One thing to keep in mind with ON1, is that if you do lens correction first, when you use No Noise to clean the noise and you swipe left and right for the before and after the lens correction will make the area of the split line appear to jump. If you turn off at least temporarily lens correction, even though you get all the setting for lens correction the way you need, them before using No Noise AI, then activate lens correction again after No Noise AI is applied then you won't see that skipping around. The skipping around is very evident when you have powerlines, a building top or the horizon. There really isn't a problem with lens correction being on before using No Noise AI, it's just that the preview vertical slider that you move left and right, is a preview of the RAW image with no corrections vs. the No Noise AI settings and all the edits so far applied, case in point if you use No Noise AI on an HDR composite, the preview will be against one of the three composite RAW images, vs. the HDR image with No Noise AI settings applied. If someone who's uncomfortable seeing the image jump around during the preview slider comparison phase of using No Noise AI, then they should, in my opinion turn off lens correction first.
Thank you so much Jim. ON1 had a Wildlife Webinar yesterday and they answered a couple of my questions. Then I heard them answer a couple questions for another "Jim" first thing that came to mine was: it must be Jim Nix. Anyhow thanks again and have a super day.
Many thanks Jim for this run through. I'm a relative newbe with ON1 Photo Raw with 2022.5 from July and now 2023. Looking forward to you delving into all the new stuff that has been put in the 2023 version.
@@ThirdEyePix I will continue to cover it for sure. I have a full playlist for On1 Photo RAW 2023 at the following link in case it helps. czcams.com/play/PLye10L-yi8hUq2W_-cXQa2svTkr7LWYnm.html
Great video, and I know that because I’m watching it ‘in the clear’ now and will go back to it later today and ‘follow along’ with the video using one of my own pics in front of me on my computer. I’ve never purchased any piece of software for pics that is so powerful and worked so well out of the box as ON1 Photo RAW 2023. Keep up the good work and keep these Beginner’s Guides coming.
Great vid Jim, many thanks. I am a Luminar NEO user in the main but saw this....and your video's on it....and went ahead and bought it!! So, these Beginner Guide vids will help enormously as I have not used ON1 before and need to find my way around. Looking forward to seeing more of these!!
thanks much Nigel and it is a great product, and I plan to do a lot of videos on it - hope you have a lot of fun editing with it and thanks for watching!
Slowly but surely weaning myself away from Adobe. It was a choice between NEO and On1 Photo Raw, which one to go with. Photo Raw is more feature rich and I don't like Skylum's subscription model, so Photo Raw it is. Good video explaining the develop model, Jim, and with a photo from my backyard. Since you last visited, it has become really popular, especially in the summer months. Unless you are there at the crack of dawn, you'll struggle to find a parking space anywhere along the valley.
Hi Mike and On1 is a great alternative to Adobe for sure. It's been great for me. Wales is gorgeous but yeah I can understand it is crowded in summer. It's just a beautiful area and I hope to return again. Thanks for watching and have fun editing!
Great tutorial, Jim! Even though I've edited a few photos in ON1 2023, I still consider myself a beginner. I've found that AI Auto usually brightens up my photos too much, so I don't use that feature very often. This was very helpful. The more I use ON1, the more I like it.
Jim, Good job! Always nice to see you on ON1. Great intro covering a heck of a lot. I have upgraded and am working through the videos and some of my photos. As always, like your approach to post work and hope to see more!! Hey "going long w/ the cut" ? I still have my Go West Road Beard as well!! :)
Thanks much Merle and yep On1 is a great product and I enjoy using it. And yep letting the hair grow for a while hahah, kinda fun and not sure how much longer I can stand it LOL.
Jim do you need Lens corrections with images out of a Nikon Mirrorless Camera >> I used that feature extensively in DSLR days but in Mirrorless without the Mirror the Lenses are basically sorted ?? I maybe totally wrong ??
Hi Peter and I shoot Sony A7R3 which is mirrorless and use lens correction all the time, and it is super helpful. I can't speak for Nikon though, but I assume it is the same?
Glad you are using and enjoying it Marleen and Super Select AI has worked pretty well for me but of course it will get refined and improved over time too, so it only gets better.
Jim - great as always. Question for you and others.... I am just a hobbyist but was taught in the early days of photo editing that sharpening should be the last thing you should do - is that still the case or is it better to sharpen first before other adjustments?
Hi Steve and true sharpening is normally done at the end. Note that in this video their Tack Sharp AI is not sharpening in the traditional sense but really a deblurring that occurs to the image. So that is done up front. Hope that helps. Thanks.
Thanks Jim, great video. I have one question about the lens profiles. When I use a vintage lens or lens that is unknown to ON1 Photo Raw 2023 the 'Make' is greyed out so there is no list I can choose from. Do I need to import a list of profiles? If yes, where can I get it from?
Hmm, that is a great question Bernd and I am not sure of the answer. Maybe check with their support team and see what they suggest? I have no vintage lenses so this has never come up for me.
I take it Jim you set up your camera to use one of its built in profiles when taking photos, so why do you not match that in the ON1 camera profile section ! It’s the first thing I do is select the camera profile and lens correction of the camera I’m using Let’s face it, camera manufactures have them in there for a reason don’t you think.
Does the Professional PlugIn bundle include all functions of FotoRAW 2023, i.e. also HDR from multiple images, sky and FocusStacking? Of course, the catalog function is not needed out of Lightroom. FotoRAW could be accessed via "Export" from Lightroom and the PlugIns probably under "Edit in". Would I have to call each PlugIn individually, so create in Lightroom constantly new file, because back in Lightroom each PlugIn "burns in" the change or could I call again the same PlugIn to subsequently adjustment again? -- In FotoRAW I could apply all tools one after the other and export to Lightroom and ... would then have to set extra catalog in FotoRAW so that settings remain reversible ... or can I use selbige folders as in LR ? -- Last question: Can I install the PlugIn bundle or FotoRAW also on 3 of my Mac devices, where I always use only individually? -- Explain no one does so far, but could you help me - thank you!? 👍
Jim Just what I Need >> I am old and not Tech Savvy and want to switch out of Adobe after all these years (Cant afford it anymore with the Strong $$$ vs the S African Currency )
hey Jim. Im new to luminar Neo. Im having a problem when I edit my photo and export, my photos are like thunb nails, if I try to open them they are small and are blurry if i enlarge them. I think you had said something about that before but I dont remember what. would love if you could tell me what im doing wrong. Thank a lot .
@@JimNix I contacted support and sent them my raw Sony files along with the ON1 files. On1 2023 turns every Sony file pink and is useless. They told me they are aware and are working on fixing this. This is really poor as ON1 2022 worked with the exact Sony files last year. The files from the A7IV worked right away last year when it was released. The much, overhyped 2023 version is broken right from the start. They told me hopefully a fix within the next few weeks. Very lame and disappointing. This is why I don't like pre paying months in advance only to have a company release software that isn't ready and somehow didn't get tested using Sony raw files. Sony has a large market share and the fact that it worked on last years Photo Raw and not the new, greatest thing ever version is a big misstep, from a company that has made many the past few years. Thanks ON1 for distracting us with all the cool tech demos and then forgetting to built out the internal code that is required to even operate. I'd be very irritated if this new version replaced my working 2022 version. Great to have paid in advance for unusable software.

Great instruction of the On1 Photo Raw 2023. When used Ai Auto under Develop you can adjust the auto slider (at 10:23) so the effect is less heavy.
