Friction fire with the TOPS Fieldcraft Knife

In this video I am using the Top's Knives Fieldcraft to attempt a Friction Fire. I got the ember and there was very little friction between the spindle and handle. I have used this knife several times out in the field and it has always served me well. - Sport

Like a boss even wearing the red wings jersey! The jersey brings back so many childhood memories. I have the tops fieldcraft too great knife.
Got that knife and now nostalgic memories of being a red wings fan in southern indiana where basically nobody knew what hockey even was🙂 i was so picked on but jokes on them since now ive got this awesome tops knife.

@@MelissaBackwoods I got my b.o.b. a year or so ago but consented so much on hand drill I kinda neglected that feature on the knife. NW primate really takes friction fire to another level. Check him out if you haven't already.

That's a nice feature on a knife! Finding a decent tool to use to put pressure on the spindle is always time consuming … I'm going to have to carve out a new handle for one of my bowies this winter :))

a dead bic lighter can start a fire using its spark and cotten shaved off cotten Sox I keep birch bark near for a quick ignition birch bark also makes a resin best insect repellant in the world I have not learned how to make it yet I know it involves a can and burning birch bark under ground natives told me about it a friend is going to teach me this weekend it's not toxic to us or animals
Have you tried making a pump drill yet to start an ember I enjoy it
It might look simple for the viewers but it's actually very hard to make fire form bow drill

I was watching tv and i saw you were from fenton michigan i live there too and have allways wanted to learn survival skills i been watching naked and afraid for many years and to see a survival specialist literally in my city blew my mind i am a freshman in linden high school ( go eagles) and love what you do mabie if you can reach out to me and tell me more about what you do as a educator

Escaping The Mirror haha yes, very busy! I have been working for Blade Magazine and traveling in my camper van. I actually have a lot of footage I could edit but haven’t had the time. I don't want to sound like a dad, but, you should keep the sheath on the blade while doing that so you don't cut yourself (again)
Are you into climbing/gymnastics? In many of yer videos yer hands look chalked up. If yer live by or are close too the coast try limpet shells for the bearing block. you'll need 3 to stop heat transfer or 2 with a green leaf between them.

I thought the spindle had to be harder wood than the board. You proved otherwise.
Brian Outdoors & Truth it does not! I was surprised on how well cedar worked on cedar. The only problem is that you go through spindles relatively quick
So you just made a pretty good video and all some jerks can talk about is some show where you were all natural. Didn't that just tear the heck out of your feet? Thanks for the video.
James Shannon hahah thank you buddy! Some folks don’t understand the concept and why the show is done that way, but I’d sure love to see them try it themselves, then they might understand how hard it makes the challenge and why that is a part of the concept.
And yes it destroyed my body for a good while! Lots of infected bug bite and thorns in the feet!

I never understood why using a knife handle that way is a good idea. Look how close the blade is to your leg! One slip and you can gouge or slash a deep cut in your leg. Make one don't use the knife for pete's sake.
