  • Les Misérables
    Live in Concert in Chelmsford, England
    August 24, 1997
    RE-UPLOAD WITH LESS OVERLOADED SOUND
    Starring: Jeff Leyton as Jean Valjean, Michael McCarthy as Javert, Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine, Matthew Cammelle as Marius, Chris Langham & Gay Soper as the Thénardiers, David Bardsley as Enjolras, Annalene Beechey as Cosette, and Adam Searles as Gavroche
    Very heavily remastered and restored by me.
    This is a really great, open-air concert styled pretty closely after the 10th anniversary concert (which many of these performers participated in), and it includes a lot of famous faces in the Les Mis world! Jeff Leyton, a long running Valjean (1991-2004), Michael McCarthy, a long running Javert (1992-2009), and of course Ruthie from the 10th, Frances the original Eponine...a wonderful cast.
    I had to do SO MUCH work on the audio. The sound level was low to a point where it was inaudible, and was drowned in this terrible tape hiss. This was the best I could do, and it's quite literally a 10,000% improvement over the original tape. Please enjoy!

    Love Frances Ruffelle! My favorite Eponine! A Little Fall of Rain in this concert is fantastic! She’s so emotional and performs it exquisitely!

    I have kept coming back to this monthly for the past few years. The quality is such a shame, but unfortunately this has the best performance done in the role of Fantine that I have ever seen. Ruthie Henshall outdid her 10th Anniversary performance here, and it’s not even close. I hope that a high quality version of this concert exists somewhere in some idiotic publisher’s vault. I’d easily pay hundreds for it.

    .. so happy to see Frances Ruffelle here. She may lack Lea's technical polish, but gosh, that pitiful warble brings me to tears unlike anyone else.

    I was at this concert. 5 years old at the time and no idea the impact this show would have on me in years to come.

      *ALMOST* the whole show. it seems "Valjean's Confession" is the only thing that got left out (it was also left out of both the 10th and 25th anniversary concerts.

      @@disneydanny2 That's right, I forgot that one or two each of Jean Valjean's, Fantine's and Eponine's numbers are shortened or abridged (as well as, I think, "Master of the House"). Unlike a few other Broadway or West End musicals, I still haven't seen Les Miserables in person.

    Don't get me wrong, this is gold, it's really good, though the tempo for some of the actors could be a bit better, but it's basically a poorer version of the 10th Anniversary Concert, the lyrics are cut in the same parts, and it also includes the images that the 10th showed to illustritate which scene they're singing, maybe these videos are a tad bit longer, but that's all. Even the actors are acting so similar to the 10th Anniversary, like the actor playing Javert is basically imitating Philip Quast, which, again, not bad because I love Quast, but you know, it all looks so similar to that Concert. And now someone is gonna come to tell me that's because it's the same musical, but that's not an excuse, because if you've seen the 25th Anniversary and the Staged Concert from 2019, they look a bit different from the 10th, and from each other, and the actors don't imitate each other in the role they play, but give it their own unique edge. For example, Javert is so different if you compare him as played by Philip Quast, to how Norm Lewis does it, or even Michael Ball, they're all great in their own right. Hell, even Matt Smith's Thenardier is different if you compare the 25th to the Gielgud Staged Concert. But, still, thanks for uploading, because this is still great.

      OMG! Hadn't gotten to Master of the House yet when I posted this, but this actor is doing such a poor and uninspired imitation of Alun Armstrong. Jesus!

      @elbauldelosrecuerdosdemigu5137 Před 4 lety +1

      Well, Stars is actually quite good in this version. But that final note, gosh how do I envy those who can sustain it as long as 20 or more seconds, like Philip Quast or Michael Ball. This actor doesn't, but I can't really criticise something I find impossible.

      @@elbauldelosrecuerdosdemigu5137 I mean, I can’t blame Langham too much for that. When everyone proclaims a single actor as the best at a role, I guess it makes sense to emulate him the best you can.
