Jeff Buckley's beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". May it soothe your hearts as it has mine.
In loving memory:

And everyone else we care about and love so dearly and deeply, who has ascended into higher dimensions.
~Rest in peace~
"Every breathe we drew was, 'Hallelujah'".
And love to anybody else who left this Earth before their time.
From the words of the AVATAR KALKI himself:
THIS VIDEO HAS NO RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION. NEITHER DOES THE SONG. A SONG CANNOT HAVE AN AFFILIATION TO A RELIGION - PEOPLE DO. THE SONG IS NEUTRAL-. IT MEANS WHATEVER -YOU CHOOSE TO LABEL IT AS IN YOUR OWN MIND... BUT DO NOT BULLY OTHERS JUST BECAUSE THEY MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE AS YOU...".
I will NOT stand for RACISM, RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE, BIGOTRY, OR ANY OTHER DISCRIMINATION THAT TEARS AWAY AT THE FABRIC THAT IS OUR HUMANITY!
Including the discriminators. They're people too. BUT BAD PEOPLE.

This is, without question, the best version of this song ever recorded.
Agreed
I completely agree dear friend. Jeff Buckley had an amazing voice
Ditto. He left us a masterpiece!
Cannot beat Cohen's live version when he was old. Pure poetry. Way deeper than just a typical musical/vocal cover. Cohen's is so raw and pure and honest.
Between Cohen's version and Buckley's🤷🏻♂️🤔 They should Not be regarded nor compared opposed to each other.... (just my opinion)
Different intonations and sound frequency of the human voice physiological impact us in targeted areas of the body.... The extreme to this representation can be unlocked in military intelligence and sound warfare...
So frankly kiss my Tourettes ass if each of the two versions simply will strike our souls and hearts differently....
Really shouldn't be an argument upon this 🤷🏻♂️
There a reason and they both are just incredible....
Cohen's voice has equal magical properties to Buckley's....
They both hark the Angel's Choirs 🤘
Jeff Buckley owns this song in the same way that Jimi Hendrix owns All Along The Watchtower. Hallelujah, originally written by Leonard Cohen, was an obscure song, which was covered by John Cale and released on the Cohen tribute album, I’m Your Fan. This was Jeff’s favourite version, and he based his rendition on the Cale arrangement. Jeff recorded his version and released it on him album, Grace, in 1994. It would take years before the public caught on. Hallelujah had faded into obscurity, and was largely brought to public attention in 2008, I believe, when an American Idol contestant covered it, to which Simon Cowell mentioned that Jeff’s version was one of his favourite songs of all time. Over night, Jeff’s version of Hallelujah skyrocketed to #1 on iTunes, and exploded into the stratosphere. It is because of Jeff’s version that Halleujah has become the most covered song in popular music history. Without Jeff’s contribution, it likely would have disappeared into oblivion.
Have you had a chance to read some of Manager Dave Lory's book on Jeff Buckley. Curious what your thoughts are now. The book really puts an inside look as to Jeffs mind at the time of this tragedy.
I know what you speak of brother
Cannot beat Cohen's live version when he was old. Pure poetry. Way deeper than just a typical musical/vocal cover. Cohen's is so raw and pure and honest.
Raw and pure and honest are interesting ways of describing someone almost physically incapable of singing, he could never even come close to Buckley
The omnipresent MojoPin1983 spouting all the facts and info. You are a treasure to his memory.
Just as Johnny Cash owned Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, just as Whitney Houston owned I Will Always Love You by Dolly Party, Just as Faith No More owned Easy by the Commodores, Jeff Buckley fully and completely owns this song.
Sometimes a cover is just so good, and done with so much meaning, talent and emotion, it transfers hands.
This is one of those cases.
I believe even Leonard Cohen stated that Buckley's version of the song was his favorite. He even went so far as to say "I may have written the lyrics, but it's Jeff Buckley's song".
It has to be said that Cohen was a compete sweetheart, so it's not surprising.
I think Cash's narrative is better, but I think Nine Inch Nails' is a better sound and rawness. Also, you cannot beat Cohen's live version when he was old. Pure poetry. Way deeper than just a typical musical/vocal cover. Cohen's is so raw and pure and honest.
Cash didn't own Hurt on the same way considering how good the original also was
Except… Dolly’s version always was, and always has been better than Whitney’s. Dolly’s version had feeling… Whitney’s was a vocal exercise and ‘look at me’. 😉
Whitney certainly does not own that song and never could. Dollies version has so much more guts.
SO GLAD SOMEONE DID THIS VERSION!! It's by far the best version of the song.
Man his voice hits my soul every time especially this song.
Jeff was a true hidden gem, makes me wish for more of him. It's just so sad man.
This stopped me in my tracks first time I heard it. Don't know where he got the breath for the end.
My friends call me stupid because I’ve been listening to this version nonstop, on repeat 😌😌
Fellow Stupid here.
Gets me misty eyed every damned time
Buckley and his heart. We all need to make sure new generations listen to him.
My favorite version of this song.
What a talent.
The way that extended note just washes over you at the end of the song. Ooh. Chills
And the soft roundness of that tone is astonishing. Like listening to a silver flute.
Jeff is a legend. I recommand Grace, Lilac Wine, So real and Vancouver
Was.. A legend...
I recommend all his songs.
@@oreally8605 nah. He still is! Even if he isn’t here physically. 💜
Oh God...Vancouver...
Jeff Buckley's exceptional vocal mastery is very nearly matched by his guitar skills. His tone is so clean and crystal clear and his sense of timing and rhythm is impeccable.
He was arguably a better guitarist than singer, and that’s saying a lot. Pure wizard on guitar.
The best version ever.
It's like Leonard Cohen wrote it for him without even knowing...
Dude could hold a note, no? Just like his dad, Tim Buckley...REST IN PEACE, GENTLEMEN
I recommend Jeff's father Tim Buckley a legend in his own right.
I’ve loved this ever since I first heard it in the West Wing.
I like the music video version there's subtle differences and just more raw.
According to his manager Dave Lory, Jeff had been acting "erratic" for 2 weeks before his death. He was trying to buy a house that was not for sale, he was trying to buy a car that was not for sale. He applied for a job to be a butterfly keeper at the Memphis zoo. A lot of weird stuff that was uncharacteristic of him, another weird thing was that he went swimming in the Mississippi river at night, fully clothed. His manager, his girlfriend and even his bandmates said they believe it was no accident. No one will ever know for sure, but everyone close to him believes it was no accident !
Wait they think he committed suicide why would he do that ?!
Jeff Buckley The Best Song Sang Nobody Owns This Song As He Does 💙💙💙

