    Shane looking forward to the build, be interesting to see the cement add on armour. I liked your tip on using gorilla glue on the tracks. Will have to give that a try...

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  Před 6 lety +1

      the cement armor is something that really drew me to this kit, will certainly make this tank standout !
      haha don't worry with gorilla glue those tracks ant going no where

    When you let it fly haha The F bomb was a nice touch Shane! I like your video tutorials because you keep it real and to the point. The last time I was watching you build a Panther! Keep up the good work and model on man!!!

      @longlance67  Před 4 lety +1

      haha always need to have one hidden there somewhere lol
      really glad your enjoying the build videos! The Panther is shaping up to be one of the most enjoyable projects to date, I have a Sherman project with some resin goodies in the works

  • @HamilkarBarkasScaleModelling

    thank you for your honest review shane! that sherman looks actually like a tank, quite like it :) great to see some more value gear stuff up close. haven´t really payed attention to it until recently, when people started to praise it like the second coming of christ. what i get is that it is very decent and useful stuff, but i can not see much difference to other brands out there. i think black dog nails it with sheer variety, which we might see in time from value gear as well.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  Před 6 lety

      thanks Michi ! I would have to agree that is the detail is nice and for a new company which I have a feeling that might be one man operation it is very impressive ! As for the second coming ? I don't think its a big game changer as its not that much cheaper for the amount of resin you are getting, though that said I will be adding a few more sets to my Sherman stash to add a bit of variety to my Sherman stowage
      shall be interesting to see where this company goes in the future

    Good and detailed review Shane. I like it. I had Asuka Sherman and I must say that they are the best Shermans in the market in my opinion. Theay are well detailed, not overengineered and comes with good clear instruction. Good luck with the build mate.

      Shane Smyth - scale models Yes, but price is almost always rather high but any Sherman fan should buy one to see how good are the Tasca/ Asuka products.

    Great vid! Those odd roadwheels are the welded spoke type introduced in mid 1944. The little rivet things on the sprues with roadwheels are just that, rivets for the pressed spoke roadwheels. They are a pain to put on. Tiger Model Designs sells a nice resin set with the rivets already added. I have the M4A3 76mm kit by Asuka and it looks almost identical as far as contents go. Looking forward to the build! The aftermarket barrel and Value Gear set are an excellent choice! Cheers!

    The Value Gear stuff is nicely made, good price (North America) excellent detail and lots of pieces in each set. I believe this is a smaller company but their variety seems to be expanding so I expect to see more of them in the future and Steve Munsell (owner) seems like a really good guy.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  Před 6 lety

      Jerry Volpini I have no doubt they are on the up and up, the price difference here in Europe is a massive difference between other makers however that said I will be picking up a few more sets in the future

    Hi Shane, the road wheels of the pacific Shermans had metal welded over the openings to prevent the Japanese from disabling the tank by jamming something into the opening

    Awesome review Shane. I've said it before, I really need to buy an Asuka kit. Methinks I need a Firefly Vc next. I just picked up a Dragon P.T.O. M4 composite hull Sherman. After I build my Calliope, with a Value Gear sandbag front armor piece I found in my stash, I'm going to build a couple of Pacific Theater Sherms...

    Love your subjects !!!
    Do you have your M4A3E8 yet ?
    I have an old tamiya jumbo , plus the new Asuka .
    TMD has lots of nice upgrades and so does Tank work shop
    Great work
    Historically the M4A3E2s were very succesful , one helped break the siege at the Ardennes at Bastogne .
    One thing about Asuka kits Shane .
    They dont include handles for hatches .
    Great kits .but no grab handles for hatches
    By the way modelkasten makes M48 with duck bills in plastic, AFV Club as well with duck bills which fit these kits .
    And kaizen makes them a s well, in plastic which articulate and the AFVs .
    Fruils white metal tracks actually on these kits do not sag
    Anyway your doing great Shane
    Cheers brother keep it up!!!

    Great review Dingle Berry ! The Jumbo is the only Sherman I actually like so now I want one ! But I'm going to settle for finishing the Tamiya one I modified to correct some detail issues. I'm afraid you're going to have to wait for a different Sherman kit for the cast texture effect and the chipping too. All the added armour was rolled sheet welded to a standard turret. Same for the sides and front. The only two places with cast texture was the transmission cover and the section with the drivers and R/O hatches. Jumbos came later and were an answer to the problem with getting close enough to kill a Panther or maybe a Tiger and survive. As for the choice of gun barrels. The regular 76mm was usually kept because if they changed to the long barrel ( plain) it really didn't matter. The only way the Up gunned could do what it was supposed to was to use the same hot rounds made for the tank destroyers. Except they only went to the TD units and sigenificant trading was involved in getting any. I've never seen the third barrel on a Sherman Jumbo in WWII. Not to say it never happened but I've not seen it. I believe that when the Jumbo was introduced solid roadwheels were usually used. I'm excited to see you building this bad boy followed by one of the new Panther kits coming out.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  Před 6 lety

      From what I read there quite the list of changes to made with that Tamiya kit so I hope it goes well mate.
      As for the cast elements of the E2 Jumbo the hull was indeed added to with 1/2inch rolled plate however the turret of was of cast construction with the pistol part eliminated increasing the turret to 5-1/2 inches at its thickest, the T110 combination gun mount was modified M62 shield. As well as the thicken transmission and driver and co-driver top plate as you mentioned.
      I got the info from page 289-90 of R.P Hunnicutt's history of Sherman.
      I am looking forward to getting my hands on a Takom Panther or BergePanther at some pint in the future :)

    Shane, I think the Value Gear products are more of a bargain here in the states. And, if you order two or three sets directly from Value Gear the owner often throws a baggy of odds and ends.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  Před 6 lety

      thanks Larry ! it seems value gear is geared (excuse the pun) for the US and Canadian market and they seem to be good value in that context and from all counts the guy or guys running at meant to be great to their costumers !

    You do like a nice Sherman lol. Nice review. Question totally of subject....I have a load of unused Vallejo model air, model color, Lifecolor sets and Tamiya bought over the last 5 to 7 years. Will they be unusable now? Some look to have seperated in the eye dropper bottle. I suppose this affects us all at some point (having unused paint kicking about).

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  Před 6 lety +1

      can only really speak for vallejo paints, but I've had paints near as old as that sitting on my paint rack, if you pop off the dropper lips and stir them you might be able to recover them, as for the other brands I am not sure, I do know that all paints when used for an extended period of time will break down however it varies from brand to brand or even from pigment to pigment

      I hear ya there buddy! I love the Sherman! it has a presence about it that I just don't find with the others that keep me wanting more and more Shermans, also as a subject the Sherman allows so much freedom to try different paint schemes and conversions which few other vehicles do
