Darius, the guide of Atlanta

- Fourth and final season of Atlanta is rolling, here's a little tribute to my favorite character and what he brings to, as Donald Glover says, "the best show since the Sopranos". Wanted to give Lakeith Stanfield his flowers before the show comes to pass. Like a few other essays on here, Lakeith and Darius capture that messy absurdism, optimistic nihilism combo I love in art perfectly. And more than that I wanted to show how his character actually serves as a way to ground the audience and the show when it veers in and out of surrealism by giving a baseline of weirdness. Shoutout Darius, excited to see how this story ends.

Dang, imagine a conversation between Darius and Abed. 6th senses and 4th walls would implode.
hahah donald couldn't be around them both at the same time, they'd be too powerful together. that's why he's finally able to do the community movie now that atlanta's ending
@Dan Fisher duuuuuude they’d be too powerful for this world
lmaooooo u read my fuckin mind
@@NicheNonsense Eeeeee, I didn't know this was in the works! FINALLY!!
The scene where Darius call Earn out for “extreme pettiness or terrorism” was somehow the most grounding line, for me.
Hmm?
That was the perfect response to Earn's crazy plot!
@@ChococatSoftPaws if you havent watched s4, theres an episode where Earn is inconvenienced by a racist TSA agent at the airport so he orchestrates an unhinged getback against them. I wont say too much else but those are the broadstrokes.
i watched it but can u explain this for me pls
@@orangeappelsif I remember correctly he switches a gun in his bag into a rival rappers bag at the TSA and he says it’s either extremely petty or earns a terrorist
Low key; he was the main character in the show. It’s like the finale brings it all together.
'they accept the absurdity of their world and represent what comes after acceptance.
It's the old man who knows why we dance. Living with a dose of optimistic nihilism. The old nothing matters, but with a smile. So all that matters is what you do from here.'
That's a gem, right there at 3:01
i absolutely agree, i knew i have to subscribe
I saw a theory that really made sense to me on TikTok that Atlanta is a simulation and earn is actively being pushed to realize it and break out, hence why we see so many surreal scenarios like when earn and van were stuck in a loop. Darius is aware of the stimulation and mostly plays the role of keeping earn from realizing which is why he seemingly just happens to show up at weird times with even earn questioning where he came from. Think you should definitely look into it!
wow i haven’t heard this one befriended your comment! i love it so much i think it’s a perfect notion to dwell on, there might even be truth to it
Looks like you weren't too off.
@@shayk4791 How so?
"Atlanta's tripsitter" is the absolute perfect summary of Darius' role in the show.
easily the most important show of the last decade
Darius made the show for me.
never know what you're gonna get but you know it's gonna be fun to watch
@@NicheNonsense absolutely, when he said “Wow….your hairline is intense” I think I laughed for 30 minutes.
@@10jinroh 🤣 For real! The way he can deliver a line... he and Brian Tyree Henry make the show for me.
@@10jinroh literally knocked me down laughing he’s just a piece of work, and lakeith’s delivery is fantastic
@@raghadthewinner Sooooo true, he’s amazing.
Darius and Alfred are two of my favorite tv characters ever and they're both in the same show! Thats so rare and amazing
ahhhh feel so damn validated with what I was trying to say here! Had to double check I'm not still under after that finale but it's a thicc-free Judy on my TV. Darius cements his spot on my character all-timers list. Gonna miss this show
No clue how this got recommended to me but I enjoyed it, good work.
algorithm works in mysterious ways. appreciate you, thanks for watching!
@@NicheNonsense I would say nice to meet you, but I don't believe in time as a concept, so... I'll just say we always met.
Also, you earn yourself a subscriber 😉
Darius has been my favorite character since the very first episode. As soon as he opened his mouth, I was hooked.
from the start Darius has been my favorite character
He’s literally an amazing character
i've combed the internet my entire adult life looking for the worst comment i could come across. i've various forms of racism, sexism, and enough prejudice to fill two black holes. at long last, i've finally found you. this is the worst formed comment in the history of youtube. you should be proud.
Darius is the spirit animal personality Alot of us wish we could present where we live(wherever that is). I wish I could be that comfortable...with myself.
It's all Darius's dream.... That's why he's the guide...
Wow you called this early👍🏾
This was great, should have way more views
appreciate you, thanks for watching!
Bro not sure you even knew how spot on you were til after the finale. Well done.
Here after the finale.
Darius is by far one of my favorite television characters of all time! Since season 1. I just love how the series ended with him being the hero and bringing everyone together. The writing and acting on this show are genius.
Just got up from watching the series finale. The first thing that came to mind was this video of yours. Ah, guess it was all a dream...
Comparing Darius to Abed is genius. How did I never connect the two before?
I am so glad YT recommended this to me, I was wondering about Atlanta and if someone would of done a video essay on Darius, such a interesting character! Cheers man!
Just saw the series finale, and this makes even more sense now
I loved this and lakeith he does the grounding job. He’s the hand we hold on the scary ride❤
I literally came here again after the finale because the whole time i was watching, I couldn’t help but think back to what you said in the video
This was a great insight, really rationalised how I relate and see Darius. Keep up the amazing work man! Subbed 🌟
after watching your Dijon and Remi Wolf videos, this is the one that made me realize I HAD to sub. multiple common interests but also these are the short and concise types of video essays that are super digestible and I love watching. Also, I'm praying for a stand-alone Darius episode this season. Don't know if they'll be able to top Teddy Perkins, but I know it'll be a great episode regardless. anyways, thanks for making videos!
genuinely appreciate this! thanks for taking the time to watch my vids and for the sub, it means a lot. there was a darius and earn side quest again last week, so we're getting closer to another stand-alone!