Myles Kennedy does an amazing rendition of this song. Myles also performed this song live while playing Jeff Buckley's guitar! It's freakin phenomenal! You guys should check it out! Awesome reaction as always!

That is fantastic stuff right there!
Great commentary on it ma lady. Tank top guy….. I like your comments too. 😂 thanks guys
my favorite song on my birthday, I love you guys
If you can find the video of his live performance of Dido's Lament, it is just utterly unearthly, and right at the end you can hear Elvis Costello (the curator) say “As one of the vocalists performing this evening, I can tell you that none of us want to sing next.”
A masterpiece of a song
Still remember like it was yesterday when I heard the news he drowned...May 97’ ....what a talent
Me too.....that hurt.
Another great Leonard Cohen cover is by Rufus Wainwright - Chelsea Hotel
I recommend you also listen to his Grace album especially Lover You Should Have Come Over and Last Goodbye.
Heartbreaking Killer lyrics.
It's too bad they couldn't show us the video. They didn't mention it, But maybe they are getting to watch the video of it. Beautiful cover, Is the best cover ever in my opinion.
You guys really need to listen to Corpus Christi Carol
Jeff did it best.
Dozy twonk got pissed and fell in the Laffey. Miss you mate, you still owe me twenty quid!
The right song, the right singer, AND classic tube amplifiers" you put the three together you end up getting, incredible magic to some it actually sounds a bit spiritual ...absolutely incredible.
Should be the only version ever it should be made illegal for anyone to cover it at all
Try not to cry challenge? 🥲🙂

Drowned at 27 in Memphis Harbor. Meanwhile Lady Gaga continues to exist.
Wait until after the song to have an opinion. I understand how I'm hypocritical.
I think there's a better version of this going around from Buckley
the man interrupting the videos sits and nods in every video like it is a metal video, i know more metal than he does, he doesnt care about any artist known to man and he has an iq of a seagull. breeeeeeeeeh! savour something please.
R.I.P. Jeff Buckley Please. Please . people, suicide is not the answer
Are you implying that Jeff committed suicide? That is highly unlikely, if one is informed regarding his state of mind, at the time of his death, and his excitement to join his band (who had flown into Memphis from New York City, and were literally being picked up at the airport by Jeff’s manager, at that moment). They were planning to go into the studio, the very next day, to resume work on the follow up to Grace. Jeff was pumped to get back to work, as he had finally gotten his new songs to a place where he was ready to record them with a full band.
@@MojoPin1983 According to his manager Dave Lory, Jeff had been acting "erratic" for 2 weeks before his death. @@eddie56120032003 Strange behaviour, such as that which you mentioned, doesn’t logically imply that his death was due to suicide. There’s no correlation between those events. Jeff had a tendency to be reckless, and his odd behaviour could have been a result of biopolar disorder, which Jeff suspects that he had.
Jeff had been swimming in the Wolf River, several times, prior to his drowning. This wasn’t a one off event, but something that he had done, multiple times before.
Lastly, I think you have misterpreted Jeff’s manager, girlfriend, and bandmates. I’ve never read anything from them stating that they thought it was no accident. At most, some of them have said they don’t know, but none have said that they think Jeff committed suicide. I could write a much more thorough explanation expressing why I think it was an accidental drowning, but I don’t feel like putting in the effort, at the moment, as there is a lot of backstory to cover. Perhaps another time.
@@MojoPin1983 I agree, we will never know. All my info is from the book his manager wrote after his death. Check it out, see what you think.
Either way a troubled soul. We lost a good one
You hear Jeff Buckley like you hear rap or metal; this is a non-sens.
