The u-joint-splined-shaft connection at the rack looks correct now. If the securing bolt went through, it "found" the groove (the smooth section, as you called it). Just make sure that bolt is torqued to spec.

Bolt looks good now , probably just dropped into the gap where it should be , try tightening again now its moved just incase its come loose.
