I come from a country were the majority speaks 3-5 languages (you learn 4 at school but people often speak an additional language due to their parents) but I love to see people going out of their way to learn more languages when they live in a country where they don’t have to:)

Not true. Chess requires to know tactics and strategies, as well as practicing different situations doing puzzles. Although he is very intelligent, chess has nothing to do with it. Maybe patience does, but intelligence is not related to chess.

@@tuamipsicologa planification isn’t a word, you don’t need high intelligence to speak 5 languages or play chess, high intelligence doesn’t make you inherently good at chess. and the guy already has a leg up because he lives in Europe, where students aren’t just taught one language unlike here in the U.S. Even in he UK, a lot of students are taught French or Spanish or some other second language.

Andalusian Spanish and Arabic are practically the same language, Catalan is similar to French and Portugese is similar to Spanish in general. Really he only speaks 3 languages English(Germanic-Latin), Iberian(Latin-Portugese, Castillian, Andalusian-Arabic), , French(Germanic,Celt, Latin) but his French sucks.. so he really just knows 2.5. And then if he goes to America, Mexican SPanish and American English are pretty much similar now with the younger generations. Both Mexican Spanish and American English are merging. So by 2040 he will only really now about 2 languages Esperanto and Arabic.

Once you speak 3 languages with different roots the rest comes in way easier, (les than 600 hours)
I speak Cantonese and English Cantonese being my first language and Cantonese is not Latin roots. I can also speak vacation Mandarin, meaning not fluent but if I needed to ask for something in Mandarin I can. I also have to learn Spanish for High school
Hmm I'm not sure about that. Plus 600h for reaching what level? I speak German so Germanic languge root, whereas I think English belongs to, then I also speak 2 latin languages and Mandarin chinese. I'm now starting my 3th latin languge which will for sure be the easiest at this point but I'll also start a slavic language. Sure it is going to become way easier to learn Serbian in my case, but there aren't many cognates so it will only be easier to learn based on having required the skill of learning languages. I would second guess thou that I would get to a very high level within just 600 hours
I'm a French born English with Chinese and Korean parents, grew up in Paris, moved back to London for University and now living and working in Australia. Born and well equipped with these 4 languages and I'm now learning Italian, which seems quite easy, but when I was learning Cantonese last year, it seems like I would have to learn from scratch as mandarin doesn't help me at all in this....

His Portuguese is very good in my opinion, and I’m Portuguese. People who speak Brazilian Portuguese might struggle to get through the accent though.

I can agree with you. The only language (that I can form a proper sentence) is English, which is my second. I know veeeery few words French and Greek, but not enough to form a sentence, yet alone speak them. So, my point is that I feel like a lazy dumb person when I see how people like Freddie and Daniel are speaking all those languages.
By the way, I'm still learning English as well and I'm seriously questioning my ability of learning one language for so many years 😂

(Je parle principalement Créole et Français quotidiennement mais les livres scolaire sont en anglais dans mon pays😅) My written english is on par with british peoples but my accent became good only in my 20s because it takes a loootttt of practice with a native speaker or watching movies with subtitles for a long time to become that good😳 Can't imagine doing that for 2 more language. A real genius indeed!
