This is one of my favorite classic Sonic songs. It is from the video game Sonic 3D Blast, for Sega Saturn. It was composed by Richard Jacques. Hope you enjoy!

@@Shinigami_Striker I think they both offer different good things! Genesis is more like chiptunes because of the soundchip, which feels more video game-y. Saturn is more orchestrated with realistic sounding instruments. I personally like Saturn better, but I love both! =)
If I recall correctly, Sonic 3d Blast, alongside Sonic R, was developed entirely by Travelers Tales. That would also include the music from both games. The music from the other official Sega made and produced classic Sonic games were entirely of SEGA's doing, though.

I always wondered why sonic team never brought back this style of music for the special stages in their later sonic games. It's chill, relaxing, mystical and adventurous. All the perfect things needed for a special stage, minus the speed; it would make those parts feel like you went to another world than a minigame.

@Amidamaru really sucks hideki left sega, but I'm sure it's for the best. I heard he's working with the creators of Lethal League to make the soundtrack for a game very similar to jet set radio future in aesthetics and gameplay.

I never listened to the Saturn version of the OST, so when it was added to SSS it was so good I thought it was a Sonic Unleashed night theme I forgot about.
That calm flute has a sound effect similar to the one used in most children cartoons during specific instances, especially when involving describing a certain area or previous event related to it. When I hear it I think of an old man describing a forest in which some kind of magic mcguffin that will define the character's adventures lies.
y'know, this was one of my fav songs, and it was always weird to me that any of the compilation disks had different music, but now I see, the saturn and pc versions are the only ones with this music and are probably the best way to play this in my opinion
It took me forever to figure out that this was the theme for Hill Top Zone in Sonic Speed Simulator. I always thought it was from Sonic CD. Still a very great theme.
Ah, Sonic games always knew how to create a powerful atmosphere with music and visuals. What a shame they stopped doing games after 1996 so the next games didn't suck.

@@mistamontiel00 I mean if you want something like the Saturn version but with far better load times you could always use the PC version (the old one from the 90s not the steam version which just emulated the Genesis) as its based on the Saturn version (just with worse special stages and a few mist effects missing) But on anything remotely resembling modern hardware will it load near instant.
Unrelated to the song but is it true that the goofy front-facing Sonic render on some 3D Blast box art is actually a photo-manipulated clay model? I remember hearing that somewhere.
The genesis one sounds more upbeat and fitting with the series, especially the original genesis/mega drive games, while this one, while still upbeat with its drumming, is a lot more atmospheric and peaceful, similar to what Sonic Adventure would later do with Mystic Ruins and Sonic Lost World with Tropical Coast Zone 3 now that I think about it
love the sega saturn wish it had done better. a 2d sonic game would have saved it. i think it was already over by time resident evil 2 came thus dreamcast version.
Always a forgotten gem or two in this old series that is remembered in the wake of bad modern sonic games... (Frontiers, Mania, and Mania excluded, as they've been par excellent... maybe... signs of a good future on the horizon? or bad excuse to use Sonic CD time jokes? You decide)
That's pretty messed up that they're forcing ads on my video when I don't see any revenue whatsoever for this. Have you considered using an adblocker browser extension? They seem to work best on Firefox in my experiences (I use AdBlockPlus, which is free)

So I'm not really a fan of stuff like this. This could have been Sonic 3D Blast 2 with its own levels and all of its own unique stuff. With 3D Graphics keep that in mind. To me it's a waste of music and this stuff sounds really good. One of the main reasons why I hate the US Sonic CD soundtrack.

Even if it was, your logic of all soundtracks requiring their own game in order to exist and that a single game is not morally allowed to have two different ones is absolutely ludicrous. Game development is a costly and time consuming process, and development of a soundtrack does not immediately warrant a second game's creation just for it. Wow, you "hate the US Sonic CD soundtrack"? What a unique, refreshing take that no one on the internet has ever heard.........Get over it. You have two soundtracks to choose from and have been able to since 2011. 11 years now. For the record Sonic CD was 18 years old when it received the enhanced port with both soundtracks, so you've been able to choose your favorite for what will be coming up on nearly half the game's lifespan in a few years.
