heroes can afford to lose because losing is not the end of the world or someone’s life, they lose a magical macguffin they can later reclaim.
Yeah it’s kinda ironic sometimes the lower the stakes the more we’re invested
Raimundo's nightmare is actually a big Jelly fish witch is a fair fear for a surfer, they can burn your skin and it hurts like hell.
That makes a lot more sense
2:48 Jack's scream here is solid gold comedy.
That and getting scared of wuya scream are just so good like they make jack so funny
Honestly, Jack is probably in the running for funniest character of my entire childhood (so yes, very subjective, but that is a competitive list) The voice actor ATE every scene he was in, the deliveries were always perfect. The comedic timing, the writing, his iconic screams, both in set up & how they were animated... Just fantastic.
True, he was really funny and the voice acting and animation is so good
14:01 I would like to say that I’m pretty sure this episode is the only time the changing chopsticks can’t be used to return to normal size
Honestly, might be a skill issue.
Which makes the fact Jack could use it so easily a pretty impressive showing for the evil genius.
Raimundo's fear was probably a Portuguese Man-O-War. A collonial organism that is commonly found in brazilian waters and stings harder than a jellyfish, considering Raimundo is a surfer from rio he probably knows how painful getting stinged by one of those is.
Wuya should've been a serious antagonist for longer. She's probably my favorite of all the antagonists.
I agree, she kinda becomes a little more of a gag in season 2 because of chase but she did have a few good episodes and is always fun to have on screen
These two videos have been a lot of fun. Can't wait to see season 3
Thanks very much!
Yes Finally, the best 1 hour long video of the year arrived. Chase Young is the best character of the whole series.
Thank you very much, and yeah I agree I really like chase he makes the series very psychological
Is that fucking ACDC Town music I'm hearing in your background?!?!
Also super happy to see the part 2 for this!
What I like was Jack begging not to sacrifice himself with his ride to burn the spiders and the good guys gave Omi the look of let's do that plan and then gave the look of "damn it"
Yeah it gives me team rocket vibes like when they save them from drowning
Correction about the Ying-Yang World; If you leave without both the Ying Yo-Yo and the Yang Yo-Yo, the dominant half of your Chi is left behind. You need both yo-yo's in order to come out whole, and since Jack had the Reversing Mirror, his dominant evil Chi was left behind, turning him good
Chase is the best example if lawful evil
Man, you just unlocked a whole box of memories and nostalgia for me. I LOVED THIS SERIES! And even though the ending of this season is a little wild, the first time I saw it it blew my little kid mind! This series knows how to give the heroes wins and loses in such a cool way.
Thanks a lot for this video, you just made my day a lot better!
Freaking loved this show to death as a kid so finding this channel ,and these two videos as of me writting this, is a *treat*
14:13 Okay, what?! Damn, didn't know that happened in Fairly Odd Parents.
Yeahh😭
