Art Rooney gets choked up during interview after the Steelers win their 3rd Superbowl championship. Superbowl 13, Orange Bowl (Miami, FL) on January 21, 1979.
The thing is, he gave a speech which other owners should emulate after a win; thanked those who made the win happen, excluded himself, and then let the coaches and the players be on tv to celebrate. First class, Chief.
Mind blowing game. There have been some great Super Bowls, but this was the best, considering the volatile game and explosive nature due to the players and new rules, the fact that these is still the two best teams to play in a SB, and the number of HOF players/coaches on the two teams that were both at the peaks. Throw in the dislike between the teams and it was basically Ali-Frazier. Most don't understand that Bradshaw is a top all-time QB and should watch SB 13 on the tube. He gets shortchanged because of the Steelers defence, but he was as good for these two years as anyone who played the game. Staubach also great and doesn't get quite the credit he should because of the Steelers' losses.
@@scottdavidson7001The Steelers were 10-0 at home (Including Playoffs) in 1979. But, they were 5-4 on the road (Including Super Bowl 14 win). The Steelers lost to the Bengals, 34-10, in which the Steelers committed 9 turnovers that game. The Steelers also lost to the Chargers, 35-7, in which Terry Bradshaw threw 5 INTs. The Steelers beat Cleveland both times in '79. But, the Steel Curtain defense gave 65 points total in both meetings (35 in the 1st game, 30 in the 2nd game). They had to come from behind to beat the Cardinals early in the season. So, the Steelers were able to win Super Bowl 14 despite these setbacks. It would have been interesting to see the Steelers take on the Chargers in the '79 AFC Championship Game if the Oilers hadn't upset the Chargers in the divisional round.
They were definitely at the peak of their winning arch… that 1978 team is probably the best … but they were in control in 1979… that group of players was incredible! And the coach was pretty decent too! 😉
@xSoccerxCorex: They did. The 1979-80 Rams were probably one of the weaker teams to ever reach the Super Bowl and the Steelers even by that time were starting to show wear and tear and age. I'm more just speaking in hindsight obviously. The 1978 Steelers were the top team of the 1970's (with that Dallas team probably being second) and this game was one for the ages.
I was all of 8 years old when this game was played. I remember watching at my grandfather's house at the beginning of '79. This game could have gone either way, if it were not for the missed opportunities and turnovers by the Cowboys...but mistakes and turnovers are what usually make or brake a team in a matchup as good as this one was.
A Humble Coach and Dynasty NFL Team with Class even after winning 3 Super Bowl Championship Games. A lesson value many of the arrogant snotty asshole puke NFL Dynasty Period Teams that came in the decades after this Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Championship Dynasty Team could learn from.

R.I.P. Art Rooney & Chuck Noll. Chuck and 1978 Steelers greatest coach and team ever.

Chuck Noll you are the best.
What a class act of a man and the whole family has stayed the course, even up to 2021.
Gotta disagree with Coach Noll on that one. The Steelers were at their absolute peak during that game, arguably the best Super Bowl ever played.
zyxwut321 i agree. 79 team was not as good. 79 team had 52 turnovers...go look it up.

r.i.p coach noll
Like father like son, Art calling for his son Dan to come up and pass the trophy off to him, just as Dan did with Art in 08
Hail the Chief.
Look at all the fans on the field running around after game celebrating the Steelers Super Bowl 13 win, you would never see that nowadays.

Likewise agree with you fellows...and I'm a Bengals fan

@zyxwut321 always felt he was referring to the fact they had one more title in them, which they would go on to beat the Rams for the next year
@zyxwut321 no doubt about that! and that's coming from a Bears fan
Did you know Mike Adamle tried to broadcast pro wrestling? He sucked big time
Class Act those two men are.