This hits different after the series finale
First off, your voice is so smooth and soothing. Secondly, I love this video. It makes perfect sense, especially after watching the season finale.
Haha, he has the perfect "video essay" voice
I fr thought had at least 100k subs, I thought u were one of those volkgeist type channel with thousands of subscribers, u def deserves more recognition.
Just subscribed, keep it up!
atlanta is one of my favorite pieces of media to ever exist if not my number one, i guess darius had become my favorite character without me realising, he is very different from all the other characters, his acceptence and will to absorp the environment and the absence of his fear to lose control is what attracted me most to him.
He’s the neutral observer, thus he grounds and guides us through the show.
a lot of the characters in the show operate as a computer does, they receive information, process it through their emotions and views, and then react to it or tell it to the viewers from their own perspective, but since darius gives in to a lot of the “strange” things that he faces in the show, he’s kinda the most neutral person there that gives space for the strange event to exist and evoke emotions both in himself and the viewer. It shows a lot in his indifference and chill personality.
This an absolutely insane video i had to subscribe immediately! keep the great work up.
That's a brilliant analysis of his relationship to the world
darius a vibe, i strive to be like him
Love the intro such a cool intro and way to see Darius!! Love the video dude
Brah im feeling you're about to blow up and it's really cool to be here in such a early stage of your YT career.
Similar to kaptainkristian with a personal, unique touch, make your content incredible to watch.
Hope you get to talk about other medium soon, like podcast, anime, manga, BD, etc...
It will be a pleasure to see your rise!
appreciate you dude! trying to put quality first and let the audience follow. trying to make things i'd want to watch myself. music, photography, film & TV, podcast, etc.- if it's culture I like, it's on the table
Find your inner Darius.
I haven't watched this show before. I love Lakeith Stanfield. I first saw him in Haunted Mansion. I need to work on watching this.
A friend told me once that Darius and me were so much alike... I was very touched by that! 😆 Kinda like when a friend said I was basically "The Dude" Lebowski, irl.
Hahahaha dude!! You're getting an upvote from me!!!
Beautiful editing and choices for scenes to include
I think Darius embodies a true Atlantian. If you really grew up and experienced the city you’ve felt the same kind of absurdity im sure.
Think we’ll get another teddy perkins style Darius bottle episode for the final season?
Hope so, I got a feelin theres gonna be a massive twist within Darius but I dunno what
It wouldn't be right, otherwise... he hasn't been in the last season enough so far.
Great video, btw!
Darius was my favorite character from the start. Might even be my favorite character of all time in a tv show.
Amazing character. Awesome video. I really like this.
THIS IS A AWESOME VIDEO BRO KEEP IT UP!
Can you even watch this show without falling in Love with Darius? I don't think so
Subbed off the channel name alone 😂
Called it better than anyone. We know what the ending means now because of this.
I'm so curious what your thoughts are on the finale. The show characterized him in a way I don't think they had done before, and I don't know what to make of it all. I'm sad that it's over, but I thought this season was beautiful and left a warm, endearing feeling to end on.
Favorite episode when Earn told me he needed money and sold the bulldogs😂. IYKYK
We should all aim to be more like Darius👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love Darius, that man is out of this world #YetInIt
Everyone needs a darius😊
Everyone is a Darius 😎
dijon, lakeith, and so much more, you have great taste man your videos are the only ones i feel like actually match my taste sometimes.
Do you have a letterboxd acc where you rank and rate things ? i would love to see reccs from you lol haha
keep up the great work man !!!
Where that dog with the Texas on him?
Darius is one of my most favourite fictional characters.
What’s that ending tune? It calmed me deeply.
Great conversation and video homie :D
He changed so much after Get Out hahaha that they adapted it into the show (2017 then 2018)
I was doing my own wandering today and wondered who I might me among the cast of Atlanta. While I see parts of myself in Earn, Al, and Van, I am most like Darius. I'm very curious. I role with new and interesting situations. I try different ways to approach life.
Except I'm not a nihilist, and therefore I don't think Darius is either. I think that, like myself, he's present. He lives in the moment. The past and present are ever-present. But you can't escape living in the moment.
i love this
what are your thoughts after that finale?!?!?!
AMAZING VIDEO GAHDAMN!
Killed this
Soooo... Am I the only one that thinks Atlanta is a simulation ?
Darius is Neo, confirmed
It’s funny because he’s the sane one doing chaos
my favorite character!
Is it too far fetch to consider Darrius as God in a physical form guiding Earn and Al through their simulations?
it's not beyond the realm of Atlanta's surrealism. we can allow that theory
Nice
Here's to you getting more subs and views bro!
Need an update video now that shows over
SPOILERS
I feel at the end he's kinda lost it. Not sure if there will be a Season 5 but damn that last episodes felt more unhinged because I feel he might be stuck.
He like the Jubo Tapaki but he's not aware of this
OK fam you win, how you got less than 1000 subs with this content?
