Beautiful B25. Now imagine sixteen of these taking off from the deck of the USS Hornet in April 1942 on their way to raid Tokyo, under the command of Col. Doolittle. Must have been an awesome sight. Brave crewmen - all of them. And all volunteers. Some did not survive, but Doolittle did and later became General. Real heroes.

Awesome. Thanks for not ruining it with background music or talk.

The Aviation College I went to had a B-25 across the RWY. Many of us..including myself...would walk around it in reverence and marvel.
Knowing that most of its WWII Pilots were younger than most of the College's Aviation Cadets. (1981)

My Uncle was crew chief on one of these in North Africa in WWII. My brother & I were fortunate to snag a flight in a Collings Foundation example in 2019 - magical!

My father was a crew chief also on B-17s, and Liberators etc in Brazil for 3 years during WWII. He said it was a lot of work they'd work till 3 am . He would be 104 if he was still living.

Both engines spin the same direction? I thought in two engine planes the idea was to spin them counter to each other to balance out the torque, no?

They're counter-rotating. Watch the 2nd engine fire up, and you'll see it spin up counter to the first. Later, it looks like it is not counter-rotating because the rpms are exceeding the framerate of the camera.

@@Cybersawz To the best of my knowledge, B-25s do not have counter rotating props. It's an illusion due to the camera. From the viewer's perspective of this video, both props rotate counter clockwise as the engines are started. (BTW, the P-38 does have counter rotating props.) I've been for a ride in a B-25J some years ago. It was a blast!

The props are counter rotating. It's a shortcoming of the camera.
