You are lucky if you find a job paying $50k in Austin. Sales tax is 8.25. Utilities in winter is more like $150, but in summer, $300-450 isn't a surprise. Rent for a 1bdr or efficiency is around $1400 & for a 3br 2 bth, don't be surprised to either live 25 mi outside of town for $2k or pay $3200/mo in town. Homeless populations are skyrocketing as landlords crank up the prices every year. And many homeless people livingnin their car are working at the jobs starting at $12-15/hr because there is no where to rent for $1000.

And so what? Do you enjoy roads? Bridges? Emergency services? Schooling for your kids? If people only got as upset over things like "resort fees" in Vegas or paying $3 for thirty cents worth of two liters of sugar water or the price of streaming services. Taxes are what keeps trucks delivering food, taxes are what keeps your neighborhood from burning down, taxes are what keeps foods and medicines safe, taxes are what keeps water flowing into your home and sewers to take it away. Cry away.
