  • Detroit Red Wings players Patrick Kane, James Reimer and Alex DeBrincat, as well as coach Derek Lalonde, talk after the Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in overtime on February 25, 2024.
Kane celebrated his return to the United Center by helping his new Red Wings teammates celebrate a fifth straight victory.
The Blackhawks' jersey retirement ceremony for Chris Chelios and the welcome-back tribute to Kane were memorable moments Sunday, but the best part for the Wings was when Kane snapped a shot in overtime past goalie Petr Mrazek to best Chicago, 3-2.
"It was an awesome ending," fellow former Blackhawk Alex DeBrincat said after setting up Kane's goal. "For him to score that here, the fans were loving it, and to go home with two points is huge for us.
"I don’t think you could have scripted it better. It’s nice to see him enjoying his celebration."

I LOVE Kaner and Cat. I’m so damn happy as a Wings fan rn. The sauce is back in the D. Let’s go Wings baby!

It was an extremely emotional night for this Hawks fan. Kane ending it in OT was the perfect ending, especially with the UC crowd cheering him and Cat. I will always love the Hawks, Kane and Cat and I wish them much success in Detroit. The NHL needs teams like the Hawks and Red Wings to be near the top of the league - it feels wrong otherwise.

    Happy for Kaner 👍
Playing up to his ability after his surgery. Hope he can pull more years out of it. Nice to see the Wings on the winning side again

So happy for Kaner. I was at the game and the whole arena cheered when kane scored the last goal. As a hawks fan we could not have came up with a better outcome for his return (a bedard OT goal would have been cool too 🤷🏼‍♂️ but kane deserves it more lets be real). Love that hes doing well

I think Kane size has been the wild card on why he look like he never had the surgery...he's tiny which helps.
That and Chicago giving up on him Rangers fans saying he was finished have driven him.

it's his size, that he doesn't play a physical or constantly fast skating style, and that he never had anything before done on the hip surgically. that and his strong work ethic and routine. we'll see how long he can go, personally i think from what he's said and what i've seen he can still get stronger in the lower body and faster/more explosive post-surgery, w more rehab. he is still great but he is still not where he could be.

There was something about that Breakaway that stinks first off how was he able to cherry-pick on a 3:03 and basically stand at the blue line by himself? And why did the goalie look like he made a early move on the puck to leave a net wide open and lastly watch how Patrick Kane pushes away Jake Walman so he can celebrate to make it all about him there was something about the ending to me that I did not like it's just too damn scripted

Are you even in reality? Probably not based on your name.

Poor you. I am glad I can just feel the emotions when things like this happen, and I was just so damn happy for Kaner. He deserved this ending.

Watch more hockey. What kane did is common during 3v3 when there is an odd man rush against. The late isnt going to do anything. As for mrazek reacting early, its a habit of his. Same with the weird dcat goal.

lmao if it was scripted, Walman getting in his way definitely would not have been in the script. and it WAS all about him, he didn't make it all about him. this was Kane's game all the way.

Reimer was great, it wasn't his best game but he had a tremendous saves and he was definitely in control! That's all that matters. We will be ready-made Tuesday @lgrw 🏒
