    The answer to the qst question is very time consuming. Instead, we can just say that vertex is the lowest point in a parabola and all other points will have greater value of f(x). Therefore, the answer is -12. Also, it may help in some other question, but you can say a+b+c=f(1)

    Took the DSAT today and the last question was similar to your first question in the video. In the test, the question gave the roots to the function and asked for the sum a + b. For anyone wanting to try out the question the coordenates given were (12,0) and (-6,0) and a > 1. Answer is -10

    • @jayshoney3045

    • @user-cp9zs1tr5j
      @user-cp9zs1tr5j Před 9 měsíci +25

      @@user-nj5yq1yb6t Hi, I tried to solve this question too, and here is my work process:
      When the roots are (12,0) and (-6,0), and a > 1, we know that the factored form of the quadratic function is:
      y = a(x-12)(x+6)
      When we expand this into the form [ax^2 +bx +c], it is:
      y = a(x^2 -6x-72) --> y = ax^2 -6ax -72a
      Now here, I am assuming that the question asked for the SMALLEST value of (a+b). Then we can assume that the value of 'a' is 2 (since the smallest value that satisfies a>1 is 2).
      a = a = 2
      b = -6a = -6*2 = -12
      Finally, the values of a+b would be:
      2+(-12) = -10
      Therefore, the answer is -10.
      Sorry if my explanation isn't that great. I hope it made sense!

    All these questions have simpler and logic way to figure out the solutions efficiently and accurately. The first step is not to calculate but to analyze. For example, the 2nd question, since you've gotten kj=-45, so j=-45/k; and the question said that j is an integer so -45/k is an integer, then 45/k is also an integer.

    answer this please , a circle with Centre, C= (h,k) contains point A,B A=(h+1,K+ sq root of 138) and angle ACB is a right angle. find length of arc AB.

    • @nathancalida8323
      @nathancalida8323 Před 8 měsíci

      Angle ACB is a right angle ,that means the distance(arc) length of AB is equal to 1/4 of the circle which is (pi X r)/2
      radius = distance b/n a and c
      R^2 = (h+1-h)2 + (k+sqrt 138-k)2
      R^2= 1^2 + 138
      R^2 = 1 + 138
      R= sqrt 139
      Arc ab= (pi X sqrt 139)/2

      We can estimate where the vertex is, and the question says that there are two solutions. Therefore, we know that the graph must open upwards in order to meet and intersect the x-axis. After expanding vertex form, we can simplify and find the equation for a. The minimum value of a must be 0.0000000001 ( or higher than 1), there it is impossible to attain any other value for the answer.

      first response is correct, but in simpler terms, it's because 14 subtracted from any positive number will equal a number greater than -14. Answer choices A and B are both less than -14, so they can't be correct. Answer choice C is -14, which is also incorrect because -14 is not greater than -14. Therefore D is the only possible answer.

    wait but if k and j could be 9,5,15,3,45,1 then technically b could be 4, -4, 12, -12, 44 or -44. All of these could be divided by 4 tho.

      right, but b could also be 5,6,7, etc.

      not really. Im taking a-level maths currently in my senior year, and yes I do agree a-level maths is way way more advanced, the exam questions are rarely tricky. Id say just study the syllabus and you'll do great. Sat on the other hand, questions are often tricky, and it feels like I must know the strategies for each type of question.

    In the second question, it was rather easy to calculate b. b=hjk=4*(-45) Which makes option A the correct choice too.
    So if 2 options seem equally right, will I be given the marks if i choose option A?

    • @BeckBond
      @BeckBond Před 11 měsíci +3

      isn't it b = hj + k tho? cuz it's hx^2+hjx+kx+kj but hjx+kx doesn't equal hjkx, right? Unless I'm wrong, answer A might be founded upon this mistake.
      Remember that's there's only ever one right answer to a problem; if another looks correct, something is whack.

    • @zubairhossain2003

      The parabola opens upwards. That's why the value of a had to be positive

    • @hasmiknakhikyan8408
      @hasmiknakhikyan8408 Před 11 měsíci

      The parabola intersects x-axis at 2 points,also it is given that the vertex of that parabola is (9,-14) , so if you draw it on xy-plane it is clear that a should be positive.

    • @SummitMTB
      @SummitMTB Před 11 měsíci +1

      The parabola has a vertex positioned under the x-axis so if the it opened upward it would intersect the x-axis ( which it did ) and if opens down then it wouldn't intersect at all - just because the vertex is underneath the x-axis
