- Another Excellent PO-35 Feature!
Today I want to bring light to the fact that the PO-35 Speak has a full two minutes of sampling time! You read that right, 120 seconds! Each of the 16 slots can have a separate sample recorded to it up to 8 seconds in length. This means that you could record an entire songs worth of vocals into the PO-35 for real time playing sequencing! Enjoy the video :)

Wow FreeBeat, today you taught me that if you play a sound legato, the note changes without retriggering the sound. Cool!
▲ this is a test of the po-35 sampling time.
😁
Very inspiring. Thank you for your enthusiasm
Anytime :D
The PO-35 was my first pocket operator and I still use it like everyday!!! Such an amazing piece of technology!!!
How did you find the learning curve picking up the po-35 first?
@@FreeBeat haha, well I would say it was a rather steep one because this little device is so much different from any other piece of gear I owned back then...and, to be honest, it took me quite some time to actually discover the secret menu🙈 nevertheless, I'd say it took me about a week or so to figure out how this AMAZING piece of technology works! And the cool thing is, there's seemingly always something that you didn't know about, right? I mean, I just learned that you can use the Microtonic to swap out drum kits! This is incredible!!!
As always your enthusiasm is genuine and your experimentation is inspiring. You ain't fancy, but your content is better for it and some of the best content available on CZcams.
Thank you so much! 😁
Wow, that is so much fun! I’ve been thinking about buying the Roland Aira E-4, but this one sounds so much better although the Aira strictly speaking is more advanced. I really hope Teenage Engineering will refill their stock!
Very interesting! Recently I've been thinking about trying something like this with my PO-35. Your video has given me some further ideas on how to get started. Thanks!
Right on, have fun jamming!
This will be the second PO I want to get (after the PO 20)
thanks for your vids. They are inspiering and entertaining
Thank you so much!
That's crazy I never realized that. I need to delve more into the 35. The circuit rhythm only has 3 mins and 40 seconds per track
I think that the 35 is the most complex PO to use. It keeps revealing unthought of possibilities the more you work with it over time. I just wish you could have the samples/synthesis play beyond the trigger pattern into a subsequent pattern.
I agree, it's definitely the most complex. I also agree about wanting sounds to carry over to new patterns haha. That's the one feature I wish it had. Thanks for watching!
PO-35 : $99
Synthstrom Deluge : $900
FreeBeat’s jam : Priceless
Omg that sounded like an 80s dance jam!😂💗
Thanks for watching!
This was truly fun and sounds awesome F.B. 🙂 You get me ever so closer to finally buy the Speak PO-35 (like you did with the excellent Elektron Model:Cycles). please include your Sweetwater affiliate link if you have one. Shine on✨
Thank you so much! Unfortunately I don't have any Sweetwater affiliate links, just the Amazon ones.
Very nice tip! 2 minutes sampling time is really nice! I think if you let a blank pattern playing it doesn't preview the sound when you switch between those two sounds.
Thanks for watching as always!
Great video, awesome little track. Small correction for you, only slots 1-15 record via mic, slot 16 is exclusive for the single channel microtonic drums on the PO-35. Keep up the great content!
Correct :)
@@FreeBeat you might want to make that correction in your video description ...
This is by far your most entertaining vid. Touching on Kraftwerk type music. Please make a 3 min track. Incredible stuff, well done.!
Thanks for watching!
Pro Tip: when recording low voices(male) use the hidden low recording level. It's set automatically to high.
Thanks for watching!
For the curious, it's enabled by pressing [record]+[FX]+7 until the display says "lo - r".
Just for kicks, after watching this, I’ve had the speak laying around for a while, so I ran it thru my Boss VE 20, it may seem redundant since the VE does everything this does, but sample, I guess in a way it does because it loops, but anyhoo I ran it through the harmonized, yes, an army of robots! It’s not useful for making music but was fun! Lol another great video! Ty Peace
Right on, sounds like an awesome jam!
@@FreeBeat I wouldn’t call it a jam, more like a robot choir, lol. You know what I’d like to see you do? A review of the Zoom mixer! I’m using an old 16 track fostex and am considering updating, I would appreciate it and I’m others would be interested.
You can actually choose the notes on the deluge also (multiple notes at the same time in real time).
Man Daft Punk really changed after the breakup. (Great vid btw!)
Hahaha thanks!
Crazy that it has 2 minutes of rec time. I'm wondering if it has more memory than the others or the sample rate is lower. Sounds freaking awesome, especially with your deluge trk. Damnit, now I want one.
I'm not exactly sure how it works, all I know is that it's awesome haha. Thanks for watching!
It's because it's not a true sampler. It doesn't store digital audio samples, which take up a large amount of space, but rather the "outline" of the sound for the synth engine to recreate. Kinda like MIDI info vs audio files.
Could you also sample the PO-35 into the Deluge and use that to pitch it up/down, stutter it, etc?
Absolutely, I'll probably do a video about that in the future, this one was just a showcase for the po-35 :)
I've been looking for this piece in heavens and hells, it's kind of out of stock everywhere 😢
it's just in stock, like yesterday, and I cannot be more happy
Can you play samples this way with po 33 ??
I mean playing different notes during a sample ?
@@Larryco1 Can the PO33 play a sample chromatically? Yes.
The 8 key does not work 🤔
